    At 180,000 miles on my 2013 Tacoma! No valve cover leaks and no timing cover leaks like on the early 1GR-FE. No issues at all. The best truck I’ve ever owned.

    I have a 2005 taco, with the 1GRV6-FE . Runs perfect no
    Oil or leaks of any kind. 220,000 miles burns no oil. I believe any good brand of engine oil is fine. My studies tell me oil gets dirty, not wearing or breaking down. Owners manual says change at 5k. I change mine at 4K. With filter and hope this truck lasts for another 200K with good maint. going forward. Best vehicle I’ve ever owned, and that includes some new ones. I bought this truck four years ago. It had 190,000 on it then. Still the best truck I ever owned!

    Thanks Petr - I was brought to your channel because of your Echo valve cover gasket change (I have 2002 Echo hatchback 1.3) but I have stayed because I love your attention to detail and I learn even if you don't often service Toyota Echo. My Echo has a 20th birthday next year in August and is still highly reliable vehicle for me. I request a long term service review for the Echo - what I should look for etc. I know you can only make video's on the cars that you service so I understand its difficult to do this. Thanks again for your effort in making youtube videos.

    Petr, It may seem strange but I find it reassuring to be warned about a problem we are NOT likely to have with our 1GR-FE engines. People with the cash in the USA and Canada might want to RUSH out and get a 4Runner today so they can get one of these engines with famously non-leaking valve cover gaskets before it is too late. In contrast, People in the Middle East can wander casually down to their local Toyota dealer and select the 1GR-FE in their choice of a Prado, Land Cruiser, Hilux, Fortuner, FJ Cruiser or 70 Series ;-)

    I purchased a 1GRFE powered light truck and had concerns about the complexity of the engine and reliability. Unfounded it seems as its just passing 500k klms and engine wise the only issue has been a front crank seal replacement just recently.

    • @krh007
      @krh007 Месяц назад

      Front crank seal seepage at high mileage can happen but it is not common. It is an easy fix once the pulley is off but just make sure it is replaced with a genuine Toyota seal (which is red in colour) and not an aftermaket seal (which are black) as have seen the aftermarket seals fail at as low as 30,000 miles as the quality is rubbish (made in China)

    • @Nics574
      @Nics574 2 года назад

      It was actually used in more than the mini van. A few Lexus models have it and its an extremely reliable engine. I had one in a 2017 Tacoma A/T and put 120k on it in 2.5 yrs then traded for a 2019 Tacoma M/T and never had an issue. The issues with the new automatic Tacomas is they are not properly geared from the factory, ie the gear hunting issues. The 3.5 engine is better on paper, idk why people say the 4.0 is better? Re gear it or buy the manual that is geared properly and it’s 100% fine.

Instead of a 102 for Mobil I use a 209A and if its a Fram a 3614 to a 3600....I still change mine before 3500 miles....It might be a waste of money , but I don't care....I love my truck...I just changed my Transmission filter. And do a drain and fill quite often.. Rear diff ,Transfer case ,front diff etc. Just did my power steering flush with Redline D6 ATF and brake fluid with synthetic dot 3 ,,clean my MAF , changed my PCV 3x (only 6$ for PCV) and throttle body on a regular too.....Runs like a bat out of hell too...I push her WOT a lot of the time. No leaks and the engine bay looks brand new...I've done a bunch of other things , but wanted to keep it short....But for what is recommended for intervals with Full Syn? I've always been told 7500 to 10000... I wouldnt go passed 7500....Peace.

    Hello Peter. I have a 2013 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4 with the 4.0L V6. That same engine. I want to put Denso Plugs in my Taco. I currently have NGK Platinum plugs in there. Does Toyota make a Denso Iridium plug for the 4.0L?

      Sadly, Peter doesn't reply to comments. If the manual calls for platinum, stick with that. The engineers know more than us.

      I ran the OEM Densos for 15 years in my Tacoma. No issues. Replace every 30k.

      @@rkgsd My Toyota Manual doesn't call for Platinum Plugs, but it was recommended by a Toyota Independent Mechanic here in my city. But I will ask my local Toyota Dealership for a Iridium Plug. Thanks for your reply.

    The valve covers don't leak because the front cover likes to seep on the passenger side lol

    They do leak. I have had 2 FJ Cruisers with same engine. Had to replace valve cover gasket on both engines. L video

    Adding gasket maker to try and address a poor quality or poorly designed press-in-place gasket is completely hack; that's typical Toyota. Don't admit to the problem and redesign it, find the cheapest way to get it to not leak during the warranty period and then write it off.

      Yeah, because the 4.0 is such a problematic engine………. He also said it was a theory. He wasn’t sure what it was. It’s probably a beefed up gasket from the factory. These engines regularly go 300k with minimal maintenance.
