- Dusty Springfield (Mary Isabel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien) ~ Wishin'and hopin'.
Greatest female voice of the past 50 years...
Old 60's footage remastered with digitally sound from the BBC recording studios.
This is my favorite from Mrs. Dusty Springfield! 💚💚💚
Mrs??
Mine too.
Dusty Sppringfiled had an outstanding voice, and she was very elegant and had very nice hairdos. I liked to see her sing on TV, she was so pretty.
This was one of the greatest songs of the 60’s. My God how simple life was. AM radio with only one speaker was all we needed.
Dusty was truly the best from Britain. ❤️❤️❤️
your memory is distorted. mostly the music on the AM radio was crud.
@@ellenrosenblatt5463 Thank you Nurse Ratchet.
Totally agree!
AM radio did play all the greats
Love this song. It reminds me of a man I loved many decades ago. Sadly he's gone now but my memories are still with me.
For me, this is the definitive version of this song as sung by Dusty Springfield.
Great song! Love the back up vocals and those horns! What an arrangement!
Riding my bike with my transistor radio listening to Dusty Springfield was an escape from reality.
Dusty was something special in my generation, yes we were radical for those times, but Dusty was someone we listened to after walking along the beach collecting drift wood for our fire, fishing rods out, guitars strumming before a night with friends singing around the campfire we had made. Fish, steaks, potatoes, toast, lots of grog. The cops used to come down & make sure all were ok & sometimes they used to join us for a beer & a song. We always wondered into the ocean with our empty King Browns ( Big Beer Bottles ) fill them up with sea water & make sure the fires were out so that no one would burn their feet the next morning. Simple times as young people with great music. Sadly those times have gone because of a minority , to have a beer/wine now attracts a $200 fine. God help you if you light a fire. What can i say but. Once upon a time there was a tavern. Those were the days my friend.
+bob harrison I remember those days you speak of. Upon graduation we went to Alki Beach to celebrate a little, we had a little fire maybe some beer and soda, police came to check us out just once no hassles among us or from anyone else.... But about this song... when this song was out, young women were ladylike and not hanging all out for attention- their voices held you. girl groups, Eartha Kitt, Barbara Lewis, Barbara Mason, Dionne Warwick, Diane Renay, Mary Wells, and Petula Clark. There were many Folk music was on the rise and Aretha broke into the scene soon. Bless them all they brightened our lives didn't they?
bob harrison Yeah dude. It's sad that a few wrecked it for the many. Dusty Springfield is special somehow.
@@cameronadair4135 what a very sad comment …. I truly hope your outlook/life has improved since you made it. Be well , be happy.
I can relate and as I read my smile got bigger, thank you
what a great memory...im in my late 40s and long for those times..
the music was magical.
What a fabulous voice! One of her best
What a shame playback
Wow beautiful singer and lyrics. 💕👏🍀
RIP Dusty, you were one of the best.
One of the best ever female voices.
Dusty Springfield was the best. The more I hear and see her the more I like here. I remember this song on a 45rpm record and it was new!
Dusty was one my favorite singers and her brother , Tom Springfield wrote I’ll never find another you by the seekers , another of my favorite songs
Brings back memories of my youth and school and family.
Dusty, what a doll. Five foot nothing, blind as a bat, flat chested. But what a voice,eh? Loved her for 65 years ❤
lots of great high school memories with this song... life was so different back then
Yes a time of discovery, such a great time in life and a time that will resonate throughout your life , cherish 🌹🌹🌹❤️
You said a mouth full SusieQ128! 💎
Jak słucham DUSTY SPRINGFIELD, to dostaje gęsiej skórki.
Good advice for anyone who needs true love. And don't give up until you find it. Because it's out there, waiting for your true heart.
Boy, what a singer!
Loved Dusty, miss her to this day
Every day is "Dusty Day."
Me, too.
Love this song from Dusty🎤🎼
I sure do miss the 70s and 80s. The music today is not even the same. Sometimes I wish I could find a time machine and go back in time. Life was much easier and everyone enjoyed life! Is this your favorite song?
Beautiful voice
And gorgeous woman except hair
One of my favorites of the sixties of last Century. And Dusty did an excellent version of this song sung initially by Dionne Warwick. One of those songs that are so good they are timeless really.
Also the Merseybeats covered it well; a very gentle version.
@@rohansrider Well thanks for the info, I shall hear it. Regards.
Absolutely gorgeous voice, dancing, and beautiful Woman!
Could listen to Dusty all day x x x x x
I loved this song. Always wished someone would feel that way about me. She did, but cancer took her after only 34 years together.
So sorry, David. May she R.I.P.
I don't get it David? What are you saying?😇
MISS HER AND HER VOICE!
60s the decade of the best music ever
My favorite of her songs.
dusty wishin and hopin. love it from back in my day
Dusty Springfield(April 16th,1939-March 2nd,1999).!
I,m in love every time I see and listen to Dusty.
I am reminded about this great song after watching an ep of Ted lasso and had to look it up again ❤
Jimmy Page played the guitar on this. He was a 22 year old session guitar player in London from 1962-65.
Richard Gablick absolutely we're talkin total professional song You songs were number one hits because they were saying and done by professionals
Dusty Springfield, who had heard the Warwick album track, recorded "Wishin' and Hopin'" in January 1964 at Olympic Studios. (The eclectic list of musicians who recorded there include the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and the Beatles) Personnel for the session included Bobby Graham on drums, Big Jim Sullivan on guitar, and the Breakaways vocal group. Ivor Raymonde arranged and conducted on the session.
I never knew that.
That's funny. I was just thinking how much this Springfield song has in common with Led Zepplelin's "Black Dog".
I was 15 when it was a tophit. And Now its Christmass 2019 and we hop trough the room.
Remember my sister playing this on a record player when I young, always loved it
thats lovely
DUSTY SPRINGFIELD, uważałem i uważam JA za najlepszą wokalistkę świata. DZIEKUJE !!!!!!.
Just the best
Beautiful singer and song. I saw her and the Merseybeats in concert and she wore a short skirt.
Wishin' and hopin' and thinkin' and prayin'
Plannin' and dreamin' each night of his charms
That won't get you into his arms
So if you're lookin' to find love you can share
All you gotta do is hold him and kiss him and love him
And show him that you care
Show him that you care just for him
Do the things he likes to do
Wear your hair just for him, 'cause
You won't get him
Thinkin' and a-prayin', wishin' and a-hopin'
'Cause wishin' and hopin' and thinkin' and prayin'
Plannin' and dreamin' his kisses will start
That won't get you into his heart
So if you're thinkin' of how great true love is
All you gotta do is hold him and kiss him and squeeze him and love him
Yeah, just do it
And after you do, you will be his
You gotta show him that you care just for him
Do the things he likes to do
Wear your hair just for him, 'cause
You won't get him
Thinkin' and a-prayin', wishin' and a-hopin'
'Cause wishin' and hopin' and thinkin' and prayin'
Plannin' and dreamin' his kisses will start
That won't get you into his heart
So if you're thinkin' of how great true love is
All you gotta do is hold him and kiss him and squeeze him and love him
Yeah, just do it
And after you do, you will be his
You will be his
You will be his
Nice! I've never heard of this version before. Since I've watched the opening scene of My Best Friend's Wedding at many times.
Love these memories . I tore through the streets of Phoenix with a 1964 Plymouth sport Fury with 440 magnum under the hood, yup am radio, of course.
Fantastic interpretation! I like it so much that I made a cover of this song in my RUclips channel.
lovely !!
Brilliant.
Not only memories of the wonder years but to be young with your life ahead of you, unspoiled to the realities of today.
I was 13 or 14 when this came out in 1965 I lost a girlfriend I was really really in love with.I love my Wife now but devastated then!!.
Great song
This song was me back in the 60's for a certain guy...… then when he asked me out I was so nervous I blew it.
WISHIN AND HOPIN Now This Takes you Back To The Good Ole Days ON THE WEST COAST We Had KFRC & KYA Radio San Francisco The City By The Bay .......

The text ends ". . . you will be his" No sane man would ever exchange Ms. Springfield for somebody else.
The Best! Yeah, Dusty!
Ja uważam DUSTY SPRINGFIELD za najlepszą wokalistkę świata.
J aime beaucoup cette chanteuse bisous de Montréal au Québec Canada😘😗😘😗
Methinks Petulla Clark had a bigger beehive. But love Dusty's singing anyway. Dame Edna says she on the top ten of all female singers in the world. Wondeful, possums!
love this♥️🌟✨
The Brits had a group of these crooners in the sixties, - Dusty, Petula Clark,Sandy Shaw,Cilla Black,Lulu,Helen Shapiro, and more...
Great stuff, from a great decade of music.
Dusty and Petula were the only two Brit solo female artists to make it big in the US. Dusty did alot of collaboration with legendary songwriter Burt Bacharach. He wrote this song for her
@@lindaeasley5606 interesting.
And surprised only Dusty/Petula made it big in the US.
Although,I shouldn't be - I mean,no one made it big in the USA,until a certain band from Liverpool:))
Amo esta canción de lujo 💕
I keep wishin' and hopin' the world will be a better place. Maybe more people should too.
One of my favorite song from the British Invasion, didn’t know that it was written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, Check out Mary Lou by the Creative Force. Amazing
Mario Saldana, I think Burt Bacharach wrote Just about Everything back in those days.
It’s amazing how prolific he was. Most have no idea. Jingles too.
Burt Bacharach wrote many of her songs I do believe along with composing other songs for other artists as well.
Take more than that love , this day and age
+danny c : And a good thing, too. "Wear your hair just for him"? "Do the things he likes to do"?
K-Earth 101 in Los Angeles From Hollywood To Downtown in my dad's Chevy Scottsdale. Rip dusty .
Please play Dusty for me!
She always gave more hands when she mimed, This is Dusty at her fabbiest. I used to think she was the most beautiful woman in the world. I still do!
Who ever sings like this has to have a nice voice
❤️❤️❤️Dusty❤️❤️❤️
Nostalgia
I do love her. I wish she'd been able to be a bit happier in life.
Love Dusty.
Very good duster all ways been very good love ❤😂🎉
This is not the Original Song. The song was first recorded by Dionne Warwick and was the B-side of Warwick's single "This Empty Place" ...
big hit on kjr radio in seattle
stupenda :-)
stylish looking bangs haircut!
I like this song. Good rithm, so catchy, and the words are typpical of the teenage or adolescent stage...I realized that today the song would not be approved by the radical ideology, that condemns many cultural expresions... never mind. Thanks Tailgate. It's a nice song
A lot of people think she was from Memphis, or at least born here in the USA. She's actually British and first became famous there.
Al escuchar esta cancion deseando y espera ndo regreso a la secundaria 1968.
so cute
👏👏👏
Muy best friend wedding!!!
RIP Burt Bacharach
BUT, this AUDIO is NOT the LIVE VIDEO!!! WHERE IS IT????????
I 💗her
I was in jr high love her
They used to refer to her as "Ol' Black Eyes" (a play on Frank Sinatra being known as "Ol' BLue Eyes") because she wore that rather heavy, panda-bear mascara around her eyes, which was copied by many young women who subsequently got in trouble if they worked at certain priggish firms...
The very best along with Helen Shapiro
paul casini yes she was a professional when she sang the songs that's why they were so good!
I don't know how often the throw away my blood pressure "Golden After 50" ad play before this video. My question is, why does RUclips allow potentially dangerous or even deadly non- medical advice or products to be shown on their platform? RUclips should be held legally liable for the ads they allow.
💞💞💞💞💞
Written by the greatest songwriting team of the past 500 years - Burt Bacharach and Hal David!
Doug Helms that’s a stretch, but they are pretty good.
Love Bacharach - David - not a stretch - the songs are immensely powerful and durable
My Original Baby
I like this song because I first heard it on will & Grace sung by Matt Damon.
Heard it on Sex Education
i'm just here bc of wendy hahaha
That dress is, at first glance, deceptively simple. It is upon proper review, a breathtakingly exquisite wonder! I wouldn't be at all surprised if this were say, a Dior Couture. I would die and go to eternity a happy woman if I could have worn that dress in my prime to an appropriate occasion. I can't think of anything that would make me feel more alluring, more beautiful, more Feminine Devine!
(WARNING!
POLITICAL STATEMENT!
And yeah, because I hate being misunderstood and social media is so well known for that, I wish to point out I could just as easily have said Feminist as Feminine Devine but I chose the latter based on its poetic value and imagery potential, ok? There, that wasn’t so bad, was it?!)
Ps:
But yeah, the song, no, just certain lyrics are cheesy, pop, and are now widely accepted as outmoded, even unethical, game playing techniques hopefully not used by or promoted to young girls today. But that pitch perfect golden voice?
Definitely an iconic sound of the day. She had a Singular Sound everyone loved.
Sorry to disappoint Kimberley but not all of us think the sentiments expressed in this song are outdated. I am one of those who still cherish traditional values and have no wish to abandon the ways of the natural order of our species that have served us well over many centuries. The social attitudes prevalent in the 1960’s represented the zenith of our social development as a nation and we’ve been on a descending trajectory ever since - as evidenced by the mess in which what is left of our society finds itself in today. Even now, as we make our way through the early 21st century, I still believe it’s not too late to turn back the clock and restore our society to it’s 1960’s heyday and strongly believe that this is what we should do. I fully endorse the traditionalist principles portayed here, live and conduct myself accordingly and would readily encourage other women to reject the socially destructive ideology of the era of “political correctness” and return to being what nature created us to be.
Where I do agree with you though is that Dusty Springfield was a truly remarkable talent. Many thousands of people have released records over the years, different types of music, different sounds and styles, each with their own indivdual attributes. It is a near impossible task to pick out just one person and definitively say "that is the best there has ever been" but in my opinion Dusty Springfield was that person. For me, she was the best singer ever to pick up a microphone and probably always will be. I don't expect to see anyone better in my lifetime.
Liza .1919 You have an interesting take on the 60’s, to be sure. Referring to the multi-faceted tumultuous upheaval of that decade calling for change all across the country as evidenced by scores of civil rights marches; NOW demonstrations where women were only asking for inclusion in (thereby gaining legal protections enjoyed from within) the Constitution & were finally ready to ask and work for what they needed in life, no longer content to merely follow someone else’s template for how they “ought” to live, they wanted a “choice” just like you do, and it was this desire for change which inevitably led to a dramatic rise in divorce because it refused to be met with reason or even compassion, so women decided they had to go; we suffered the shocking news of the Kent State shootings; riots and police actions against citizens, cities burned across this country for two solid years; numerous civil and voting rights reform legislation Finally passed after (only!) 100 years of so-called freedom; anti-Vietnam Nam war demonstrations on campuses and in cities everywhere on a weekly basis intended at educating the public & bringing our boys home from an unjust war in a place no one had ever heard of and couldn’t even find on a map, & for the first time in history more men were coming home without body parts or fully functioning mental faculties, many were also addicts as a result, but all in higher numbers than the actual death count, a “problem” our vets still face today only now the suicide rate is actually higher than the deaths by combat and today’s technology makes it seem so “easy” to just get new and improved arms or legs; then there were the assassinations of some of the greatest social reform leaders of the day, like President John F. Kennedy followed by his brother, Bobby, Martin Luther King Jr, Malcolm X, and Medgar Evers, some of which put the entire country in mourning, some sent people into a great downward spiral losing all hope, and some just got people real, real angry. So many, far too many, countless, nameless others who literally gave blood, sweat, tears, life, and limb to secure their rights for their children’s future. Would you do any different?
So when you called the 60’s “the heyday of social values” it was like hearing a brand new perspective for me. I’d be interested to know what you thought was so wonderful about this period as opposed to what was just swept under the carpet and kept hidden from others due to the very real fear of social stigmas, taboos, being labeled anti-social or just plain weird.
After all, if history has shown us anything it’s shown that being ostracized by society for not falling into line with the morays of the day can sometimes get you into trouble, seriously hurt, - or even killed.
Ps: I love me some Dusty, too, she’s iconic, but the best singer Ever? No. No, sorry, I can’t agree with you there. There are too many other very fine and talented singers. Are you even considering women like Barbra Streisand, Sarah Brightman, Celine Dion, Nina Simone, Maria Callas, Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole, Joanie Mitchell, Billie Holiday, and I know I’m forgetting at least half a dozen of the more obvious greats?!
Look, everybody has a favorite, and I applaud that. If Dusty’s it for you, then that’s cool and I wouldn’t try to change your mind about your own tastes, I just wanted to check to see if you were holding up the spotlight on All the greats, is all.
You should check out Eva Cassidy if you haven’t. She has a crystal clear beautiful singing voice you might enjoy. She does a lovely version of Over The Rainbow! Enjoy!
@@Liza-kl9sm I agree with you on all points
Burt Bacharach wrote this for Dusty
