@@antarcticorb9197 THIS! This was the comment I was looking for. Brad Delp actually sang his own backup vocals and then layered them. This album is my favorite all-time album, I bought it in 1976 as soon as I heard the first track. I still have that same vinyl album but I also have it on 8-track, cassette and two different DVDs lol. Boston made a massive mistake with this album. It was too good to be true. Here in Florida, back in the 70s and '80s we used to have something called the Superbowl of Rock.( Nine bands, 3 days, 15 bucks and camp out.) Boston never sounded as good in concert as the albums because the albums were mixed to the highest capacity possible. I think this is probably the first album that was so meticulously put together that it actually hurt them in concert because they couldn't replicate it. Boston went up against Journey and, Journey destroyed Boston in the final round because Boston couldn't get a complete sound like they do in the studio. (Well, the basement). They were good in concert but they were not magnificent in concert because this album, although one of the most talented albums ever put together, has a lot of lights and mirrors.
I am so happy you found Boston! They were huge in their day and to be honest I think there rock bands today that don’t come even to 50% of Boston’s class, ingenuity and vision.
Luv it Salvo like always from you. Let’s just take a moment and remember Brad Delp, The lead singer of this fabulous group. He passed away way too young, at the age of 55. And it was a terrible tragedy that occurred. RIP BRAD, your voice will live on forever!
I have 8 favorite songs on this album! Each of them gets to be my #1 favorite at various times. I have been listening to this album since it's release and it never gets old for me, 47 years! Loved your reactions to all 8 songs, thank you!
I absolutely agree...this entire album was absolutely great. I ran out and bought it right after I heard "More Than a Feeling". I was not disappointed, needless to say. Thanks so much for reacting to the entire album; it was a good trip. For me, anyway.
This is the only track on this album that Tom Scholz didn't write; Brad Delp wrote it. Delp's lead vocals were double-tracked, and he also sang all of the background harmonies himself.
Man - I have this on vinyl. I bought it way back in the late 70s or very early 80s. So, I know this song. It played frequently on the radio thru the 80s. But I don't think I've listened to it since the mid-90s. It gets overshadowed by their other hits. Great song. Great album. Timeless. Sounds as good today in 2022 as when I first heard it in 1979 or thereabouts.
I'm really enjoying watching you react to Boston. I started last night and still going this morning while I work. You do a really good job of covering each song in detail.
All the vocals are delp. Individual parts recorded and Then overdubbed without any digital tech. Amazing engineering and pitch perfect singing by delp.
I haven't listened to this in quite a while but I must have heard it a billion times in the course of my life and it never gets tired to me. And for example I kind of forgot about this song and that it was the outro to the album. But I love this song it's fantastic. But then again I could say that about every single song on this thing. I had it on eight track cassette cartridge when I was in junior high which meant we could take it mobile because my friend had a car that had an 8-track tape player in it so we can take it out to the lake or to the park have a fun time and then blast it and on an 8-track, it will just keep repeating endlessly until you stop it so this is the kind of album you can listen to like that it really is. And then I saw them live in 1977 I would say fantastic, the vocals and the harmonies and everything were just top-notch. It was all just fantastic. And what really blows me away is that the ticket price including all the extra fees and stuff, it was $7.50.
This album is my 'go-to' feel good album, especially in the summer. Patio, cold beverage, sunshine, perhaps a herbal substance, and Boston - it just fits. Not a bad song on the album, front to back it's a fun ride. Fitting end to this great debut! Thanks Salvo.
It has been a pleasure watching you discover Boston. They're even better live!! Can't wait to see react to some of their live videos, it's too hard to decide what to suggest so just pick one, you already know you can't pick a bad one...lol Thanks for making this old lady smile, I love watching this generation discover music from my time and hear them all say, "Now that's real music" Have a wonderful day sir!
This is one of the two songs on the album that the whole band plays on (the other is Foreplay/Longtime). Brad Delp also plays the acoustic guitar on this one.
17 Million albums sold in US alone 1976/1978/1979. The studio demanded the band to get back into the studio for 2nd album. Was pretty good, 3 great songs.
Boston has literally been one of my favorite bands if not the favorite my entire life and I am 46. It’s all about that real rock ‘n’ roll arena rock style anthem style with amazing tones in the guitars and beats it’s definitely assembled by a genius in tom Scholz. And Brad Delp has the iconic rock ‘n’ roll voice to complete it. This whole album kicks ass.
I still clearly remember the first time I heard this album... not long after it was released.... Agree w/you all the way, can definitely relate to your reaction....
When I was a young woman I was working out of radio station in the pre-computer era. When this song came on, I would go into the room where we kept all the file cabinets and shut the door and cry, thinking about my mother recently diagnosed with cancer. Yet along with the tears I found the song brought me relief. The concept here is not a simple one. Is to keep going in the face of grief and loss just because you want to and because it's worth it. And I've always felt maybe the last verse was a reference to somebody considering ( trigger warning)self harm.
I know how good this album was but watching you react to the songs has made me relive and appreciate it allover again, thanks, I'm a new fan and subscriber....
It's Barry Goudreau on backup vocals and guitar. He was Boston's secret weapon (and Brad Delp's brother-in-law). His voice meshed perfectly with Brad's.
boston is one of my all time fav bands.....but i did a search on your channel and i see you havent reacted to my new fav band, "the warning". this band is blowing up right now, after touring with halestorm. i suggest reacting to "evolve"!!!! you will love this band!!!! it will send you down another rabbit hole!!!
The album cover is awesome too it looks like UFO's upright but when you turn it upside down it's actually guitars. It one of the coolest album covers of the 70's in my opinion.
Tom Schultz the guitarist/ organ player created this whole album in his basement anodize genius. Lives longtime/ foreplay shows tom Schultz talent on multi instruments.
He didn't quite create the "whole" album in his basement, although a lot was done there. The guitars and keyboards and most of the bass parts and the early mix were in his basement studio, with a producer (John Boylan) flown in from Epic. The producer agreed to let Tom do his thing and gave him co-producing credit, but he stepped in when necessary. He flew out an engineer from LA to show teach Tom how to set up the microphones for an acoustic guitar, when John felt Tom wasn't getting a good recording of the acoustic. The vocals and drums were recorded in LA and the final mix of the album was also done in an LA studio. John Boylan gave Tom the same freedom of control that he did in Tom's basement, but he did step in and had some recording engineers help Tom when it was obvious that he didn't know how to set the microphones for recording the drums, and also when he had the guitars so loud on the final mix that they drowned out the vocals. On "Foreplay" Tom plays the guitar, clavinet and organ, Barry Goudreau also plays guitar, Franny Sheehan plays bass and Sib Hashian plays drums. On "Longtime" Tom plays acoustic guitar, bass, organ and clavinet (Franny doesn't play on Longtime), of course Brad Delp does the vocals, and again Barry Goudreau plays guitar, and Sib Hashian plays drums.
Would love to see you try some tunes from “Don’t Look Back” the second album, like “Don’t Look Back@, “Feelin’ Satusfied”, “ Party”, “A Man I’ll Never Be”, and “It’s Easy”
The title of Boston's second album was "Don't look back", which was almost a warning! After this epic collection, anything short of musical bliss was going to pale by comparison. DLB was actually great as well, but ultimately didn't and more specifically could never come close, condemned to be an also ran... Solid reactions from Foreplay/Long time right on through! You had earned my subscription prior to this album, but definitely solidified through the lineup...
After listening to the entire album, I’m sure you can see why it has sold over 20 million albums worldwide. Their second album, Don’t Look Back is a good album, but it’s hard to top that first one.
Most albums have filler songs. They're usually B side material and just something to take up time on the record. This album had none of that. There wasn't a single flaw anywhere and each song is a classic. Hope you enjoyed it!
Tom Scholz is a musical and electromechanical genius of sorts. Brad Delp is one of if not my favorite male singer .. especially here in his prime in this first album.
Anything off of Don't Look Back or Third Stage are easily worthy of a reaction. Although their concerts (w/ Brad) were fantastic as well, Boston songs really should be heard first as original studio versions.
I seriously am seeing the lounge lizards of the 70s in their polyester suits and exposed chests with gold chains saying “let me take you home tonight, pretty mama.”
They sing it MUCH, much better than you please don't interrupt and sing. Like Bill Murry insists on singing in every movie and it is terrible. Don't feel bad I can't sing either. Just listen, they do it very well.
Science has proven that it’s physically impossible to listen to this debut album, any song, and be depressed. SCIENCE, i say! You know, we old goats (and…goatesses?) always want to see you crazy kids responding to “our” music, the same way we did. I’ve watched plenty of reactions like this, and they either like the music, or pretend to, and it’s cool. But your reactions to these songs off of this seminal album were clearly real, and your appreciation & excitement take us back to those days, when this album first dropped, along with our jaws.
This entire album was an absolute delight. Thanks for being here with me!
No problem man, I enjoy your reactions. By the way, my nickname in high school was "Salvo"...🙂🙂
Double tracked vocals.
No problem, you should definitely listen to the Dont Look Back album! Some amazing bangers in that one too!!!
...my apologies for the misspelling of Rock God Mr. Tom Scholz" name.

I feel compassion for the generations who know nothing about classic rock.
Willfully ignorant
I am so happy you found Boston! They were huge in their day and to be honest I think there rock bands today that don’t come even to 50% of Boston’s class, ingenuity and vision.
That's all Brad on the vocals, baby! He is a master of over layering and harmony.
Luv it Salvo like always from you. Let’s just take a moment and remember Brad Delp, The lead singer of this fabulous group. He passed away way too young, at the age of 55. And it was a terrible tragedy that occurred. RIP BRAD, your voice will live on forever!
I agree. I was heart broken when Brad passed away. He had the most amazing voice. An incredible talent. RIP Brad
I have 8 favorite songs on this album! Each of them gets to be my #1 favorite at various times.
I have been listening to this album since it's release and it never gets old for me, 47 years! Loved your reactions to all 8 songs, thank you!
Your officially as happy at us teens in the 70's, welcome aboard :)
Brad sings it all! Awesome singer!
It's been crazy just watching you react to this album! I've known how fantastic they were for years, now you know. No one before, no one since!
Brad Delp did all the vocals.!!!!!
Brad does his own background…Best album of all time….period!
I absolutely agree...this entire album was absolutely great. I ran out and bought it right after I heard "More Than a Feeling". I was not disappointed, needless to say. Thanks so much for reacting to the entire album; it was a good trip. For me, anyway.

@@79tazman and under the bubbles on top of the guitars are entire cities...one being Boston...
Every song I hear I think is my favorite. Then the next song comes on.
One of the greatest albums of all times! When one considers it was the debut, it's out of this world amazing!👍
I bought this album as soon as I heard More than a Feeling.
Best Debut album of all time.
Without a doubt. Anyone who says otherwise is lying to themselves or ignorant.
I agree, I love Van Halen's first, I love GnR's debut, but Boston's first album is the best!!
I love all your reactions to Boston. It is like seeing me at 12 discovering them.
This is the only track on this album that Tom Scholz didn't write; Brad Delp wrote it. Delp's lead vocals were double-tracked, and he also sang all of the background harmonies himself.
I remember when this album came out. I wore out the vinyl at home and 8 track in my car!
The backing vocals are over dubbed from Brad Delp .

I love to watch someone listening to BOSTON SONGS for the first time
Been so great sharing this album with you! Love you
If this album is an 11 out of 10, their second album "Don't Look Back" is a worthwhile 9.5 out of 10... I think you'll enjoy that one also.
Every song on this album has been my favorite on the album, at one time or another.

All lead and background harmony vocals are done by Brad Delp. "Let me take me home tonight" written by Brad Delp.
"A Man I'll Never Be" from their second album sets the bar really high for power ballads; "Don't Look Back" and "It's Easy" rock really well too.
Great!
Wait until the next one don't look back
MORE MUST HEAR BOSTON SONGS! A man i'll never be, Don't look back, Amanda, Cantcha Say, Cool The Engines, It's easy. Don't be afraid.
It's Barry Goudreau on backup vocals and guitar. He was Boston's secret weapon (and Brad Delp's brother-in-law). His voice meshed perfectly with Brad's.
Except that he didnt...brad did his own backup vocals. Barry is a good guitarist but Tom is the magic behind boston.
Lead and Backing vocals on all tracks - Brad Delp RIP

If this song sounds different than the other 7 songs it's because this one was recorded in LA at Epic records. Tom had very little say in the mixing.
Wishbone Ash, Supertramp, Uriah Heep...check them out
Well maybe I hear they just turn the heat on
The pick-up lines today do not hold a candle to this!
