I've gone through hundreds and hundreds of videos looking for a tutorial that would walk me through the whole process of balayage/ombre/baby lights and where exactly to place the dye and what technic looks best on certain parts of your hair. This one does that perfectly. I don't mind watching a lengthy tutorial if it's showing me the proper way to do something beginning to end. Now I can go and delete the 50 videos I saved trying to piece together technics and directions because it's all here in 1 video.
I tried this yesterday and the results were lovely. I used aveda enlightener, starting with a virgin base in between 6&7, the merge was incredible, no lines no faults. And took me around 50 minutes to do as she had thick hair. The hair lifted no problem, so I just popped a 5 minute blonde gold toner (aveda) on at the backwash and we were good to go! A 12 year old girl, who wanted to go blonder = perfect technique! Really impressed, this is defo my new go to technique! Thank you!!!! 👍🏼
You just gained a subscriber . Loved your video . I just graduated from cosmetology school and my cousin has been asking me for a balayage and I finally found the perfect video thank you . (:
I have been searching for something simple with foils. Love this whole process. and who cares if you use a lot of foils?!!! It came out gorgeous! Ive been doing hair along time and this looks so natural! Great info!
Thank you for sharing on this video I think it's how you completes the sections & the foils are neatly placed. excellent foil replacement you make it looks easier and you have that clean techniques 👍👍👍👌👌👌👏👏👏
I got a little scared that you weren't going to show the end result😂 I have virgin hair and have been looking for a tutorial with someone who also had virgin hair and were pretty similar in color I'm pretty excited to finally dye mine now. Thank you!!
First I saw the Liberty shirt and freaked out because I went there for a couple of years then saw your aveda apron and freaked out again because I happen to be graduating from an Aveda Institute in a couple of months! Small world! Beautiful color and technique though!
Hey Lexi I just tried Vero lights by joint and it's really nice. Smells good for bleach lol. My brush of choice was one of this beveled type of craft sponges at Michaels . Came out nice 😄. And I didn't have to use 40 cool bc it was in foil vs plastic film. Thanks for sharing!!
Your work is beautiful! Just wondering why some hair stylists tease when using foils and others don’t? I thought teasing would diffuse demarcation. But yours came out perfect without. Could you give me your opinion please?
I'm still just a student, but she feathers upwards so softly with the brush and stays far away from the root, teasing is good for keeping a good blend when getting very close to the root. Also I think it's just preference. If you are very good at feathering the lightener up to make it so blended on its own you don't need to tease. Or you can add teasing just to add even more blend.
I wouldn’t have thought of an actual michael’s paint brush as a way to balayage! It’s genius! But how do you disinfect it? Can you still immerse it in barbecide without completely ruining it?
I like both types of brushes but i find this type of brush gives a very blended look. My bleach is a one to one ratio. Thats how I usually mix my bleach for both foils and if I were to leave it out.
How much bleach did you mix in order to achieve this look. I have much thinner hair than her, but it's about 3 inches longer. How much bleach do you think I would need?
Hi, I liked your video. I have a question, I am doing a violet balayage with a shadow root base . I was wondering if I could lighten the hair before applying any of the color, then add the dark base and violet ends and blend? Or do I need to do the shadow base first before lightening the ends?
I have some doubts, before I try, hope you can answer. With this technick wont be the frontal part lighter than the back? I mean its much longer time in the foil, or did you take them out earlier?
Li Ly I suggest always use a toner! It’ll give you great results.. a lot of people have used lightener and 20 developer will give you time to do your whole hair, for toner Wella pale ash blonde with 20 developer as well. Don’t listen to stylist who says you don’t need a toner.. they’re either lazy, another client right after you, or try to make you come in for a second session.. trust me I know I graduated cosmetology school.
If you know what you are doing, you shouldn't need a toner on a blonde highlight (unless of course you're doing silver or grey.) Do children who have natural blond highlights from the sun use a toner? @@piggywiggythepig678
When you did this process did you end up using 2 different lightners one lighter towards the end and in the middle alittle bit lower than that one? Or was it just one type volume lightner?
@lexidawn you know how when people do the bayalage and they don't saturate all the way so they get a more natural finish . My question is what happens to to the hair that isn't saturated like how do you avoid it from spotting. Please answer my question anyone 😞😞
+Genesis Loya when you are doing that you want to make sure you are only painting on the top of each section. Also if you tend to get spots my sure you are putting a barrier in between each section like a foil or cotton or plastic wrap.

I am a licensed cosmetologist. Try the pravana purple shampoo. It is so amazing getting rid of brasiness dramatically and non drying to the hair.

great results and fab video
very goooooood .. love it!
I wouldn’t have thought of an actual michael’s paint brush as a way to balayage! It’s genius! But how do you disinfect it? Can you still immerse it in barbecide without completely ruining it?
I've stopped using the chip brushes because they get ruined too quickly. I now use Framar's paint brush.
Wow what a great Job!
I just found your channel & love your work! Such helpful tips! What volume developer did you use in the front sections & the back, please?
And how long did she process for? Thank you for showing the whole process!
+Jenan Heaton aww thank you!! I used 20vol on both for this color process.
+Jenan Heaton she processed for about 20ish minutes. Just watch until you see pale yellow.
Love it!! Great technique. One of the best I've watched on YT!!
Lexi Daw
I like the brush you used. Is it easier than a tint brush? Is you're bleach consistency thinner when using foils as opposed to open air?
I like both types of brushes but i find this type of brush gives a very blended look. My bleach is a one to one ratio. Thats how I usually mix my bleach for both foils and if I were to leave it out.
Pretty! I like the actual paint brush tool. What bleach did you use?
I used verolight lightening powder by vero-k-pak also part of joico!
How long did it take you total time? The end result is gorgeous!
+Crystal Kelley I usually block out 3 hours for color
Thanks for sharing. It was very helpful and informative :)
What is your lightner choice?
what size of brush did you use. looks really nice
I’m new to all of this.. how long did you let the bleach sit when you were done, before washing it?
I need this brush!!! which one is it?
Can this technique be used with the teasing method as well? Thanks :)
How much bleach did you mix in order to achieve this look. I have much thinner hair than her, but it's about 3 inches longer. How much bleach do you think I would need?
+Rebecca Biddle i mixed up probably about a scoop and a half for her. You would probably need the same.
amaze!!! love
Hey there! Did you mix a hair color in with the lightner/bleach and 20 volume developer? or just the lightner plus 20volume?
+Candice Connors just lightener and 20vol
Love it....😍😍😍
When you paint it did you go thru the section with the lightener or just the top?Thank you
+LOUIS SANABRIA all the way through. Front and back of each section I lightened.

Hi, I liked your video. I have a question, I am doing a violet balayage with a shadow root base . I was wondering if I could lighten the hair before applying any of the color, then add the dark base and violet ends and blend? Or do I need to do the shadow base first before lightening the ends?
Depending on that look I would most likely lighten everything first.
