I don't often keep up on Turtles materials so I'm really glad you put out these vids. I've enjoyed every one! I'm looking forward to picking up some collected volumes when I can. Thanks for being awesome and thanks for what you do!
Thank you for tuning in! I'm glad I can shed some light on these. I do highly recommend this series. All 150 issues. I hope you get to check it all out. This has been a personal favorite of mine.
@@BlerdWithoutFear I've been meaning to for sure. Pertinent to my other comment, and your response to it about them "hate reading" -- I definitely will give it a try. I do judge a work on its own merits. *And* -- representation is always cool to see. Didn't know the author's a trans woman; so I obviously want to support creative success in our sisterhood.

I was never was a fan Turner's writing. Most of the stuff before it yes. The first 50 or so issues of the IDW run in particular, we're incredible.
I'm glad to hear it ended good. I have about ten issues you finish. But it needed to end. It was a great series that ended up with the Turtles wearing pants and worrying about finding significant others. Pretty damn bad.
Despite some of the ups and downs, I am of the belief that the IDW TMNT reason is the single greatest piece of TMNT media ever told. If you seperate your nostalgia for a second, it told a better story than any of the cartoons and it gave us downright wonderful characterizations of the Turtles, their allies, and their enemies
No lies detected. It wasn't perfect, but it was damn good. Honestly... if this was the new canon going forward I would not be mad about it.

I have to admit I'm not a fan of the reincarnation related origin in the IDW universe it's mostly because it feels awkward knowing that the turtles were once humans, but it seems that now in this issue they made a kind of retcon with that? I mean they don't change the origin they presented much but now they showed Venus as the one responsible for Hamato and her children being able to live again in new bodies ( Or at least that's what I understood, I don't know if I'm wrong, please correct me if I'm wrong. ) But I liked that kind of retcon better, in my opinion it gives a better background to Venus
They didn't retcon the reincarnation origin. This is just a heal the timeline story similar to Bebop and Rocksteady Destroy Everything.
@@ReddVencher I don't mean that they changed the origin of reincarnation since in issue 150 they keep mentioning that the turtles are reincarnations, I mean what causes Hamato and his children to reincarnate, during the first volume they gave an explanation religious related to the gods who were linked to the beliefs of reincarnation, but during issue 150 they end up changing all that, with Venus being the one who implants the DNA of Hamato and his children so that they will continue their lives in new bodies, removing that spiritual and religious explanation that they had proposed since the first volume, but as you mentioned all this is caused by Armagon
@@ReddVencher I think my comment was misinterpreted, the origin of the idw turtles was not changed in issue 150, the origin of reincarnation is still maintained but what changes is the means by which Hamato and his children reincarnate, during the first volume it is explained that they were reincarnated due to a spiritual issue related to the gods that were linked to the belief of reincarnation, but now in issue 150 that changes and now it is Venus who inserted the DNA of Hamato and her children into new bodies so that they will continue their lives in new bodies eliminated all that spiritual theme that they had raised in the first volume but of course, obviously all this was caused by the Armagon disaster
@@Spidey-fg9bn The reincarnation from the supernatural still happened based on how time travel works in the run. The Venus stuff is just fixing the mistakes caused by the time travelling. (Laid out in the Bebop and Rocksteady Destroy Everything mini) The "spiritual" reincarnation still happened.

Awesome review this run has been one of the best comic runs out there today.
Sophie Campbell certainly gave the TMNT new life. The franchise started as a geek infested, cheesy cartoon. But the conic had elements of dark, serious, racial, and political undertone to it. Plus, it was expansive. Turtles dealt with mystical magic, demons, aliens, and A.I. it was fantastic. The stories and arc were excellent. I just wish Slash didn't die 😢
With everything going on in TMNT before she came on board, I'm really proud she did her thing. I wish I could have gotten her on for an interview. Maybe sometime soon. I wish I could pick her brain about all the stuff she did because she has a ridiculous amount of knowledge on Turtles stuff. Slash catching it might be the one thing that almost took me out. I miss my big boy. 😭😭😭
Didn't Sophie Campbell spend waaay too much time focusing on jennika
Yes, because Tom Waltz really did nothing to establish Jennika’s personality or how much Splinter meant to her as mentor when she was introduced in TMNT 51 until Sophie took over the book in 101. The groundwork really had not been done prior to make Jenny an interesting/relatable character that fans would want to see as a main cast member for 50 issues. I won’t say everything Sophie did was perfect, but in context of what was done with the character before hand, I think Campbell did the best she could giving a “5th Turtle sibling” the attention and development a concept like that deserves.
I loved Campbell's writing all throughout the Mutant Town arc, then Armageddon Game made things weird, and I think this finale totally fell flat. It should have been like Endgame, where every character gets their moment in the spotlight, but it was all about Donnie and Venus.
Why would you introduce Donnie's future kids in this final issue? This is not the time to be throwing new characters at us!
Making Future Donatello the ultimate bad guy of the whole series was the worst choice of all, even worse than leaving Raph, Leo, and Jennika completely out of the issue until the last two pages.

Sophie's run is legendary comics and the single greatest Turtles story every told. It's just the facts of the matter tbh.
I'm in full agreement. She's been lights out on this book. Kind of sad she's no longer on it. She deserved 50 more issues. Also, hope you're doing well these days. 😁

With Jason Aaron coming in, TMNT has had 3 great writers. This has to be the best TMNT in all of Turtle Time.

Its not hard to make a better venus or others like slash etc. They werent ever really done well. Its easy to stick the landing when the bar is so low. Tmnt is about mutant ninjas in a human world. Idw became a lgbtq+ furry shipfest. Good designs and good ideas over shadowed by the apparent self back pat for being "so brave". Usually there is a self insert character. This megalomaniac made a self insert book.
This is an honest, neutral question and I know tone of voice doesn't always come off right in comments, so I wanted to drop that there first. If IDW Turtles is so distasteful, what was it that made you keep up with the whole series? Turtles nostalgia? 'Cause I do get that that can be a pretty strong driver
I'm gonna go on a limb and say they either hate read the series or didn't read it at all. The fact that they're going off about furries in a book about mutant animals is telling me they didn't read it. Them being mad about LGBTQIA+ representation in a book written by a trans woman is wild to me, though.

I think Sophie Campbell and her team ended this tmnt IDW run on a good note.
They turned in a good effort. I honestly was not sure what to expect but the way she put the toys back in the box felt right.
