Elliot_fpv since the beginning my concept was not to bullshit around and waste time. not all of my videos stick to this because it takes more effort to cut out the crap but I still try. I wish TV shows didn't have intros either. especially game of thrones like 5min intro. show me more dragons for 5min plz.
DumbThumbsFPV GOT latest season was actually really surprisingly good. the first two seasons were good and this latest one. the others was just a whole lotta talking and a dozen story lines that ended up going nowhere. now it's interesting.
A great tutorial to come back twice a year. And every time i can take one more hint with me. Even when watched a couple of times there is still something left to learn. Thank you!
Please do more videos and tutorials like this on how to get more smooth flight and also very nice that you showing the Stick movements on a Footage of a flight, like compare between one way of flying and the second way of flying.
Don't forget to loosen up your springs. It might be a big transition for people coming from the stiff factory setting but you will get used to it quickly and you won't feel those notches when you transition the sticks.
This video is honestly one of the best freestyle tutorials ive seen. I've been flying for a few months and can split-s, power loop, and hit gaps etc., but I have never had that "flow" feel. Thank you so much for this. I have not heard or seen any of these tips explained this way and I can't wait to fly tomorrow and incorporate everything!!!!
You're the first amongst many I watched that explains sophisticated art of flying the way it should be done. I am beginner but whatever You suggested clicked straight away. Kudos for that. Thanks.
I took all of this into consideration while flying earlier and it helped out soo much. still working on the turning transition but its getting there. it helped so much it made me excited to edit it and upload for the first time in about a month. Thanks for all of the great tips and always reminding me to floss :) my dentist is much happier
Thanks mate. The reference to straight flying versus skating is golden. That continuous movement makes it easier to perform moves. Most of my crashes have been from thinking about a move rather than reacting. Will definitely practice that. 👍🏼
This video is EXCELLENT. Really, it's pedagogical, very well explained and the dos and don'ts are easily confirmed in each next piloting video feed. That's pretty rare. I recommend
You're advice has been really helpful. I have been struggling with these exact issues. Been flying fixed-wing with done this for many years .Now I'm trying pinching and just about every one of your tips. Thanks for the info and time.
Great tips Bob, you should do more of these. I don't always agree with your opinions but one thing I've never doubted is your amazing piloting skills. Thanks for taking the time to help us progress.
After watching this I decided to take your words of wisdom to my fpv sim for evaluation and honestly I use to have almost no flow in my acro movements, spending to much time over correcting, and just 5 mins into practicing your tips and now that's already changed! Thanks man, I'll have to send some floss your way ;)
Realize this is a year old, but the cross cooordianted stick input is one of the most mysterious and useful stick inputs to a quad! In the case of transitioning from a skate left to right and vice versa, I call it hunting, I perfer the sharp edge look that a direct simultaneous roll and yaw stick input gives over the method described!
It's my second day with a simulator and some of the things said in this video I got them on my own by just trial and error, I'm still far from having full trajectory control but there are some things I noticed that I have to work on and focus on and they're not easy to learn: 1) gravity is SLOW; messing up with the throttle will really piss you off, you're doing a turn and compensating for the higher pitch because you're learning to tighten the curve and then be right off to skating again, and there you go not lowering the throttle soon enough and shooting up in the air as soon as you adjust your pitch, and it'll feel like forever when you're falling, you can take the chance and practice diving, but it still it feels awful when you're trying to fly level to the ground and you mess up; 2) losing control during turns; you might want to gradually tighten the turn but you either yaw too little or too much, from what I understand yaw never changes the direction of your movement, it just change the way you're pointing and thus your point of reference for the turn, so I turn with roll and pich(like with a plane) and correct with you, point is when you tighten a curve if you yaw too little you roll into the curve and you start moving somewhere you're not looking and have to balance that, or when you yaw too much you roll out of the curve, and that's even worse; 3)sometimes you just can't get the trajectory you want; small corrections are really hard to make, yeah you can get spin around a pole like you want, or pass through a gate, but I'm always risking collision and never doing it fully convinced, I don't crash as much as I think I'm going to but in order to focus on my trajectory I have to turn off my "DON'T CRASH" flying mode in my head, if that makes sense, and it just feels awful to have to feel like you're flying risky when you're making corrections to pass through a gate, and again relating to the first point, falling is so slow, if you punch the throttle too much you can forget about passing through, you'll just pass over it; 4)stop and reverse is really hard; there's this point in the track I'm practicing where I have to pass through a high gate and then fall and turn back and pass under it, whenever I try to reverse I found myself going in the wrong direction and it's pretty much impossible to correct since the second point to pass through is so close, out of the little four hours I got, I managed to try it about 50 times and only got it right 2 out of luck. ***)DON'T USE CAMERA ANGLE COMPENSATION, I don't even know if you could program it into your flight controller but even if you could you shouldn't, I tried it once, it made things "easier" but I feel more in control without it, for the simple reason that if I yaw I don't change direction, at first it might feel practical to do trajectory correction with pure yaw but doing turns feels just wrong.
Good video, my smoothest flight came from flying in a tightish area with trees I was constantly rolling around and through. I couldn't understand why as it was technically the hardest I'd done, but now I see it's because I was constantly rolling to go around one after the other and had no time to recover the centre stick. Cheers, I like these vids.
I’m not sure if you know this but, In HAM radio the older experienced guys who take you under their wing and teach you from their real life experience are called Elmers. You my friend are a quad Elmer. Thanks for your advice
Cool tips! The relax part is key. Alot of my friends who just started flying comment on my ability to not freak out. Not that I'm a great pilot by any stretch but relaxing and thinking ahead of the quad help me a great bit.
BASHERS UNITED yeah. leaning to just roll with it is probably the hardest part. what happens happens. deal with it. it's how I do all my dives into treetops. I can't see what's under at all...
Good tips and well explained. I'm not a pro flier because I build a quad nearly every day so I don't get to practice on the same quad all the time. So your intro hit me and this is why I am replying. Everything else is also bang on thumbs up man :-)
The yaw first for turning... New info! I have been using the opposite direction yaw/roll for horizon level rolls only. Now I have something to practice for a few hours 😁🤘🏽🙏🏽. Thanks for the vids, Kabab!
we overseas are pretty much bound to aliexpress and bangood because of their reasonable shipping prices. Can you please make a video on the quad you would make if you had only these two sites available.
look up "uavfutures 99" and you'll find Stew's 99 dollar banggood quadcopter. be sure to take the upgrades in the description, it will make a difference.
Thank you Brother. In my turn I normally press Yaw and side movements in sequence. Now I am trying to head your advice to do Yaw first and follow within second to side move and it looks smooth in the video.
Oh NO!! All this time has passed, and nobody EVER gave me a heads up about flossing between battery changes! I recon most dentists try to fool you by pretending to give you all the info about caring for your teeth, but I'm slowly learning they are a clandestine group in some ways. It all makes sense now! Repeat visits are their bread and butter. Thanks, Kabab! You are a man among weasels! :-)
Nice video as usual!!! I think while I'm flying that I'm killing it and smooth as silk. Then I watch the hd and I swear it looks like I'm having a damn seizure !!
Q Speed Racer keep at it !! It will all fall in place very soon. I finally achieved being able to fly like I want and do every trick but I still crash and crash hard. I prefer to fly through the trees fast . I haven’t been flying much the last few months kinda got Burnt out but that itch is coming back !!
Thanks for those tips. I feel I can get out of the rut I've been in. Felling like I'm not improving. Going to try all your tips. Keep up the great work.
Great Video very helpful, I noticed something in your comparison section that you did not mention, which adds to your smoothness. You were keeping your throttle basically constant on your smooth flight(right side of screen) and were jerking the throttle on the not so smooth demonstration. I have found that smooth throttle transitions help keep video smooth as well and along the same line as, never return stick to center, I never pull throttle to 0, even while power looping or diviing, this helps transition hard pull outs without oscillations.
Thanks really enjoyed it. I’m just learning Acro on simulator and I have found myself cross coordinating in turns like you show seems more smooth and brings the nose around after the turn. Take care
I just treat the drone like an airplane by always moving both sticks in the opposite direction to the exact same degree for pitching. I don’t know if that’s wrong but it feels very natural and easy because it’s just like an airplane. Speeding up = moving both sticks forward to the same degree Slowing down = both sticks backwards to the same degree
I think the first one is solid advise. I am progressing through quads as I am learning fpv. I notice its hard to jump from quad to quad. As well as from a 3s to a 4s, back and forth etc. I was telling myself a few days ago I need to stick with one quad and battery type and master that.
Sorry I am late comer to this thread. Love your vlog sytle. I found this video very useful. I practice quite often and can see my self going through the stages you discribe. Good for reenforcing good habits. Thanks Dude!
I would like to add a little tip I've been thinking about if you don't mind. We all know it take tons of practice. I believe that confidence in yourself and commitment to every move of the stick will result in smooth flying. Commitment manly..
Tommy Quarles I've wanted to make a video on that but it's kinda fluffy. you gotta commit to the flight. be comfortable with what can and will happen. roll with it. you are moving always. manage it.
Funny you made a video about this. Last time i flew was just doing the things you are saying now and i felt i was flying alot smoother. Keep up the amazing vids dude.
Wow man that is a huge difference and looks very clean im just learning to fly quads ive been flying planes for years but wanted a change and you are so rite you fly just like a plane.its awsome bro.thanks for the tips.
Geek mode high on this video and love it. I came to see how people get smooth cinematic footage and this is not that, but still cool to watch and hear.
Bruh! That thing about flying it like a plane is really interesting... never really payed attention to it but seeing both videos I definitely fly like the left video and the people i look up to in freestyle are very much like the right video! I´ll give that "yaw more" thing a hard look and try to incorporate it into my freestyle flying. Subscribed! Cheers from Argentina!
Haha yeah! You roll but keeping the "nose" following the movement. I´ll give it a try! I´m trying to get into racing a lot more now but the feeling of freestyling and just doing what your mood tells you is just awesome! Thanks man!
i love that you talk about this stuff!..very helpful and inspiring!..if you have seen quadmover a guy on youtube and fly's a impulseRC warp quad!...that kind of style should be explained! because what he does is from another planet and johnnyFPV if thats who your referring to at the begging of the video ..i think thats called "juicy"...i dont know but he is very smooth!..but my point is if you can make a video on the warp quad and that flying style would be magnificent!!..by the way you fly very smooth and tasteful not to flippy and jerky! ...the video on the blade torrent is one of my favorites!..how in the hell do you fly around the palm tree with the camera facing up!!..looks so cool and difficult??
One thing I've done to get rid of that bump or jerk in the center is to reduce my gimbal spring tension right up to the point where you almost loose that centering ability it has, then I back off slightly from that. As a result I barely notice the center of my stick anymore, it will go back if I release it but the tension at the ends is almost the same as the middle. I've found this really helped my smooth flying as I don't even notice going through the center and now when I try someone elses radio with stock spring tension I can barely fly it. It feels like I'm constantly fighting the sticks. Of course its all what you get used to like you said but in the beginning I was having a lot of trouble with consistency of fine movements, doing the hybrid pinch and lowering my gimbal spring tension improved that dramatically and now I'm always telling people to reduce their tension. I think it made a lot of sense for airplanes but less sense for quads. Just my two cents!
Adam Palmer yeah I've used a gimbal that has no real center too. definitely interesting but I need a home position to feel comfortable. I think most people would.
It's just a regular DX6 gimbal. It still has home position, I just loosened the springs as weak as you can go without loosing centering. My sticks come back to the same number on the receiver tab when I let go (give or take 1-2 points of course). Try it! (no one does lol)
Love this video I’ve watched it about 24times lol thanks a lot you’ve helped me big time👊🏾👊🏾 With my lil moby 6 hd ^^^ big yourself up I’d love if you did more of these
Been flying for 4 months. Got ya on controls. But i have 2 quads one is arris clean flight and the other is a wizard frame with complete armattan electronics. F4, 30a dshot600 and some dame fine motors. I call it the wizeleon. Both take a pack to get used to.
Also, I sometimes like seeing the sticks with the move. True, you can’t watch them at the same time, but instead I will rewind a few times and focus on one or the other.
There is brain science that shows that *small* changes are conducive to learning. I think this challenges your advice to stick with the same quad/rates/everything. I am sure, however, that your advice stands if you mean to advise against drastic changes, or if someone is a day-1-beginner. My guess is that "small changes" might mean something like keeping the same rates on three quads and flying them all. If you think about it, we *do* fly "different quads" from the beginning of the battery to the end since we fly with 20% less voltage. Keep up the good work Bab! I always look forward to you, Bardwell, and UAVFutures stuff :)
Matt Jones yeah you can't really keep it always the same. depending on the weather the gyro responds differently too. I really just mean don't go changing your rates and building a new quad too quickly.
Nice tips, I'll have to try some of these. The first one will be tough for me though as I go back and forth from simulator to quad. Unfortunately I don't get much time for "real" flying during a typical week, so I'm still using the simulator for practice. I definitely notice what you're talking about though, typically it takes half a flight or so to adjust to the difference in feel.
Almost 4 years later, this video is still extremely helpful :D
Still now brother ✊😃👍😎
Love this, no intro or anything just straight into the video!
Kabab FPV lol I've never watched game of thrones
Ya,thats like my best show man,,but I know what you mean.
That is EXACTLY why we love the DVR! GOT's intro was cool 7 years ago.. haven't seen it since..
Thank you!
the last part about the yaw transition was the answer to the biggest mystery in my fpv experience! thanks man! cant wait to try these out!
Please do more videos and tutorials like this on how to get more smooth flight and also very nice that you showing the Stick movements on a Footage of a flight, like compare between one way of flying and the second way of flying.
The skating reference is spot on. I came to this reasoning on my own, and it was a big turning point for me in the first 2 weeks of flying.
7 years later... This is the most informative video i've found.
I love beater's 😂 I still use my QX7 on my high dollar quads 😎in 2022 😎
Wow, this actually made it a lot easier to fly. Improved my lap time from 50:26 to 34:58
Don't forget to loosen up your springs. It might be a big transition for people coming from the stiff factory setting but you will get used to it quickly and you won't feel those notches when you transition the sticks.
That last part, this is so simple and basic and yet it had such an immediate effect on the way I fly
Thanks!
I've just informed my dentist I'm moving over to your practice, healthy teeth and good quadcopter advice....perfect 😁
There's a new video that blows the doors off all smooth flying coming up soon
@@Kabab Awesome can't wait! Just discovered your channel and now subbed!
5 years later. Wow. I have been on sim for a while, have first quads coming....who knows when, but this is saved. Thank you!
You're the first amongst many I watched that explains sophisticated art of flying the way it should be done. I am beginner but whatever You suggested clicked straight away. Kudos for that. Thanks.
I aim for that in anything I describe. No wasted time 👌
very cool tips, still being appreciated almost 4 years down the road. Thanks!!!
Years later this is still one of your most valuable videos :)
I took all of this into consideration while flying earlier and it helped out soo much. still working on the turning transition but its getting there. it helped so much it made me excited to edit it and upload for the first time in about a month. Thanks for all of the great tips and always reminding me to floss :) my dentist is much happier
I know this is an old video but I watched it last week and it's already improved the fluidity of my flying. Big thanks!
Thanks mate. The reference to straight flying versus skating is golden. That continuous movement makes it easier to perform moves. Most of my crashes have been from thinking about a move rather than reacting. Will definitely practice that. 👍🏼
Straight to the point, no useless intro. Thanks.
This video is EXCELLENT. Really, it's pedagogical, very well explained and the dos and don'ts are easily confirmed in each next piloting video feed. That's pretty rare. I recommend
My comment looks like a udemy or Uber comment. Sorry about that
😂
You're advice has been really helpful. I have been struggling with these exact issues. Been flying fixed-wing with done this for many years .Now I'm trying pinching and just about every one of your tips. Thanks for the info and time.
Just ONE issue, time. I noticed a lot of pros are single, no family. Awesome video as usual
IceRook I'm hardly pro. I just fly for fun. a new pilot can easily surpass me in skill after just 6mo maybe. but I guess yeah, single. sort of?
I've got two kids and a wife =D. some day my kids will fly with me, until then they stick to the ground =)
Well that's because they don't FLOSS
Andrew Zaborowski fuck off
Great I got a girl ill never be good.. just started yesterday.. lol
Great tips Bob, you should do more of these. I don't always agree with your opinions but one thing I've never doubted is your amazing piloting skills. Thanks for taking the time to help us progress.
Amen. Buying a new guitar every other week isn't going to make you better player.
Wrong, thats how i got better. Never got bored of a guitar
Maybe, but it worth a try.
Changing girlfriend doesn't make you better at sex.
yes it does
After watching this I decided to take your words of wisdom to my fpv sim for evaluation and honestly I use to have almost no flow in my acro movements, spending to much time over correcting, and just 5 mins into practicing your tips and now that's already changed! Thanks man, I'll have to send some floss your way ;)
+Shade Squamous glad to help.
It's my second day with a simulator and some of the things said in this video I got them on my own by just trial and error, I'm still far from having full trajectory control but there are some things I noticed that I have to work on and focus on and they're not easy to learn:
1) gravity is SLOW; messing up with the throttle will really piss you off, you're doing a turn and compensating for the higher pitch because you're learning to tighten the curve and then be right off to skating again, and there you go not lowering the throttle soon enough and shooting up in the air as soon as you adjust your pitch, and it'll feel like forever when you're falling, you can take the chance and practice diving, but it still it feels awful when you're trying to fly level to the ground and you mess up;
2) losing control during turns; you might want to gradually tighten the turn but you either yaw too little or too much, from what I understand yaw never changes the direction of your movement, it just change the way you're pointing and thus your point of reference for the turn, so I turn with roll and pich(like with a plane) and correct with you, point is when you tighten a curve if you yaw too little you roll into the curve and you start moving somewhere you're not looking and have to balance that, or when you yaw too much you roll out of the curve, and that's even worse;
3)sometimes you just can't get the trajectory you want; small corrections are really hard to make, yeah you can get spin around a pole like you want, or pass through a gate, but I'm always risking collision and never doing it fully convinced, I don't crash as much as I think I'm going to but in order to focus on my trajectory I have to turn off my "DON'T CRASH" flying mode in my head, if that makes sense, and it just feels awful to have to feel like you're flying risky when you're making corrections to pass through a gate, and again relating to the first point, falling is so slow, if you punch the throttle too much you can forget about passing through, you'll just pass over it;
4)stop and reverse is really hard; there's this point in the track I'm practicing where I have to pass through a high gate and then fall and turn back and pass under it, whenever I try to reverse I found myself going in the wrong direction and it's pretty much impossible to correct since the second point to pass through is so close, out of the little four hours I got, I managed to try it about 50 times and only got it right 2 out of luck.
Simulators all feel weird to me. Keep it up. You'll definitely get it.

Straight to the good stuff!! Man this spot is so cool!!! The trees look so crazy!!
Thank you. As I'm sitting here having just finished a "Can you analyze FLOW" video, you do it. Appreciated.
Best example of smooth and doing moves while always turning - watch basically any Le Drib flight video. King of smooth. ;)

Your name though lol awesome
Thank you Brother. In my turn I normally press Yaw and side movements in sequence. Now I am trying to head your advice to do Yaw first and follow within second to side move and it looks smooth in the video.

Thanks really enjoyed it. I’m just learning Acro on simulator and I have found myself cross coordinating in turns like you show seems more smooth and brings the nose around after the turn. Take care
This is a great video. You offered a much different perspective than I have seen previously.
Thanks for that - really to the point and no fluff :-) Have too many quads... Will focus flying one until my flying sucks less :-)
Very useful basic tips for a smooth ride. Thanks
very helpful bro, straight to the point too, and split vid examples made it very easy to follow you; good job!!

Yep that's very good advice. I wish I knew that before I bought too many different quads that I can't fly with precise control. 👍😎❗
This explains so much...or at least part of why, my flying sucks so much. Thanks. We'll see if it helps.
Geek mode high on this video and love it. I came to see how people get smooth cinematic footage and this is not that, but still cool to watch and hear.
Thanks for the very good notes about the sticks holding.
just about to head out now rain stopped... gonna try n see... ty for video... and it would be scary to see how good you would be with the time

Haha yeah! You roll but keeping the "nose" following the movement. I´ll give it a try!
I´m trying to get into racing a lot more now but the feeling of freestyling and just doing what your mood tells you is just awesome!
Thanks man!
I have taught people by saying "lead with yaw" or yaw first then turn.
Ur like that quadfriend thats unavailable where I liv
i love that you talk about this stuff!..very helpful and inspiring!..if you have seen quadmover a guy on youtube and fly's a impulseRC warp quad!...that kind of style should be explained! because what he does is from another planet and johnnyFPV if thats who your referring to at the begging of the video ..i think thats called "juicy"...i dont know but he is very smooth!..but my point is if you can make a video on the warp quad and that flying style would be magnificent!!..by the way you fly very smooth and tasteful not to flippy and jerky! ...the video on the blade torrent is one of my favorites!..how in the hell do you fly around the palm tree with the camera facing up!!..looks so cool and difficult??
Your right man,but i crash every once in awhile so i keep a back up with an old fc for warmups and breaks
Wow probably the best easy to understand information i have seen. Thanks so much brother.
Now I learned how to skate. Thanks. More videos of this kind please 👍
Loved this! Great tips. Definitely going to incorporate this into my next practice session. Thanks for making this video!
I can not thank you enough dude for how much this has helped my flying (well the videos anyway, i always like just ripping around!) Great video :)
I know I need work on my throttle control for sure but these are great tips
control over the quadcopter depends on what you want to do with a particular quadcopter.smooth operation and practise makes more sense.
Also, I sometimes like seeing the sticks with the move. True, you can’t watch them at the same time, but instead I will rewind a few times and focus on one or the other.
Oh my, i have been doing it all wrong for a long time. Thanks for this video. It really made a big difference on my flight. Subbed....
Really nice video, thank you for sharing. Those tips seem to make a lot of sense!
Im new tovthe hobby and this video helped me get my rolls more locked in this is like the 5th time i wached it grest video!!
I love these type of teaching videos!
One more time "Do not go to Center!" "Center is Bad!" Thank you for the tips Kabab! Drone On!™
Thank you for the tips at 8:40! That is very cool! I love the transition going from left to right or vice versa :)
Love your videos. Love that you take time to read each comment.
Always I do. I read every single comment
Thank you! Wish I would have watched this an hr ago b4 I crashed my cinewhoop 😂thanks for the valuable info mate! Subbed
Thanks for that interesting Notions definitely will try that out when I fly
Can u do more of these videos. This was really helpful. Thank u
UnlimitedVertical yeah but the sim is still useful
Absolutely. I don't see myself stopping sim practice any time soon. My old reflexes simply need the sim time in order to improve.
Adjust the simulators settings to fly like your main quad.
That makes sense, doesn't it :-)
nice video, I dig it man👍 helpful tips, and I enjoy your humbleness, the world needs more of it:) keep on rippin!!
Excellent advice, I am looking for tips to help Smooth Out my flying, these tips make very good sense to me. Thx for that!
Excellent video! Lots of good tips.
Love this!! I see your hands a lot in your videos!! :) thank you!! I wanna go practice now!
Feel inspired. Been practicing acro as of last week. Needed this video, thanks
