You are right, we have no idea sometimes what we have. We treat it lightly. I did serve as a Bishop for about 6 years. It was life changing. One night after settling in from a long Sunday schedule, the phone rang. There was a need. I began to murmur a bit at being inconvenienced. As I was driving these words came to my mind, “The promptings of the Holy Ghost will never be convenient, but the timing will always be perfect. “ This humbled me with the gentle chastening that comes from our tender Savior from time to time. I have never been the same in my service since then. I love the Lord. I know that He loves me too. Bishops are far from perfect, but the Love of God flows through those keys and changes both the Bishop and the flock. God bless you my brother.

The fact that this bishop’s resignation is considered a “news story” is in itself a testament of the overwhelming unity found within the membership of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

The Lord Himself, as he went around teaching, healing and even raising corpses back to life, was himself despised. I say even our Savior, the creator of heaven and earth, while clothed in a body of flesh,
suffered at the hands of detractors, backstabbers, false accusers, scorners, traitors. Ect.
The adversary has great spiritual power. That He can blind the mind and heart of man is without question.
But he needs our permission and cooperation.
To turn us from happiness, we must grant our imprimatur. The lord warns us to pray always that we be not deceived.
      satan devours who he can.
      Beware saints. Pray always.

I love the way u turned this around from the scandal, loss of an lds bishop, fear and confusion that potentially give an anti ammunition to use against the lds because of one who left and who often neglect the thousands of others who fullfill and magnify their callings and who benefit from the gospel and strengthen others that are on the path.

There is genius in this program. Bishops, counselors, Relief Society presidents and their counselors (who always seem to be the first on the scene when someone needs help), young men and young women presidents, primary presidents, missionaries, teachers, etc.--the Lord calls his disciples to love and serve in so many ways. It's brilliant. Instead of calling a few to do all the work, he calls all to do some so all get the experience of serving in some way. It's the Prince of Peace's program of apprenticeship.
Thank you, David, for sharing your voice and faith and song :)

Thanks for your heartfelt sermon. I absolutely loved your super informed presentation of the love the apostles were directed by the Savior to have. I was loving it! Thank you, Thank you!
Bishop Dave, i felt so humbled, honored and thankful for your letter to David Alexander sharing your precious sacred experience after your seventeen hour sabath marathon. Your recap of being called and how your service as Bishop evolved, I especially loved your report that you received extra time to be a husband and father. Not many people share such intimate spiritual experinces for fear they may tread on protocol of divulging something they shouldn't. I believe the risk is worth it unless of course we are instructed by the spirit specifically not to share. I believe sincere intimate experiences uplift immensely and are invaluable so thank you so much! I felt like you gave us a gift directly from heaven. Loved it!

David, just thought I'd share a little known story of Prophet, President Spencer W. Kimball. Now and then a senior citizen would drop by church headquarters and ask how 'Bishop Kimball' was doing. Bishop??? The individuals would be escorted directly to President Kimball's office where he would greet them by name, recall the times of 30 and 40 years earlier, catch up on news, inquire after friends and relatives and share a prayer. Truly an example of Pauline discipleship. Thank you, bishops out there 😊❤

David, thank you for this tribute to our bishops. My bishop, who is over the ward in Lahaina, Maui where over 55 members lost their homes and everything else in a fire that completely wiped out the historic whaling town last summer, has been such a humble servant and leader. The crisis didn’t seem to phase him as he shepherds our ward through the greatest welfare needs imaginable. His heart.for our plight has been stretched wide as eternity, and my love for him has never been greater. Where some, like that poor ex-bishop, only see ashes, the Lord is bringing forth beauty!

Davrd, there are vastly more than 75,000! My first LDS ward, just over six years ago, had an Elder's Quorum where just about every prIesthood holder over the age of about 45 had been a Bishop. It was the sort of place where very successful men and their amazing families moved to because of their great temporal success AND spiritual significance. Yet, they were content to let me, a new convert, guide the EQ discussion, which was then every week.

I recently watched a Tiktok from the Mississippi exbishop with him and his family asking the kids how they want to break the Sabbath that Sunday. The kids all yelled out different ideas, eat out, play video games, go to the park, etc. His kids were so happy and excited. I was watching and just heartbroken. I felt so bad for the kids. They are not going to have the gospel in their lives. They are not going to have the protection of covenants, of the Holy Ghost. I saw generations from that bishop away from Christ.

Having been a bishop, I understand Bishop Dave’s service and appreciate all he has done. I also want to call attention to the EQ and RS presidents who strengthen the ward and, in a well functioning ward, take upon themselves many if the burdens members often bring. The primary role of the bishop is to hear confessions and work with the repentant on their road to recovery, and the youth. When we all work together, amazing things happen.

When a Bishop quotes a scripture that he wouldn't misuse his power and proceeds to highjack the sacrament meeting to harm those he said he loved, is a hypocrite and seeking his one moment of fame. I love working at the temple, spent the last year and a half in the baptistry. The blessings are amazing. @@CatchTheBuzz1

One interesting thing about that quote from Jesus Christ by Paul, is where did he get it? It's nowhere in the four Gospels nor any of the accounts of visits by Jesus Christ after his resurrection. So where did Paul get it from? It would appear that there are other writings from Jesus Christ that the Disciples of Jesus Christ had in Paul's day, that no longer exists, or at least hasn't been rediscovered since Paul's time.

Barton, That is interesting, isn't it?...clearly, there was a lot of other stuff written than what we have in the Bible...and vastly more...early oral tradition/passing on...because John plainly declares that "many other things Jesus said and did, that if they were all written down, even the earth itself could not contain all the books that would be written!"...and clearly, Paul's quote of Jesus Words, "remembering the words of Jesus that He said, "It is more blessed to give, than to receive"....would fall in that category. Much love, David

I feel sorry for that bishop that gave into the wiles of the devil...
Satan strips light ✨️ from ppl and this bishop lost....
I hope he doesn't lose his testimony and his salvation.

David can you do a video precisely about the claim that we worship a different Jesu? Making reference to the Jesus we do love AND worship? It's for my evangelical friend. It's what he wants to hear next after hearing your original story.

Is the resigned Bishop still a church member or did he completely leave?

Pray for Bishops and Branch Presidents. And call your ministering brothers and sisters first before the Bishop. Obviously, I mean if it is not one of those things which only bishops can do. Bishops and Branch Presidents are the only one's who can do temple recommend interview, approve fast offering funds payments, and hear confessions.

Very sad. But understandable as the church expects bishops to counsel, and they are not professional counsellors, causing a lot of damage and trauma, especially for youth.

This is a misconception and absolutely not true. Bishops have access to excellent counseling services. Bishops are are asked to use only qualified professional counselors. From the Handbook Section 31.3.6 "Church leaders are not called to be professional counselors or to provide therapy. The assistance they give is spiritual, focusing on the strengthening, comforting, redeeming power of Jesus Christ."

This is something we can learn from the Seventh Day Adventists. They do a foot washing service roughly once a quarter.
