I bought dark souls 2 about a week after it came out ony ps3. It was my first souls game and as a 15 year old it changed my life. I played over 1000 hours of just vanilla PVP. Now my little brother is starting to play all the souls games and dark souls 2 is the last one. My ps5 has it downloaded and when he plays I'm constantly talking about the changes and how cool the different versions are. I replay atleast twice a year now. Dark souls 2 will always mean the most to me other than bloodborne. It's the most replayable and the only souls game where I have a blast doing a hex run. Right now doing a strength faith build. Power stancing 2 lightning infused greatswords with the unique invader armors.
It's noteworthy that in Vanilla this particular Heide Knight was guranteed to drop the Heide Knight Sword. This weapon is frustratingly rare in Scholar. In my opinion a much better and more interesting reward than a few extra souls from a repeat enemy you already know from the starting area.
I don't remember if the balance is different in vanilla but to be completely fair those swords are kinda trash in scholar, even if you go for faith. I see em drop often because I farm the knights for how satisfying it is to parry them and I feel like I keep finding fool's gold
@@Winter_Lantern It's not something you want to carry to the end of the game but much like the fire longsword it is fairly decent at the start of the game. It also has a rather unique moveset and is fun for an early dual wield build with it's low stat requirements. Maybe I got unlucky but the last time I played Scholar I cleared all the sword knights in the area and had to join the champion covenant to get it. The whack mechanic of worse drop rate on repeat kills of enemies probably doesn't help either. It just felt like a cool reward. Same with the guaranteed spear drop from the Heide Knight in Lost Bastille.

lol apparently the Bandi Namco vs Namco Bandi change was made after Dark Souls 2 came out in 2014
pretty informative video
scholar is just better ( my first experience with ds2 was vanilla )
Scholar was like a whole new game, big time.
Really interesting, even breakdown
I have the vanilla on steam but i think ill crack the softfs version
I have both. Sins of the First Scholar is the definitive edition of Dark Souls. It is THE Souls game and the only one that should ever be played.
