I may be a little slow but never seen this mentioned before...
Asriel’s name is a combination of As from Asgore and riel from Toriel.
And an anagram for Serial (as in serial killer). Finally, if you played Deltarune, you can also pick up that the name of one character, Ralsei, their name is an anagram of Asriel. So much behind a simple name. ;)
His name is also similar to Azrael, the Angel of Death, and Asriel's final form resembles an angel, not to mention "God of Hyperdeath is an upgraded name of Angel of Death.
That’s also why The Prophesy from Undertale refers not to Frisk, not to Chara.. but to Asriel.
“The one who has seen the surface. They will return and the underground will go empty.”
The key words are “seen” and “return”. Asriel HAS seen the surface when he absorbed Chara’s soul and they went out there to get six more.
And then he returned. Not just from the surface but from death. And in the end he really did free everyone.
Finally, Gerson’s story. “Lately people started taking a bleaker outlook. Calling that winged circle the Angel of Death.” But why sis they suddenly changed their minds? What happened lately that could make them feel that way? I’ll tell you what: Flowey came to be.
This is why it’s so amazing. You were never the chosen one. Asriel was. You’re just following in his footsteps: trying to “free” everyone one way or another.

Thank you, I have always wanted to know about undertale, but I didn't want to have to watch gameplays that are hours long, but all in separate parts, and forget what happened! So, this is a really good rundown, thank you! Now I understand the story.

It's equally possible that Chara had little to no intent on destroying all humans and just wanted to collect enough souls to free the monsters.
Asriel stated Chara hated humanity and it was stated they wanted humanity to be destroyed. It is canon that Chara hates all humans... the only thing that's headcanon is how they felt about monsters.
Everything about Chara can be evil or neutral... it's all up to your headcanon.
@@deleting-e9p But that's not because of Chara changing her mind, but only because of Asriel taking back control on his own body. Chara was to destroy every human, and had no doubt about doing so. Also Chara clearly uses Asriel as a tool of convenience to make her plan work and kill humanity. Chara tries to poison Asgore first, trying to gain control of his soul, with the buttercups pie, and so does again convincing Asriel to kill her in order to gain control of his body by making the prince absorb their soul. Because of this, it's very likely that Chara does indeed hate Asriel, but he's way too naive to notice how they actually feel about him.
@@deleting-e9p it is stated, though, after the true pacifist ending if you speak to Asriel in the entrance to the ruins. He clearly says that Chara hated all of humanity and that it was Asriel who decided not to kill the entire human village.
@@deleting-e9p the part about wanting to hurt Asgore is deeply implied in the 3rd VHS in the true lab where Asriel and Chara talk to eachother and Chara tells the kid to use the buttercups to kill herself.
We don't know Chara's age and the thing is that Chara is a kid and mistook cups of butter for buttercups and them laughing could of been them trying to cope as it has been show to be a coping mechanism for pain in game. They realized after the pie that the flowers were poisonous and decided to sacrifice themself so Asriel could take their soul and cross the barrier so that they could get 6 more human souls so that the barrier could be broken. When the humans attacked Asriel, Chara urged them to kill them all for their safety because they care about Asriel but Asriel refuses and Chara accepts this as their plan to free monsters fails as that was their plan. The reason Chara is evil in the end of the genocide route is because YOU the player made them believe that their reason they were brought back was power and they were corrupted by LOVE (aka Level of Violence) and make you give up your soul and choice as an effect. They take away your happy ending because you can't erase the sins you committed even by resenting. You will always feel your sins crawling on your back from what you did. Chara helps you on a pacifist route since Chara knows Asriel and is helping the player/Frisk achieve their goal. The extra dialogue from doing a second genocide run backs this up.

Hello, Terracorrupt! I absolutely love your videos, and while any project you publish is certain to be informative and entertaining, I would love to see a Radiant Historia timeline video. I've been playing through the game for the past two months or so, and I'm shocked by the lack of publicity it's received among the online JRPG community. The story is absolutely brilliant and really deserves more attention. I'm fairly certain that Final Fantasy 7 will collect more votes among your viewers, but if the opportunity does arise, please keep Radiant Historia in mind for the future. Regardless of what you decide, keep up the good work!!

I'm sorry, maybe I'm missing something here, but last time I checked the poisoning of Asgore was an accident because being children they misread cups of butter as buttercups (a poisonous flower)
This is true, and that's how Chara learned that buttercups were poisonous and where the plan to poison themself came from
Re-experiencing the story of Radiant Historia would be a real treat. As much as I like FF7, putting a timeline for RH would differentiate your channel from topics that have been done time and time again.

this video taught me alot about this game. at the end of the pacifist route i literally thought that when asriel was with chara (i think) in the flasbacks i thought that was toriel when she was little. im so dumb.
good explaining, although my "Chara's not evil" alarms were going off like crazy lol, but at "Gaster likes to SCIENCE" i laughed so hard I'll just forgive the minor mistakes. you got the basic idea of Undertale down.

That Gaster intro is so on point

Actually Chara's story goes a bit more like this: *Chara is the 1st fallen child* (Inside mount Ebbot where the Monsters were sealed with false accusation), and was taken by the Dreemurr familly. Chara soon became best friends with Asriel, and one day they together desided to try and make a Butterscotch Pie for their Dad Asgore! Unfortunately the pie did not go well: for they had *mistaken "Cups of Butter" for "Buttercups"* (A Poisonous flower) and Asgore got very sick. The two of them paniced and felt terrible, Chara laughing it off (which is a way some people deal with pain.) This gave Chara an idea, an idea to save all Monsters! So oneday Chara told Asriel that they were going to poison themselves, so that Asriel could take their soul, cross the barrier, and kill 6 humans so they could *destroy the barrier freeing all Monsters* to once again share the surface with humans *once again!* Chara asked him to also lay them, down in the bed in their village. The plan went perfectly, but... Asriel backed out the last moment result in them taking so much damage leading to their death in the flower bed courtyard together (Since Asriel never got to put Chara down, but Chara was happy to have their body stay with monsters, after having a fresh reminder of how Humans can be). Anyways Asgore told Alphys to experiment with creating articial souls so Alphys tests it on one of the flowers from the courtyard. Now because Asriel's dust (What monsters turn into when they die) was on them he was revived as a heartless, souless, emotionless *Flower who we know as Flowey* the Flower. As for Chara, Toriel took their body and barried it in the Ruins where she now lives to be away from Asgore! When *Frisk the 8th Human* falls their Determination awakened Chara's Soul of Determination, leading *Chara to basically be a Ghost and your Narrarator* through out the game! *Now when you go on a Genocide Run the hate takes over Chara turning them Evil, Otherwise they're good!*

The souless pacifist route is what happen if you complete a pacifist after genocide
Gaster was a darkener and he traveled to undertale (probably with some sort of machine) Gaster then died and spilled across timelines, some being deltarune, and some being undertale, his pieces turned into sans and papyrus
i`m actually new to this series. i seen videos about the series like dub comics telling really good storylines ,but i never really knew the full story since most of those story were made by people who like the franchise. and man, i gotta say, this series concept is really interesting. it actually sounds like a masterpiece, even tho they using things simple like *determination* and *reset*,but able to apple some much depth to them so they can actually have more meaning than they already have. i just find that amazing and i`m kind i find out why this series is loved about many. i give it a 10/10

i somehow thought toriel was some creepy guy and so i killed her my first time. then when i realized she was basically my mom i was like NOOOO WHAT HAVE I DONE. bc let’s be honest being told “come here my child. follow me” is creepy coming from a dude and comforting when said by a woman. i literally cried after i killed her.

No he wont die. Your kill counter womt inscrease and you wont get any exp at all so sans is alive. Dusting sound is same as sparing sound its like sand did spare escape or dont know

It always made me wonder, why do people think Chara is male...? I mean... as a name, Chara is exclusively feminine, no matter how you spell it, "Kara" or "Chara". Even the appearance of Chara is stereotypically feminine, due to the rosy cheeks.

@@themanofthehour6218 Actually, we don't know that either. Just because there's yet to be an official gender doesn't mean that the gender becomes nonbinary. There's a significant difference between choosing to make a character outside the binary and simply not stating they're part of either side.

On my first run, I sort of cheated because I only started playing once I figured out that I could spare Toriel. I decided then that I'd only kill any monster that would pose a threat to others - which, in Undertale, never happens. So my first run was a pacifist.
Several key errors in here, but otherwise a good summary.
1) 4:05 This should have read "When Asriel died, his dust was scattered into the garden. This will become important later."
2) 4:40 All of this stuff concerning WD Gaster is speculation. He is not explicitly tied to any part of the story, and is only discoverable through examining game code. The Snowdin Shopkeeper only ever noticed two skeletons coming out of nowhere. What you laid out represents the leading theory of Gaster's involvement, but it would have been nice to remind viewers that this is unofficial.
3) 6:28 "Out of Asgore's garden"
4) 6:39 The grammar of "the flower was imbued with some of the essence of Asriel's soul" suggests an intentional act by Alphys. It is very likely a coincidence that they chose one of these flowers for the "inanimate object" test. They had no way of knowing they would bring Asriel back from the dead in this way.
5) 7:47 If by "decide I'm bored" you mean "attempt to kill myself," sure ;)
6) 8:20 It's not implied anywhere that Sans can stop Flowey. In his fight, he even guesses that it's the player's fault that everything ends, even if this is the player's first genocide run. The only awareness he has of Flowey is that occasionally Papyrus talks to a yellow flower. Sans' knowledge of time travel comes from his research with Gaster ("*our* reports showed") and studying quantum physics, and *possibly* from attempting it through Determination: "look. *i gave up trying to go back* a long time ago." However, there is no evidence that he maintains real memories when the player goes back to a Save Point, any more than Asgore or Flowey do when they say things they really shouldn't know.
7) 9:20 It's actually stated outright at the end of the genocide route that Chara awoke because of Frisk's Determination. This is crucial.
8) 11:34 Flowey has regained his ability to Save. Frisk no longer has this ability. The FILE LOADED messages refer to Flowey messing with you, which makes the battle somewhat tougher because of the way he queues up certain attacks before reloading.
9) 12:23 The implications of NarraChara are that Chara is watching your actions closely, to see if killing really is necessary as he had thought in life, not that he is a malevolent demon possessing Frisk. If the latter were true, the player would have *no choice* but to commit genocide. 10) 13:42 Flowey becomes terrified of Chara/Frisk because of his own determination to live, recognizing Chara as a threat, yet being totally powerless as he's lost the ability to Reset. He doesn't need to believe that Chara will kill him specifically, just that it's a possibility. He also has no reason to think Chara can destroy the world. (It's really not known how he is able to.)
Annotation question: I died to Asgore many many times, thinking that was the way to get him to spare me. Eventually I fought him, and then of course spared him and Flowey.
It's implied that Chara doesn't have control over Frisk, and so CAN'T force you into a Genocide route, but as you kill more monsters, they gradually gain more power until they are able to defy the player at the end of that route.
Also, Flowey at one point talks about Sans and outright says "He's caused me more than my fair share of resets." The conclusion seems pretty obvious.
It's not _just implied_ Chara has no control, it is 100% true Chara has no control (at first anyway) because YOU are the one in control. Chara is simply following along.

Implies that it always was Chara controlling the player, or, at least, in the timeline that sends you towards the genocide ending, as represented in the fact that the save points transform from the pacifist run, in the genocide one, being represented in red text for Chara's thoughts.

Chara was underground for at least a year because she fell down in the late fall, and they both made a Father’s Day card together for Asgore and there’s one old calendar in the drawers as well

This is my version of the story of Undertale:
Chara is bullied and took a knife, went to Mt. Ebott (so it looks like they disappeared) but fall into the Underground
They are adopted by the Dreemurs and everything is great.....until......
One day Chara found out that for the barrier to break it is needed 7 human souls. When they and Asriel incidentally poisoned Asgore with butter cups instead of cups of butter (they laughed it of, everyone does it in the game) and from that a idea was born. They will eat the butter cups so it looks like an incident, Asriel would take their soul to their village kill 6 more humans, free the monsters. Asriel did not fight and die. Asgore says that he will kill 7 humans and eradicate the rase of humans. Toriel, terrified by the plan, took Charas body and went to the ruins.
When Frisk falls on Charas grave their determination wakes them up and now the fate of the Underground and Chara is in your hands

This was nice, but Spero's explanation was slightly better. Not much has been explained about the intent of the humans, specifically the sages who created the barrier (or IMO made the monsters create the barrier as humans don't wield magic in Undertale). Have you considered doing a Seiken Densetsu timeline and explanation?
+Joelsuf I'd love to do a series on Seiken Densetsu (3 is one my my favourites ) but I'd need to play every entry in the series which I haven't done just yet. In time though, for sure 😊
I love the Chara bit! I really never thought that's how they started, by trying to kill Asgore. Of course the way I thought was more of a innocent mistake, then turned into a murderous intent

Actually, Chara's plan was for the monsters to NOT be trapped underground anymore. They poisoned themself, so that Asriel could take their soul, cross the barrier, get 6 more souls, and break the barrier. There is no proof of malicious intent.

That question is of no concern outside of the Soulless Pacifist route. So don't worry about your peace of mind being upended. Unless of course, you've already completed a Genocide run.

Hey, I just found your videos (started with Xenogears as my wife never played it and I am woefully unprepared to explain it to her). I really liked this video as well (she played Undertale while I didn't).
I know a lot of folks are asking about Legend of Dragoon and FF7, but the game that has me scratching my head story-wise, even after multiple playthroughs, is Final Fantasy Tactics. If you ever get a chance, please do an explanation video for that. Greatly appreciated! Keep up the great work.
Tactics has been asked for quite a bit. Honestly I haven't played it just yet, but its been on my list for years so maybe its time. Want to do a whole series on Ivalice :D
I would love to see a timeline connecting FFT, FF7 and FF12. The three are connected.
Frisk has DT before chara and when frisk falls onto the flowers maybe chara’s DT if she had any and Flowey didn’t leave the Underground because he knows that chara got put under the flowers that’s why he stays underground

I know why asgore and toriel named their son asriel because take as from asgore and take riel from toriel and put as and riel and you will get asriel. Smart

true lab was gasters and alphys built their lab on top of the old one (or redecorated it) after whatever happened to gaster

I've beaten Chrono Trigger so many times that one was a given but it was great to know still mixing with Cross cause that was a pain! But thanks man keep doing your thing if no one tells you its a big help to us all

Chara didn't try to poison asgore,as it's shown in true lab tapes that chara was laughing because that was a coping mechanism highly influenced by other monsters ;w;
