  • Welcome to our 2nd video from our trip to Moab. There are at least 2 more in the works from this trip, so please subscribe to catch them first. This video does not have sound as it was extremely windy and you couldn't hear much. Our footage is from November 2020.
    Mods at time of Moab trip:
    • Mopar factory skid plates and rock rails
    • Offroad Animal Front Bumper & Hooks
    • Offroad Animal Bash Plate (sump skid plate)
    • Offroad Animal Hidden Winch Mount
    • Nitto Ridge Grapplers P265/65r18
    • Smittybilt 12k X2O Comp Winch
    • Hooke Road Hitch Skid
    • VIAIR 300P compressor
    If you're planning a trip to the Moab area, I highly suggest the trail guide book from Funtreks (I am not paid by them) as it provides info on most of the trails in the area and includes GPS waypoints and info on some obstacles. I also highly recommend joining one of the several FB groups so you can plan meets with others that will be there the same days and you can find out about trail conditions.
    We met a couple via one of the Moab FB groups and ended up spending our entire time in Moab with them. The lifted JK in the video is theirs and it shows a good contrast to the WK2 on some of the obstacles. Most of the video was shot by my wife, but some was also shot by the other couple.

    Yea, I have the same WK2 and overall; is a great off roader, however; it has poor articulation on off camper trails. A telltale sign when one of your wheels goes up in the air lol. It does require major upgrades (expensive) to improve articulation. Many IFS vehicles share that with the WK2, such as the 4Runner and FJ cruiser. The Wrangler is king on these trails because of its ability to flex with solid front and rear axles, plus the ability to discount the front sway bar on the Wrangler makes it the apex predator in that realm. We are eyeballing the Wrangler JLUR 4Xe ... but want to wait for the 2022 model with the Uconnect 5 and wireless carplay! Long rant lol ...

      I don’t disagree that the Wrangler is better, but if you get used to the tripod and can predict when/how it will react, you can go a lot more places than people give the WK2 credit for. I don’t really see it as a big disadvantage now since I know how it behaves on the trails.
      I was actually dead set on a JL instead of the TH, but, after driving them, the comfort and features on the Trailhawk were just better for us. Plus, it spends 80% or more of it’s time in the road.

      @@funkywk2 copy that, we’re keeping the Trailhawk no matter what, just adding to the family lol. And I do agree with your assessment, you just have to get used to it.

      I would say what the wk2 lacks in articulation, it makes up with its traction system. But the wrangler ofc is still the king

    No sound on my end. Tried it both on mobile and TV.

      Yeah, sorry about that. It was cold and windy, so you couldn’t hear the Jeep’s very well. I, get some audio and music on my next one (Elephant Hill).

    Awesome footage man. Any regrets going for a WK2 over something more conventional like a JK as a wheeler? My dad has a WK2 TH also and I love it.

      No regrets for us. I was dead set on a JL when I started looking. I drove several JLUR’s and then the Trailhawk. It’s way more comfortable and has a lot of features that weren’t available on a Wrangler (memory seats; I’m way taller than my wife) and ours has the Hemi. I know it can’t do everything a Wrangler can, but it can do a lot more than I initially though it would handle.

      @@funkywk2 I hear you, plus the JL’s are insanely expensive even used, you can find a nice WK2 TH used for 20k less than a similar JL. Thanks for the video, I love seeing less than conventional Jeep’s on the trail! I am a wj guy after all... haha

    We’re going to Moab next weekend and we want to do a little bit of wheeling in our WK2. We have a overland with Quadratrac II. All that means is we don’t have the electronically limited slip diff in the back. Do you think we could do the trail without any damage as it is our daily or should we look for a easier trail. Thanks

    • @funkywk2
      @funkywk2  3 года назад +1

      You’re likely to scrape the back in several places, which is why we opted for the hitch skid. Bare minimum, I’d suggest skid plates, rock rails, and bigger and/or better tires than OEM.
      Other than that, just take your time and pick your lines carefully.

    • @theforzaboi3776

      @@funkywk2 ok cool thanks. I know that there are some bypass to some of the obstacles. Even if we took those would we scrape? We also have Goodyear Wranglers which look like All Terrains which Iook pretty new and have a lot of tread left.

    • @funkywk2
      @funkywk2  3 года назад +1

      @@theforzaboi3776 There are bypasses to some things, but not the stuff at the end of the video. As far as clearance and the risk of damage, I’d say that is the worst part. I wouldn’t do any of the Badge of Honor trails in Moab w/o metal underbody protection.

      We took our WK2 TH to Moab in June and took it to Hurrah Pass and Chicken Corners. That was a lot of fun and totally manageable.

    No rubbing with those tires ? I'm thinking of upgrading my tires to the same size you are using but my dealer told me it may void my warranty.

    • @funkywk2
      @funkywk2  3 года назад

      Did you ask him why? Tires shouldn’t void your warranty. Ask him if they’ve voided the warranty for all the lifted Wranglers that come in. Or find a better dealer.
      No rubbing from the Ridge Grapplers in 265/65r18. Most other tires in those sizes don’t run, either. They haven’t held up well to rocky terrain, but did well on everything else.

      @@funkywk2 i live in Saudi Arabia and they told me in case of rubbing or any issues releated to suspension they would attribute it to tires size. We don't have customer friendly rules like in USA.
