@@BigHairyGuitars Yeah same Joe Naylor who designs Reverend guitars! :) Though he doesn't own the brand anymore, he designed and made the original amps.
The Naylor SD60 is the one I’m in love with. Especially what Dave Friedman did when he made the Friedman Naked 😍(basically the preamp of the Naylor with the power section of a Marshall lead 100) Killer tone ! This sounds cool as well.
Thanks for chiming in on that detail.....I'd heard Friedman had something to do with the Naylor's voicing? Loved Billy's APC naked sound. I read Dave designed the Pre-amp for Budda Superdrive series too. I would love to own a SD60!
One of my favorite all time favorite Amps. A friend of mine owned a store here in CT and had a bunch of these back in the late 90’s. All the Naylors had great clean tones and lead tones.
Honestly, I think this is one of the best sounding amps you have reviewed thus far. It's awesome. I want one. The reverb sounds nice, the cleans are great and it's got some big balls when you turn it up.
I don´t want to seem an ass kisser but every time I start to see your videos I know I´m going to be open mouthed a half an hour, what a tone you have man!!! And the quality of your recordings are astounding, I almost can "touch" the amp!! Thanks Michael
Yeah man! I've been so pleased with my Naylor Dual 60 that I've been out of the amp market for the last decade. Being content in a gear category still feels strange to me.
@@benpeasley6394 sure, I will take a stab at that.... :) The Naylor Super Drive 60 amp was originally designed by a guy named Danny Russell from Detroit (i.e., he runs Blitz Amplification). From when the SD60 was first introduced (i.e., '94 I believe), through to the very late 90's (i.e., '99), the SD60 went through a few updates, to tweak its performance. One of the last updates was the use of a dual-gain-stage pot, which was incorporated by Guy Hendricks, when he worked at Naylor. I think even Bruce Egnater may have been involved to some extent, for a short period of time, at some point....not 100% sure on that! Dave Friedman was modding Naylor amps for LA session guys, to allow the amp to have a "second" channel (i.e., this very basic clean tone used the "low" input on the amp). By this time, Joe Naylor had sold the company to a guy named Kyle Kurtz (i.e., the Naylor accountant), and Dave was doing so many 2-channel mods to the SD60, they they decided to make a new model called the "Duel 60", which had the mod built-in. Kyle then disappeared around 2000 (i.e., without filling all of the order, from what I recall), and Naylor was non-existent until Dave King resurrected it in Texas in the mid-2000's.....the amps are made EXACTLY the same way today, and I think they even have new models as well. As far as the Budda Super Drive 30, I remember Dave saying that Budda approached him to work with them on an amp design, and Dave did the preamp for the SD30.....a least I think that was it.....Other than that, it was a different amp, with a similar name. Dave was the guy who initially told me about the Naylor amps, and since I live about 3 hours away (i.e. in Ontario, Canada), I called Kyle, and he stayed late on a Friday, so that I could drive down and check out the amps, in exchange for a case of some Canadian beer! This was spring or summer of '98... While I was there, I met a girl named "Kat" who was the one who actually did all of the wiring for the Naylor amps. She was a cool, cute, Joan-Jett-type punk rock chick.....super nice too! I brought my own guitar, and one of my own Pacific Woodworks V30 cabs (i.e., think Bogner cube). Kyle thought that the closed-back cab sounded much better than the Naylor partial-open-back 2x12, and I completely agreed..... For me, this amp is so unique.....there is nothing quite like it. It is smooth, and dynamic at the same time, and great mids. Hope that helps....Cheers! :)
I have an old Naylor EV-38 Tri-Tone Custom (1x12+2x10) from -97. It always manages to sound both thick AND cutting, and I hear that quality here too. It's an addictive tone, and also requires a lot from the player too. Loud as f*** and gets that way very quickly too (who knows, maybe they've changed pot curve since those days). Not a bedroom amp :D Love mine.
I dug it! You nailed all those tones! I really liked the stratty KWS vibe! Hum buckers worked for me too with it. Short and sweet video. Would love to hear it boosted with classic clipping circuits. In fact I think that it would be a great idea for anybody demoing amps, to have a small board with a rat, boss super overdrive, and blues driver, a tube screamer and or a nobles. Etc...etc... A Klon clone! Especially if you got a real one though lol! Basics we all know and love to use!
Michael I just bought the kemper stage and I don't know what I want my first dowload to be either your ada mp1 or soldano. Coming to your profiles first though for sure.
