    I appreciate that you acknowledge how hard it is to cut off the prettiness. I always know it’s for the best but it’s difficult!

      So true! It does make it easier when you go in and just cut a third since you will still have some pretty flowers to look at.

    I just saw this!! Very informative, as mine look just like these, but they are flat on the ground, not in a basket. WHERE/WHEN can I see the update on how your petunias re-bloomed? I have never clipped mine, because I didn't know I was supposed to. Mine look like long green ladders with pink petunias at the ends, and they have been in full bloom 4 months! Thank you so much for this great video - geez, it's 3yrs old. Let me know when you did an update on this, please - thanks again. -New Gardener

      Cut your petunias back by a third to 2/3. Here is a video that shows some petunias that had been pruned back 3 weeks prior to filming. It is at the 3:33 time mark of the video: ruclips.net/video/JMeejk71VkU/видео.html Hope this helps!

      They are fun, aren't they? I have 6 feeders up and they all get used. The mamas line the babies up on the feeder then stand guard so no male will try and chase them away.

    I brought home a bundle of petunias from store full of blooms 4 days later going leggy already.
    Should I already start pruning back ?
    Feeding with miracle gro 24-8-16
    All purpose fertilizer.

    • @FlowerPatchFarmhouse
      @FlowerPatchFarmhouse  3 года назад +2

      Yes, you can start pruning them back already. That fertilizer is a bit high in nitrogen, you may want to scale back on it or get one that is more balanced. High nitrogen will cause lots of lush green growth.

      Wow, that is different. How about the new growth, is it suffering too? You must be in a much warmer area than I. Mine won't be blooming for another month or more.

    No offense! But I'm mortified at seeing all your dead blooms 😄 bc I go out every morning & cut off the wilted blooms so they don't go to seed. But... I wasn't sure where exactly to cut to prune the whole plant back. Thanks for your video! I'm going out to prune mine now. It's gotten really leggy, it's still full but, hanging over the edges of my pot somewhat. Time to cut back! ✂️ Have a great day!

      I deadhead as much as I can but I have a lot of plants that need dead heading so I make my rounds as I can. Some will get ahead of me but it is what it is. I don't want 😉

    I could not find the video of September to see what happened, but they looked in this video decimated. yellow leaves and I think you cut too much at once.

      I prune my petunias like this every year and it works just fine so it must not be too short. They don't mind a good prune at all. In fact the thumbnail photo is of a basket of petunias that has received the very same treatment and were in much worse shape...see this post: www.flowerpatchfarmhouse.com/reviving-potted-petunias/

      @@FlowerPatchFarmhouse Can I cut right to the level of soil because there is not a new growth that meets the stem. It is naked stem. I hope I don't kill that part.

      I dead head as needed, I love the length of Wave petunias and the ones I had this year are still blooming beautifully. I am not sure why you think I don't like the length of Wave petunias. Sorry that I am confused.
