Those plastic washers can be stubborn at times. Megaloc or another pipe dope just help it seal. Thanks for watching!

Thank you! You're my hero! I replaced the P-trap on a basement utility sink and had gotten everything to STOP leaking except for the connection to the basket strainer. Your video was the only one that had any guidance other than "put in the tailpiece washer and tighten up the nut."
I got the Megaloc stuff, I put Megaloc all over the tailpiece washer and the leak was *almost stopped*. I opened it up and added Megaloc to the nut threads also and THAT DID IT. No leak. I had been working on this for DAYS. I was done within minutes of opening up the Megaloc.
(The nut was metal, but the threads from the utility sink strainer were plastic, worn down and that made the Megaloc even more important.)

Always make sure screwing on the copper nut to the bottom of the strainer that it did doesn't cross thread on you.i have a leak similar to this.i appreciate the tip im going to try it out .can you give me a tip for clogged drain i believe the renters poured grease down the drain ive tried a bunch of things and i get decent results with 4 big pots boiling water im good for a couple weeks then clogged again

Hello I have been watching video on drain install I have had a couple plumber out to help with the assembly the issue we ar having is the hole is to big the drain isn’t staying in putty isn’t working . We are thinking it’s a defect! If h have any idea would love to hear from ya
Does that work for shower head fitting. Like the Teflon tape.
The gasket that was under my sink, and the one the guy at Lowes Depot gave me to replace was not flanged like the one you had. it's just a flat square o ring. When I tightened the nut back the entire o-ring gasket just wedged itself into the upper pipe and provided no seal at all.
So what is that gasket called? a Tailpiece?
I replaced the nut but now it will not tighten up to the drain unless I take the seal out. Any ideas? I've tried numerous nuts too

that is my exact leak! water under sink..thats where it was leaking tried to tighten that nut and it wasnt even attached!! dont know why..but i help up the pipe and screwed the nut as tight as i could by hand..still trickling...i didnt look for a washer so ill try that and see if its in there lol...ill have to get some of that stuff :)
The Lowe's here in New Jersey sells the rubber kitchen sink tail piece gasket. It's the only place I know that had it.
were u able to use the stuff with the rubber gasket? it says it doesnt work with rubber and have to get a different kind of stuff on the can

I have used it a little bit. I am using it for a couple of videos coming out. I do have to wear them from work. I try to change but sometimes I forget a shirt. I don’t like them either. 😝
Great tip. However not that it doesn't correct the issue or anything but I would have used a 2mm thick rubber washer on top of that plastic washer. Done it many times with great results. I have a dedicated box of nothing but rubber sheet for custom and many different sizes
I like that though! I have used rubber tail piece washers in the past. If I had one I may have just replaced it. Do you buy the sheet rubber online? I’ve not really seen it anywhere and I don’t know where we get it at work.

It appears as if the pvc pipe and gasket you placed the mega lock on was not fully seating and is slightly askew. Maybe the drain is not seated in the sink level or that white pvc horizontal pipe is too long. If that white horizontal pvc pipe has a slip washer, loosen it so the vertical drain pvc can better align. Tough to fully tell from the video, but I think that is your root cause to it leaking. When assembling all the connections, don’t fully tighten one connection then move on to the next one. Progressively tighten each one a little and move on to the next pipe and come back to it to fully seat all the connections. Any slip connection should be the last one you tighten as that has the most freedom of movement.
what about a rubber washer ....i cant seem to find any replacement plastic ones at home depot online and did on amazon but not sure if i should just go with a rubber one from the depot...if so..i dont think the gunk is going to work with rubber? i havent taken the pipe apart to see if theres a washer..just trying to prepare for if i need to replace it what lol..i over think things
The rubber ones are awesome. I bit more spendy, but work great.
Also, if the metal nut stuck; then, I would use BBQ Utility or Multi-Purpose Lighter to warm up and expand the metal nut for 30+ seconds, then will be easier to untie !

I had to replace a nut like that and it came with a tapered rubber washer. Do you need the washer? I can't get the nut onto the threads if I use the washer. Am I missing something? It doesn't look like you're using one there.
I did use a washer. This one was plastic not rubber. Make sure the beveled side is siding into the pipe.
@@ThatFixItGuy It's inside the nut before you crank it on? I couldn't get the nut up on the threads with it in there. And there wasn't a washer in the old one I took off. Are some designed that way?
@@ThatFixItGuy By washer do you mean that plastic piece you put the megaloc on? I have that. That's not the issue. I'm talking about a tapered washer my nut came with. It fits over 1.5" PVC. And I assume you only need that for other types of connections. My pipe has a lip like yours in that video, and I can't imagine how the tapered washer would work there.
@@Heraclitean You probably moved on but this is for others. The "tapered washer" you are referring to is probably a "slip-joint washer." In my experience the "slip joint washer" is for when the pipe is placed inside of another slightly wider pipe and then you use the nut to screw into the slightly wider pipe which pushes the slip joint washer into the slightly wider pipe, which creates a water tight seal. The one he used in the video is a "flanged washer" or "tail piece washer" and he gave us a demonstration for using it. You don't need to use both at the same time. So take the tapered / slip joint washer out of the nut if you are going to use the "flanged washer" for connecting the tail piece to the sink drain.
This is what I just ran into today. Annoyed that I have to buy another thing to fix it.

So the basket is leaking? You will have to remove clean and redo or replace depending if it is still in good shape.
They're new. I replaced my garbage disposal and then realized I don't need one so I took it out then I just put to sink baskets in. I just put a simple drain in this morning and when I cut the water on it's coming out from the basket Basin bottom. So do I simply seal the bottom plate to the sink?
@@cherylward5315 yeah you are going to want to use plumbers putty to attach that to your sink. Some people use silicone as well.
