This is absolutely beautiful. I love how simple this is and how u shared that you use one toner for all over and a lighter toner for the bottom. Great results!
would have really liked to have seen the crown placement and face framing part. That is my hardest problem area. Ashame I couldn't see it but, nice job.
Yes Brad sorry about that it was the one section that I just couldn’t get anyone to film for me for a second I’ll do it again sometime on a different client and show the root area at the crown Keep an eye out that I’ll try and get it done in the next few weeks 😁👍🏻
The Life Of Hair no, don’t be. I was just scrolling videos and came across yours. Idk why but, I tend to get nervous about placement on top and if I do it right🤷🏻♂️You make great detailed videos. Hope I didn’t offend. Happy V Day!
I've used a similar technique. Mine never look as good though :(. My salon uses Matrix color. I'm going to try the P and N and N and V color combos. Would have loved to see how you did the front since this is the most important part of lightening for me. I love all your videos James and have used your techniques. Thank you!
Keep practicing, that’s the answer. Yes do those combs are two of my favourites 👍🏻 I just did the front the same as the back nothing changed. Hope that helps best J
Hello! I'm new to ur channel & absolutely love every one of your videos! I've been a hairdresser for almost 40 years (yikes somebody is getting old!) Anyway, I love learning, we never will know it all & much needed more helpful tricks, techniques, & tips! Thank you!!! Plus loving ur accent, too!
Thank you I love the results, I've seen a similar technique also be called "brazilian balayage"; I find it's great on coarse wavy/curly hair. On a warmer base, I find foils necessary.
Dude! Awesome technique! I love your way of thinking. Simple and effective techniques. You have a new follower her in NYC! Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Cheers!
I would love to see this in more detail. This looks perfect for people who are not great at foiling,, but I don’t know what sections to use, how to do the front, what colors would be best, etc. would you go into more detail and know what colors to use…
I'm a new subscriber! I love your videos, I find them so easy to watch, because you are very descriptive! I want to start using the techniques in the salon , I'm worried my results won't be as good as yours. X
At some point I will make another video on and show the roots who ever my videos aren’t not about how good I am might be at the technique they are there to guide and inspire others to try something new different I only show the end result because people like to see the effect of the technique. Hope that makes sense best James 👍🏻✌🏻
Dolly Parton I sooooo get what you are saying about the roots but you know smudging the roots with a similar base color as the clients hair and combining the smudged area to meet where your balayage begins helps alot. It makes the colors melt together beautifully!!
Thank you very much! If I can remember correctly it was sometime ago that I actually did this colour I think I used a combination of Redken shades EQ09 with 010 N or something similar like that
Absolutely stunning, I was looking for techniques on all over social media, found in your video. Client coming up for long , dark hair with lots of density. Took so much time in 1 st application, and was looking fast techniques. Ooo my god you the best. Thank you , loved it.which toner you used?

And i am finding that things have changed a ton! So i do need alittle help on formulas as we did a ton of dimensionals...roots with highlights...usually 20 vol lol. So long of the short i would love some formulas

It sure can be done with Sally's beauty supply items. If you are already level 4 and up it'll b easier vs being a level 2. But grab u one of the high lifting bleaches, a developer and sum Wella toners and u will be on your way!!! Good luck!!
It very much depends on how many points of light you would like to achieve I tend to go with around 3 to 6 cm in between each of my sections and always work to the natural part in
@@TheLifeOfHair I have a question please. Let's say I try this same technique on natural hair color level 2/3 and it lifts to a level 4/4.5 but I want them a 5/6 how can I lighten without turning my beautiful balayage pattern into a full blown ombre? Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏.
It very much depends on this particular technique I didn’t go all the way through the section but sometimes I do it will depend on hair density if it’s thick and there’s lots of hair then I tend not to dig too deep into the section and go all the way through where is it the hair is fine I want more hair in my section
Loved this end result, just would’ve like a bit more info. Did you face frame with babylights? What lightener did you use brand wise. What level peroxide do you use. Otherwise this was super super helpful.
Fantastic Sarah glad you loved the end result, No there was no face frame with baby lights in this particular instance the light that was just normal blue powder bleach mixed on a 1 to 1.5 ratio so 45 g of pro oxide to 30 g of blue powder bleach. Yes this wasn’t my most comprehensive video in times of the tutorial it was more of a showcase of the technique it was just some leftover footage that I’d found some way back when I used to do Instagram videos so I just messed it up for RUclips but I’m glad you found it useful nevertheless 😁👍🏻
2 quick questions. If I’ve been using a mixture of 5NN and 6NN w 20 developer always on my ever graying hair. 1) once I’ve got the regrowth colored...waited a week. Can I mix up 1/2 7NN and 1/2 developer to paint on and brighten my brown? 2) how do you frame face with mid nose length bangs/ the "money" term. Blending from shoulder length to bangs I think is difficult. Is there an easy answer? Cheers from Kentucky
Hi thanks for your question so in a nutshell using another tint to lighten up around your face won’t work because tint doesn’t lift tint you would have to go in with using bleach this can be very tricky is on yourself I hope that answers your question if it doesn’t please let me know questions
This could be the solution for me since my hair is vey fine, every time I go to the salon they tell me it won't look right because it's too hard to blend.
Yer I generally do that but I didn’t film the finish and the person who filmed it filmed in portrait and not landscape so I had to crop in post thus creating the tight images you see in this video ✌🏻
Did you add somewhere, what products you used, what volume of developer, which bonder? If so, I’ve missed it. Would you mind listing the items here? Thank you!! 👍
Thanks for the comment I used it was Redken power lift + 30 Vol If you’re unfamiliar with Redken power left it’s a cream-based Lightner with eight levels of lift, Toner wise it was Redken shades EQ 09N plus 09V and Bonder I think was either olaplex Or PH bonder. Best James
I love how you kept it simple for us instead of flooding us with so much info it's confusing. Results are beautiful! Well done. ❤
Can you add how you would do a brunette? I would love to see lightening, underlying pigment fixes and then completed look.

Can you show finished root and / or sections pattern???
If the hair is lighter, say a level 7/8 and you don't want as much blonde coverage for fear of losing contrast on a retouch will the 2 cm separation between sections still leave enough dimension? Or would you recommend another technique instead? Perhaps a few strategically placed brosse/balayage singles?

Hi,
Can I ask, when taking the sections working up the head, is it straight or diagonal sections you take?
Thanks
Hi thank you for your question the sections are horizontal in this instance you can take diagonal sections and it does give you an extra element of softness such as so wish 😁👍🏻
What color toners did you use?
I think if my memory serves me correctly it was Redken shades EQ0 9p +0 10 N
What kind of lightener was used to this lady?
Redken power lift and 30vol best James 😁👌🏻

CanDoesIt thank you for that much appreciated 👍🏻
So do you Brick layer each section?
Yes loosely
What level developer did you use?
20 volume
What are the partings for this technique??
It very much depends on how many points of light you would like to achieve I tend to go with around 3 to 6 cm in between each of my sections and always work to the natural part in
