- Internet Safety and an Art Studio Tour this week - What a week! I lost my Instagram account!
I have been so naive! This is my story of experiencing identity theft and fraud through a cyber-attack online. I am also showing you around my new art studio with a tour of what it is looking like so far! So once again, a really up and down, happy/sad kind of week. A rollercoaster of emotions for sure! I'm also talking about why Instagram is so good for artists and creators and wondering how to get my disabled, deactivated account back online! I share what I've learned about the whole experience with tips to secure accounts and keep ourselves safe in the online community. Phew, what a ride! Unfortunately, this happened to me about 4 years ago. Instagram was awful about it then, too. I had to go through all these hoops to prove my identity, including sending the photo alongside their number message. When it was all said and done, I was "allowed" back on IG but I couldn't recover my old profile information, followers, or pics. It was proof to me that a website is the only thing even remotely safe from losing pictures and information, and even then I have to use additional security plugins. Maybe someday there will be severe penalties for this type of behavior, but it seems like these hackers get away with this too easily today. I'm sorry for your loss, I empathize with what you are going through, and I hope that you will find a more secure platform in the future. IG has no sympathy at all!
Gosh it’s awful to read that it happened to you too in that way but also it’s comforting to read your comment as I don’t feel so alone… more has unfortunately unfolded in this past week and your thoughts about how awful Instagram treat people is very true for me too. Oh Wendy, I hadn’t left a comment in a very long time yet I’ve come across this and want to say to you how sorry I am this happened to you. That was a horrible violation. Lately I’ve heard this quote which is so true so I’m adding it here to share with with my heart felt intention and wish that it will help you heal. “Evil is parasitic upon the Good. Wherever you choose to plant your garden, we'll come and enjoy the flowers. We're all still here! I'm sorry your peace has suffered such a blow and caused such disquiet. Instead of thinking of connections as severed, they're just being tied to a new space - re-potted, if you will. We're all still growing and blossoming together despite this nasty bug that tried to nibble at all the healthy roots.

I totally agree you should make that narrow spot a serenity corner!!! Make it really beautiful and inspiring, with a water fountain, wind chimes, candles, journaling desk, plants, everything that re-energizes you for further creating!!! So envious!! LOL!!!
This is happening soo much especially on instagram, practically every other post on there at the moment is “scammer beware”
It’s ridiculous it’s put me off to be honest I was going to start my business on there but, I’m very apprehensive at the moment. I despair for you Wendy 🤦♀️
I feel your pain, I just had my bank card hacked online, took two days to fix it all, bank were great, luckily no money taken. It's the annoyance and the inconvenience and the horribleness of someone being so intrusive. Hope you can get your account back soon. Love the new studio with its new shop :-)

Stag and Seer’s had a fake account message me almost exactly what you have said here about giving ‘readings’ - it must be so frustrating!

But I wanted to tell you that you have inspired me to take out my art journal that was just laying almost empty for years, redoing everything in it and start using it! And I love it now, so much! I was one of the people they messaged me. I made a comment on their recent post saying "Imagine you are such a lowlife that you steal someones identity on instagram and repost their photos" and they liked it? 🤨 Guess they agreed with me?
Anyways when they messaged me I told them that they should delete their account and what they are doing is illegal and stealing someones identity is a crime and that they could be sued. All they did was block me afterwards but I did report them. From what I see from other people that account has thankfully been taking down. But gosh what an annoying thing to happen right when you are busy moving and nesting into your new studio. I'm so sorry Wendy 🥺

I'm so sorry to hear this, Wendy. My daughter just gave up on losing her account and her huge number of followers, and her supporting revenue she spent years to build up. In 11 months it has not be resolved by Instagram/Facebook. Because frankly, she has found the tech people just don't care and they have kept her in a never ending loop. I hope your story has a different outcome, but don't be surprised at the incompetence with Facebook in charge. I was considering going back there and being more visible, but your situation and my daughter's has put up the red flag for me. P.S. Once you get that little nook area sorted you should try and find some comfy chairs and make a little sitting/yoga area.

A lot of artists I follow have had their accounts hacked recently so I followed your advice and did the code thing. It's a shame some bad people have to do these things. Wendy you’re so incredible. I too would have been so frustrated with the IG problem. I understand about all of the work that goes into your Instagram account and all of your photos and art etc! But you handle everything with such Grace. 💕

So sorry about the Instagram hijacking! I follow lots of creatives and this seems to be a problem for many others as well. Years ago I fell for a Phishing email. They make them sound so official! Anyway...the new studio is amazing. Can't wait to see all of the wonderful things you are going to be inspired to create there!

Wow! Firstly, you new studio is looking so good. It inspired me to reorganise mine, and I’m very happy with my space now. About Instagram!! I am so glad that I gave it up. I had some strange hangers on, and other difficulties so have dropped it, along with facebook for the same reasons. I just keep the messaging part of FB with a couple of groups for family etc, but of course I’m not trying to run a business. I do hope you get things sorted to your satisfaction. Hello, I'm a new subscriber. I've watched a few of your vlogs, and I really relate to what you're about. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us all here. I'm sorry about the Instagram situation. It seems logical to tell ourselves that things could be worse and to count our blessings. But it's important to acknowledge and process how we are affected by such an attack. The bottom line is that it is a violation coupled with an absence of support from the very security system that you'd expect to protect your account. I have found that when things go wrong, it's a divine message that there's a better path for me. What I would do in your situation is focus toward building a personal website, as you mentioned, and incorporate an email newsletter to replace Instagram updates. I know it's always a challenge to start over with anything. I certainly hope your account is reinstated, but I believe this is a clear sign that you're much better off relying on yourself than handing that control over to an indifferent corporation. Maybe this is more opinion than you asked for in the comments, I just know there's a direct correlation between self-sufficiency and peace of mind. I wish you the best; you're clearly a very sweet soul.

Instagram is such a great place for us to see and show all the art and it is SO disheartening that Meta/Facebook decided to not have an easy way to talk to them about fraud and stolen accts. Shameful and frustrating! I would be like you, feeling very violated. I am glad to see you started a new one. So at least we still get to interact. I hope it is resolved soon. Big hugs!

I have been going through something similar (in terms of feeling powerless and meeting brick walls when I try to take control of the situation - a bit of a Kafka-esque nightmare one of my friends described it as) so I can certainly sympathise and empathise with you. I am so sorry this happened to you! This happened to me about 5 years ago, I lost all my photos of my work and followers and just had to suck it up unfortunately..... I started my a new one and am hoping this doesn't happen again. I have seen this happening a lot recently, some close friends and family and some of my followers. I just found your new page and am following you again! I am sure you will make a fantastic new page🙂
During your 360 tour of your studio, at 22:07 minutes, I just couldn't see the studio at all; I was so focused on you, Wendy, and how stunning you look! You glow from the inside and the outside. Love and hugs xx
maybe a few more shelves above your art-journaling table could house more of your gorgeous art. And a small, square shelf on the wall next to your day bed to pop your cup of tea on ;-)
My friend had the same thing happen. People spoofed her FB and IG accounts several times for about a month and harassed me and others with messages. It's just really ridiculous and the laws really need to catch up with this kind of identity theft. All of the hard work that you did to build your brand has been hijacked and you've suffered emotional trauma as a result. I'm so sorry this has happened to you.

I just want to start off by saying how much I love your inspirational videos. I recently moved and had to relocate my art space. The task of unpacking is both daunting and joyful. A chance to refresh and re-organize can bring about new ideas for future projects. It’s been about four months, and I still find myself moving my stuff around to better suit my artistic needs. So, I absolutely loved the tour of your new space and your thought process behind where everything has been placed and future ideas. Can I just say…that skylight of windows??? Wow. Also I wanted to say how sorry I am about the “Insta” crisis. I reported that person, but I can see your account suffered immensely from that scumbag. I just wanted to say that watching your videos brings me so much peace and joy, especially lately. Not matter what the content is, I feel that I am in a safe and inspiring place! Also (this might be a bit strange), but there are so many things about you that remind me of myself and how I have always envisioned myself in the future. I’m so sorry Wendy that you are going through this with your Instagram, I kind of can relate when our house was broken in. It’s like an invasion of privacy, difficult thing to go through, we have actually been broken into 3x now , very scary. I hope this all gets sorted out for you. Oh Wendy this is so terrible, the instagram issue. Yes I sent you a message immediately when they followed me and started messaging me. Sending you a warm hug and hoping this resolves soon. Hang in there! Most of us will be here when you get back on there. Yes there were 2 other profile pages I follow had the same thing happen to them last week on Instagram as well.

Ugh it just happened to me yesterday! I saw your RUclips video before and had to go back tonight while I was so sad and exhausted about how violated I feel. I probably won’t get my accounts back- had a back up but they got that too! I’m just going to create a new one and let it go. Not happy with IG. Their security is really shabby! This has happened to several artists that I follow on instagram. Think it’s happening more and more. It’s really scary as I’m trying to establish myself as a printmaker and instagram is really important to get my work out there. I’m so sorry that this had happened to you and thanks for your advice. Moving/times of transition can make you emotionally vulnerable because you're in between two places of safety/familiarity. Settling into the new place is what gives you emotional safety again, which is why I'm so glad to see you've pushed on through this insta-rubbish and have made yourself at home in your new studio already. It might sound silly or trivial, but it makes all the difference to your psyche.
I don't comment often but I've followed your channel and admired your work for a couple of years now, so I thought I'd comment so you know you're supported and we all hope it gets sorted as soon as possible. Peace&love m'dear 💕🌿🕊🌻

So sorry Wendy... this is so upsetting and frustrating, something we won't understand... why people choose to do these things. I always think if they are clever enough to do that why don't they use their skills for good and not steal from others? Good day Wendy! The new upper shelf with your paintings on is great! Before you mentioned James was adding on more shelf to this spot, I was thinking the same thing and kindly suggest to continue more upper shelf around almost the whole room, even to the right side of the door. Gives more off the floor and table usable space. One other feeling I had was your glass jars go on a little shelf to the right of the big window or somewhere else, they allow light through them as well. Happy settling in and feeling comfortable there in your lovely space. May you have peace soon on the other issue your are dealing with. Thank you for your lovely inspirations.

Oh I do feel for you had a similar issue but was lucky that I had no monies taken but did lose my RUclips channel and that was back in July 2021 and only now feeling confident to start a new channel and go forward - keep up your amazing work and your so inspiring x

It takes sooo long to build up an Instagram following and I find Instagram/Facebook as a company so unhelpful when things have happened - I haven’t been cloned but I lost my handle on Facebook as they claimed I broke community guidelines before I’d even posted anything and now have a separate account handle on FB to all my other social media as they just banned me without any recourse to appeal. The account cloning happens quite a lot in the online book community which is my little corner of the internet and has happened to a few friends. I dread losing my Instagram account because I have so many book reviews I’ve spent so long on and photos etc that I worked so hard on. I am so sorry this has happened to you but hopefully you will get everything back! Love that you’ve been settling into your new studio - it looks so gorgeous! ❤️
Yes! I see! Perhaps save all your work somewhere, you can click a setting on your app I believe and it will save everything and maybe have a backup account too! We have to be savvy that's for sure! Thank you xxxx

Oh, Wendy, I am so very sorry and disgusted this has happened to you. I was pleased to hear you decided to paint instead of “sorting out” stuff. I know you’re settling in, in your *beautiful* new studio but you need time to heal and gather yourself again. It takes time to get over the violation of what’s happened to you, so be kind to yourself, do what you love doing and that’s being creative. I’m about to start moving my studio upstairs and I’m rather excited about it. I lost my Mum in October to cancer and I’ve not been able to be creative. I don’t mind admitting, I’m struggling. Thank You for sharing your beautiful studio. Hopefully, I’ll be able to feel the joys of paint on my fingers again soon. 🎨 💗 🖌 🌻 ☮️ ❤️ 🌸

That is awful, rude, opportunistic, hurtful, out of your control, and exasperating! How dare they do that, to earn a quick buck from your trusting, beautiful personality!
Think I am mad on your behalf!
Feeling violated and soul stealing, is totally uncool.
To top it off you are floating in a cyber world, and this real world without a need for real human level of customer service, that we almost took for granted in the 1980's, but now it doesn't exist. Do you recall if we had an issue, it was one phone call, from the yellow pages, and it was addressed and resolved in one quick call! In big department stores, we had people to help us on the floor to find things, and many tellers there to pay them and pack for us!
"In an age of proof and mistrust", without consequence for this individual, it is a social time that we are all not really used to, this identity fraud is likely to get worse before it gets better. Big businesses, are just that, aren't they? Policework, and bank fraud, and even postal packages going missing, we often have to do about 10 emails and 3 calls, and find an ombudsman to mediate it! We now have to prove that we purchased a piece of software, we have a code for that too, that only goes to one email address!
It happens only to a few of our friends, as the latest opportune moment for people, who may be less fortunate, but who most likely have no remorse for doing very wrong things, to steal money from us and your good people on your Instagram.
You needed your safety, stability and identity, particularly when you moved to your new studio, to make that transition calmer, fun and easier. So the timing wasn't good for you.
This is likely to have impacted you, and has taken it's toll on how you eased, relaxed and entered your new space. So you may have to burn some more sage, and do more pondering, and airing it out! Writing in your journal about how you feel about this nasty real thing that happened to you, and glueing the pages together to hide it!
By the way, Your new L shape is looking lovely, plant babies on the window sill. You could stack your little square canvases vertically, like a book shelf, a better energy!
My question, Wendy....is where does a mirror go, in an L space?
Do you have a good link for a feng shui? I have a mirror, and I get a bit funny with it...I don't use it to look at myself, and I don't really want to see me, or my legs go past it? I don't want it to feel like a spirit in my space either! So it has to be comfortable, and functioning!
I need the mirror, a bit like your one from a robe, to do a routine with a doona blanket dance very close, touching the mirror, to look at my movements, and to then write about these movements in my novel for a scene....
Back to the other thing, we are no longer mentioning.....So just to let you know, my friend got hacked from her fb the other day. She did get her account back. Perhaps they were quicker, she had it back within a few days.
I watch Pierogi he chases, internet scammers and his followers on RUclips, pay back these people who get ripped off, often thousands of dollars. I also watch the guy who makes the glitter bo mb cameras, for parcel takers from people's front porches of their homes. He has been able to go to the Police and catch these people, with his work.
Knowledge is power! Having a giggle, a bit of fun. Like watching karma!
Perhaps watching a comedy, or a comedian, or playing a board game, or watching a fun movie.
A walk near a lighthouse, and seeing and feeling the sea air, is always a good release of anger and exasperation, to let it go to the wind......and see the light!

I’m so sorry that you’re going through this mess. I would suggest getting your website up - that way you’re not so reliant on the big corps… and, it could help your followers to find out what’s going on. The thought is that we own our website & email lists but not our social media sites - at the very least this means that social media companies dictate the terms (algorithms) & can change terms any time they want to do so (for their good not necessarily for the good of the users of social media).
Onto the positive- I LOVE your new studio! I miss my studio (had to give it up in 2020) & haven’t found the right new one, yet.
