Well, it looks like you actually were almost safe under the table :) The arrows' downward velocity will not increase proportionally to the drawing weight, but like a shuttle cock have an upper limit: After reaching that limit (say after falling from a height of 200m), arrows won't accelerate any more because of increasing air resistance, so velocity will stay constant from then on. As you estimated, with the recurve bow that speed might compare to less than half-drawing, so the table would maximally be penetrated for a few centimeters. With the compound bow, even if it were to shoot three times as high, i don't expect the arrow's downward velocity to be so much higher. And the speed & kinetic energy of the lighter crossbow arrows will be even less!

The sharpness of the broadhead had less to do with the penetration than the fact that it opened up a bigger hole for the arrow to fit through. That's why the field points were worse at penetrating. The arrow had a smaller hole to go through and dragged on the plastic more. Food for thought, a four blade might be even better on these plastic tables.
If it's sharper it will lose less energy on impact :/

An arrow shot straight up will hit the earth at the same speed it left the bow. That would be in a vacuum. In real life there is a terminal velocity.

The weight and aerodynamics of the projectile determines the velocity it comes down with, the fletchings are there to provide stability but as they fall they're all pretty much the same!!.. at terminal velocity..it's probably about the same as your second shot with the recurve!!??... Maybe 100+ tables. The 50 cal was designed to penetrate light armour at the end of WW1, so plastic should be no sweat except extreame thicknesses/layers.
I don't think he can stack enough tables to stop it. Likely, the bullet would keep going through until it deviates to the side.

The reason broadhead penetrates better here is because the main stopping power of the table is the frictional force between the tight hole and the shaft of arrow. While broadhead tears the plastic structure and creates a better cavity for the body of the arrow to pass through.

The blade he used on the last bow its smaller than the arrow stick, wich means that it stoped way earlier than it would normally do.

The cameraman, (is it Gasparito) is one of those guys that just puts a smile on your face every time he opens his mouth.
I'm a big gun guy don't get me wrong, but in my opinion Gasparito is just as responsible for this success of this channel as Edwin is.
Terminal velocity of an arrow coming back down from a shot straight up has nothing to do with the power of the bow. It is weight and gravity that effects the speed and if it went high enough to reach terminal velocity. Probably if it goes up at 300 feet per second it’s coming down at 100 or less no matter the power of the bow or what tip you use.
the only part that has to do with the power of the bow is how high it can shoot - and correct there is not enough time to reach it's full potential @ about 200ft up - a drop of about 200Ft, takes about 3.5 seconds to fall and can only go about 113FPS (77MPH) … @ 500Ft it is going about 179FPS (122MPH) - these numbers do not take into account drag, just the acceleration of an object.
don't try this at home only suggest to do it at a friend house.. safety 2nd

Edwin, I love you guys' videos, but I've been hoping someone would tell you this particular thing about research methods: If your purpose is to compare performance of different bows, then don't change the type of arrowhead. If you want to compare performance of different arrowheads, then use the same bow. It's called controlling for error so that you're measuring more of what you want to measure and less of some other thing. In other words, if you want meaningful measurements, do your best to keep all variables constant except the one you're measuring.

Those bows packs a punch!
Physics says when something is launched in the air at x speed it will, at the end of its travel, be at x speed. So if you shoot an arrow in the air at 150 fps it will lose velocity slowly until at the very end at the altitude you shot from it will be 150 fps.
That's without air resistance.
Arrow probably has good aerodynamic shape to return with almost the same speed, but only if it won't start oscillating or tumbling from wind or whatever.

Shooting a Broadhead is like shooting a super penetrator from Underwood MO the Broadhead is made to penetrate. The practice arrow is just met to hit its Target. And not go the whole way through a whole bale of hay so that you can find them.

I’ve got to be honest, I don’t think a falling arrow would have gone high enough to reach terminal velocity on its way back down. But to put things into perspective a 0.30 calibre round at 300 feet has a terminal velocity of about 330 fps. Now bare in mind, the PSE Compound will be lucky to hit 250 fps horizontally, make what you will of it, I think Edwin would have been as safe as you like under one of those tables from a falling arrows.

Ha, 3 tables was exactly my bet in how many a fast arrow could go through before stopping. Bet was one table with a recurve. It's hard for arrows to go through many objects because their shaft creates a lot of friction. Perhaps a wider head would help reduce the friction for the rest of the shaft by making the hole bigger to start with.
Arrow target points are designed to prevent deep penetration of target boards...
