    I love the fact you use common sense regarding your safety. You are one of the few solo female travelers I have found on RUclips that encompasses so many positive characteristics and it’s refreshing. So many you tubers lose themselves when they focus on the money aspect of RUclips instead of what their channel is suppose to be about. Thanks for staying who you are and being honest and genuine. I think you are a great role model for female rv’ers. Have a blessed day. PS... please keep Bobby Gene around. Not that you need him but I think your friendship is a great addition for both your channels... Happy Trails!!!

    even if I could afford it, I would not stay in RV parks...I hate being that close to other people, their rigs, & their noise. I've been on the road for almost 2 years, and BLM/NF/State Land is all I camp on. Free! Never had a problem….

    Great video, Pippi! But as a word of caution to everyone interested in this lifestyle: never underestimate the rig cost (initial and ongoing), particularly repairs... let's say you have the transmission in your motorhome going out, that's easily 2-3k right there and can ruin your budget plans. And since it's your house-on-wheels, its usually also not easily replaceable like a cheap car. RV living "can" be cheaper than rent, for sure, but some people have the wrong expectations.

    This is the best video on cost I have seen . I live fulltime in my RV . I became disabled in 2014 and bought a new RV , made one final trip to my favorite place I wanted to live out my life , Rockport , Texas . I pay $280. a month plus 13 cents a KWH for electric . I think the new campers are paying over $300. . Last summer , while in the hospital , we were hit with a hurrican and I lost my RV . Now I have a 2018 , with a better floor plan for wheelchair use , so life goes on . Rockport is recovering and we probley have about 80 RV parks , locally and this is a small town . Thanks for a truthful video .

      Good to know Rockport Fulton is making the comeback as it is my hometown. Hubby and I plan to retire there, my dad had a place out on Copano Ridge, we found a RV park Enterprise Street but felt it would be noisy with the High School traffic in the winter months. Pippi as always you bring on a smile when I watch you and the doggo.

    The short answer is it's the same as house living. You can spend a million (or more) dollars a year. Or you can spend under 10 grand a year. Just depends what you personally want life to look like and how much you're willing to sacrifice to full time.

    More about OKC...although I was on an extended business trip when I first encountered OKC, not in an RV, I did enjoy myself. Two of the things I remember most were: 1. How truly nice everyone was to me. It didn't matter whether I was in a gas station, restaurant, or lost and asking for directions - people were so down-to-earth and just flat out nice. Even the folks at the office where I was helping complete a project. Hope it still is like that 2. Great BBQ :-) I always manage to find some whenever I travel. Ok...that's my 4 cents :-)

    The Walmarts around this section of Florida don't allow overnight parking. They do have lots of security cameras but I don't know if they would help a random RVer if say, someone broke-in. And it would look better if you bought a little something - you would have an excuse for being there. -- Observation - with housing and apt prices going up and up most places (except maybe in Detroit) more of us will be looking into full time RV living. -- Another nice vid Pippi. Ok so here is my 2 cents. After watching and following Fate Unbound, KYD, LJMJ, and Driving n Vibin, who all do A LOT of boon docking and utilize BLM Land quite extensively I feel that it isn't dangerous. They often say they feel safer out there where there are fewer neighbors because it would be more obvious if strangers were trying to break in. And it isn't convenient to go WAu out there to hope to break in & steal stuff. Much easier where there are people and opportunities, where no one would notice a "different" person hanging around an RV.

    • @PippiPeterson
      @PippiPeterson  6 лет назад +1

      It’s usually easier and more convenient to follow the crowd. Why think for yourself or find out for yourself when you can let others do that for you.

    • @GenesTherapy
      @GenesTherapy 6 лет назад +25

      Hi Lisa, my 2 cents as a retired 25 law enforcement officer (Orlando) and full time RV traveler of several years now. I'm not broke so I don't need to boondock, although I have because there were no other options, I enjoy being retired and having some comforts as I travel our beautiful country. 99.9999% Crooks, criminals, thieves, rapists, ex-cons,...are broke and stupid. They usually have an addiction, mental disorder, or abusive history and have very little value of other peoples lives and property. With other investigators we have located most wanted fugitives in the BLM boondocking in tents, huts, tarps, or any "trash mobile" that they have taken from a relative or found abandoned. It's free and isolated, that's what they want. I have camped in BLM, Division of Forestry, public lands, etc. they are everywhere out there. I most likely will take notice of them much more easily than you. Yes there are a few 'normal' folks sprinkled out there as well, I fear for them..they will have stories to tell one day. Please, at least heed some very experienced advice, a single woman camped out in isolation is a target for predators. Like a deer alone in a field. It's not a matter of if...it's a matter of when will you be a victim in one way or another. There are many State, County, City, parks out there that are reasonable priced where those statistics I mentioned go down. Either way, have a protective dog, and a concealed weapons permit, and keep your head on a swivel and judge EVERYONE, be smart. Put a man sized pair of boots outside your RV when parked. Don't put flowers and pink flamingos all over your camper etc... Army Corps of Engineers also make awesome campgrounds and good prices. RUclips channels who boondock don't want to show that dark side, they want to show this 'look what I can do' because we don't have two nickels to rub together and can live cheap, or for free, out here with the rest of the loser low lifes. At 2am, no one is watching. Safe journeys to you what ever you decide :)

    • @ruabadkitty
      @ruabadkitty 6 лет назад +8

      Gene's Therapy, I understand what you are saying to a point. The one thing I do not agree with is the way you say that "broke" people boondock. I am not broke and I boondock everywhere. I boondock because I like the quiet, I boondock because I don't have neighbors next to me. (I can stay home for that) I boondock for the views and quite a few other reasons. I could go out and buy a brand new camper being as i am NOT broke but I do prefer to camp in my 1993 Dodge cargo van that I have had many yrs. As far as bad people living on BLM and everywhere they can hide, They are everywhere. You should know that being a police officer from Orlando ( I am St. Petersburg, Fla) You know as well as I that most convicts on the run come to Fla to live yr round under everyone's noses. As much as I have camped in Fla, Tn, Ky, Ga, S.C etc I have never had a problem. I am prepared for when that time comes. But you are not right to put people in groups. Some of the nicest people I have met on the road are poor. Once again you proved to me that Police officers judge people by their wealth, what they drive and how they live. God bless you.

      Nancy Rae Hi. Well, I can offer this, as a former park ranger. Even our wonderful National Parks have armed law enforcement for a very good reason. You’d be amazed how many shady things go on out on our public lands, pretty much the same as any where. Agree that many good times can be had, but we should all be prepared to take care of ourselves.

    • @GenesTherapy
      @GenesTherapy 6 лет назад +11

      Hi Nancy. I certainly didn't mean all people who boondock are broke. I used to occasionally boondock myself when traveling the country on my motorcycle for three years, that's camping. My intention was to convey those who boondock permanently, in one location, under a tarp, or fashioned shanty, or taped together pop up etc.... are NOT camping, the are existing out on public lands because they are excons or down on their luck, or have addictions or mental issues. Not all are bad, some are just trying to scrap by. Not ALL out there are transients, I understand that, some are campers who happen to be among them as well. But the chances are very strong those solo females who travel (camp) full time, and boondock, are more likely to become a victim of a crime, harassment, or stalking etc. Yes, they are everywhere, but it is easier to steal your things or harass you out in the middle of no where than it is in town, at an RV park, or county or state park etc. the numbers go way up out there trust me. Yes they are still there as well, but much much less if it a reputable park. Yes, some are quite nice, so was Ted Bundy. You put me into a group of 'all police officers' after telling me it wasn't right to put people in groups. My only intention was to give Lisa words of wisdom based on years of experience, because I have a huge heart and care about people and like to help them if they want it. The choice is theirs. Safe travels to you. :)

  • @Rocki5pr
    @Rocki5pr 6 лет назад +7

    After having fulltimed myself for years, and with parents that also were fulltimers for years so I am acquainted with their experiences (or at least the high/low points); ... have to say I would rather take the chance with neighbors within sight but not close proximity on blm land than have neighbors with your mindset close to me where they can be waiting for me to leave for a time so they can ransack my rig and get all the 'loot' into their own rig to hide the evidence ... Problems and people with low moral character/ no ethics are MUCH more likely to be sitting in a campground with more opportunities than in the middle of the forest in my and my parents' experiences.

    It also depends on if you own your rig or you have it paid off and how much you're paying for RV Insurance or car insurance if it's a converted camper van
    There's a lot of places to Boondock there's rest stops truck stops you said Walmart and Cracker Barrel there's also gyms that are 24 hours supermarkets that are 24 hours and a lot of other places
    I'm not going to list everything
    But you're right about the cost of campgrounds and fuel you're always going to have a cell phone bill you're going to have internet bill unless you're using your cell phone or a hotspot Bill
    You might have a DirecTV bill you might have Netflix everybody is going to be different and the food will be different to depending on are you going to cook or eat out or both and the other factor is are you retired and on a fixed income or are you able to work while on the road and pick up side jobs or be able to work remotely
    At the job you already have
    I can't wait to do this I don't know if I'm going to be full-time or part-time I'm going to try it and see how it is I know it's not for everyone but that's how you find out you give it a go and see what happens

    Thousand Trails gives free rent includes electric ($565 yearly membership). if you stay only 4 days you can go from resort to resort, no limit. If you stay over 4 days up to 14 days you must leave 7 days out of the system (stay in another park with a 1 week rate) then go back into the Thousand Trails system. I agree with you, The scariest part of boondocking for me is leaving my RV. Criminals find an unattended RV with no witnesses around, it's like a payday. Some of the Walmart residents can appear a little sketchy. I'll stay the night but usually don't leave me rig for long and usually not at night. I know most thieves live in the city but some wonder into the back country. In a park or temporary stay resort there are many witnesses and some have nice rigs and are less likely to steal. A close neighborhood atmosphere makes it more likely to get caught and therefore uncomfortable for thieves. The van dwellers who say how safe it is, when they leave camp take all their belongings with them in their van.

    So about a thousand a month is set aside for expenses just for camping. Food & fuel is a separate expense. Its up to you to go over or under your budget. Safety is an issue when considering your campsite. Boondocking is the cheapest but can be the most riskiest. Sorry to hear about your ankle twist Pippi, stuff like that happens.

    Could I add? BLM campgrounds are $7/nite with 30/50Amp & H2O, and camping (water only) $3, with the all-agency pass. You might have to have made it to 55 to get one of those. This was very helpful information. It is what I am dealing with in planning my trip out west this fall and winter. I am bringing my dog along and want to travel economically by boondocking whenever I can, but I don't feel comfortable leaving my dog in the trailer while I go off sightseeing if it is parked out in the wilderness. Because of that, I will be staying in RV Parks, State Parks, etc. more than I had originally planned. I have joined just about every club I can just to get discounts on the park fees. Having a pet along changes the whole way you have to travel, but I am glad I can take him with me.

      I agree Joan. I hate relying on a generator for AC. No matter what I worry about them and the heat. Even if I’m plugged into electric I still worry. Glad he’s going with you though because they are the best companions ☺️

    Nice new touch being able to film each other at a distance, hard to do by yourself. Florida by the month $720 with everything. Jekyll by the month $660 with everything. I exclude campground wifi, as I don't bother to check it anymore, all towers 24/7. Just a note Pippy, if the trailer has ABS braking, would suggest turning it off. Treat the 5th like an anchor you can throw out while ABS enabled on the truck for steering. I am 15.8k towing 8k with active brakes on 4 discs ABS off, the rig actually stops faster with the Toad, it will pull you down. imgur.com/qd2uKnb Before you were heavy towing light, now you are lite towing heavy, brake priority from the rear

      From what I am seeing on other RVers YT videos, the casinos now want you to spend around $50 in their casinos to stay the night. I'm sure not all of them are like that but it looks like that's the way a lot of them are moving towards.

  • @uweschroeder

    It really depends on where you're going. BLM lands are great - unless they're close to things. Personally I had more problems in RV parks and Campgrounds than on public lands. But then, I go off road where relatively few people go because my rig has 18" ground clearance and I can go where most people can't, so usually I'm alone out there except for the odd Jeeper with a off-road teardrop.

    Good advice and video. I drive a 45' motor home and there are very few campgrounds I can get into because they NEVER trim their trees, so I am sorta stuck with RV Parks. Security... I use a nest cam hook up to wifi and leave it set up in my rv when I leave. You can access it thru you iPhone. You and Gene should make a video of the camera equipment u use and stuff. Enjoy your videos. Good luck to ya.

      I’m thinking of getting a camera that has a temperature reading so I can check on the dogs

    • @tommy7451
      @tommy7451 6 лет назад +1

      Even though my rv has the automatic generator start I don’t trust it with my dogs. It the power goes out at park then it comes on and keeps the rv cool. So I have the next cam set up with a temperature gage in plain view.
      When I am away from the RV I check it every hour anyway. If there is any movement in the RV I get an email.If the power goes out at the park and the generator does not come on then your camera will not work either. If I see that I head straight back ASAP.

    I always love watching your videos cause you are very smart and you always provide plenty of very useful advices. However, I don't agree with you regarding the BLM. I have a quite huge rig (A very clean class A, 40 feet long with a brand new 20 feet trailer) and so far I never had a single problem regarding security or anything else. Of corse, you need to do your homework, I mean, do some search on google to read the reviews of other peoples in order to choose a BLM that suite your needs. Moreover, most of them was quite close from a city able to provide all services. Actually, I spend most of my last 5 months in west USA in BLM and it's been a blast! I have to rise the point that in my trailer I have my motorcycles. Maybe it is easier for me to commute between the BLM and the closest city when I need something. My 2 cents. Keep going your good work, you are awesome!
