Thank you. All great ideas. I use small clips to hold zipper to fabric and remove as I approach the needle. 👍🏼

Use stapler to hold zipper like I do in Saudi Arabia

Basting tape also acts as a water barrier doesn’t it? Makes sense to me to baste & double stitch

Great video! Creepy foot never seen one move like that!! I have a pfaff 4.0 and sewed over thin zipper tape and my needle broke. What am I doing wrong?

Do you have an example photo of what that is? Send it to eric@sailrite.com

I used this method to sew a zip into our sail cover - but I pinned the zip to the fabric to do the first seam - I think you could also use small pieces of basting tape at the match up points to ensure the zip was in the right place - though I haven't used basting tape yet on anything.

+Anne Parker You are correct! We have a new basting tape that sticks to Sunbrella and many other fabrics that is now much thinner for zipper applications. You can order it here: www.sailrite.com/Seamstick-1-4-Basting-Tape-for-Canvas-50-Yds

Would that be waterproof if it was up on a roof?

I wanted to see how you add a zipper to a mattress cover without the plaque procedure.I can't find a video that shows it.I do mattress covers often but usually do it like regular cushions.I would like to add it to the corner instead ...like they do on a suitcase.

I love this way of adding in a zipper, can it be used also on dresses?

What stitch length did you use please?

    • @SailriteDIY

When sewing canvas we try to use about a 6mm stitch length.

Sailrite Thank you, the stitch looks so beautiful. I recently bought an old Husqvarna Viking 6440 and after some maintenance and learning I’m quite happy with it but it doesn’t have a walking foot and the LSZ-1 still remains my dream machine. :)
