    Josh , the footage in this video is just incredible and so beautifully shot ! You did such an amazing job showing us how vast in nature Yellowstone is and every image was more remarkable than the one before it . That MOOSE was hard to believe along with the herds of bison and if that wasn’t enough let’s finish off with these bears ! All truly amazing ! Another stellar , thoroughly enjoyable video ! I’m so grateful you took us along .

I was able to see a variety of wildlife like black bears, grizzlies, bisons, coyote, bighorn sheeps, elks, etc. The only animal that I did not spot was the wolf. Amazing places and can't wait to return.

    Hi Josh, we are leaving next week to spend a few months traveling around Yellowstone. Like you, we boondock. Last year we spend most of our time on the West side BD’ing in Island Park. This year we are planning the NE park entrance around Cooke City.
    Can you tell me if the BD’ing area at Pilot Creek is ok and open after the floods. From your videos, seems your right near that area. Also, any other options around Cooke. Keep up the great work. You have me about ready to pull the trigger on a camera setup. Our iPhone+spotting scope setup is difficult to take great pictures with.

      Hi! Thanks so much for stopping by! You are totally correct, and we were right by Pilot Creek. There is a small spot on the north side of the road also thats wonderful. Both spots are totally still open! The Lamar Valley side of Yellowstone has some significant damage though. When we were there, they were shutting down NE ENTRANCE ROAD at night, to do blasting to fix the road, so thats something to keep in mind also.

    I completely understand what you mean by feeling like a “roadside” wildlife photographer. I remember going to Cades cove in Tennessee, driving the loop and competing with other travelers and feeling a little rushed. Unfortunately sometimes we have to do what we can to get a great shot. I still always love backpacking trails and open fields and coming acrossed candid moments in nature.

    Just my opinion, but people who feel like it's cheating I think often take it for granted what we as a country have available AND someone's ability to see such things financially/physically speaking. There are plenty of people who would love to be able to see the park and this video might be as close as they get. You could always hike out into the woods at YS... might also be the last hike you do lol. :)

    • @FoxandFir
      @FoxandFir  Год назад +2

      I totally understand where you are coming from. I think I feel that way, because where I live (South Eastern Wisconsin) For every 20-30 hours of hiking and being in the woods, I might have 3-4 minutes with an animal to photograph. Where when I'm in a national park, I can essentially drive up to almost any species I want and capture amazing footage. I think it's from years of struggling to find anything at all. But thats just me. I love our National Park system, and I love that its very accessible for millions of people.

    I don’t understand why we as photographers do this to ourselves. Why do we feel like we need to suffer or struggle for something to be worthy?
    Isn’t it about creating an aesthetically pleasing image by using our skills while enjoying our time outdoors?
    Some of the nicest photos I’ve seen were done with little effort at all, and as the viewer we wouldn’t even know that.
    It’s the same with portrait photography. Some people don’t value good shots unless there’s an elaborate lighting setup and all the rest, when sometimes simple is just as awesome.
    We tend to judge based on the investment made to get the shot rather than the shot itself.
    Personally I’m here to take and make great shots by whatever method, not to make investments of time, money or effort; and to enjoy the experience and appreciate the resulting image.

    • @FoxandFir

      Oh it’s the same here in Wisconsin. Thats why I felt like I was doing something wrong, or cheating with seeing all the animals. I spent weeks in search for a good composition, and in Yellowstone there is one at every turn.

    What’s the full camera setup in this vid?

    • @FoxandFir
      @FoxandFir  Год назад +1

      It’s a canon R5, a canon 400mm 2.8 IS II, and I switch between a bare 400, and a 1.4 TC, 2X TC. The vlogging camera is a canon R6, with a RF 24-70 2.8 IS. I have since moved on from a R5 to R3, and the R5 is now my vlogging camera, along with a 15-35 2.8 IS

    By the way there’s a lot of free music. You might one to change it up once in awhile😊

      Thanks for stopping by. Actually Music is not free, and needs to be licensed to be used on RUclips, or its a copyright infringement.

    In most cases that I have came across the wildlife are much more relaxed around photographers in spots where they encounter humans all the time. You hike out to the middle of no mans land and the 1st time you make a human noise and the wildlife runs off ASAP.

      Thats my experience too, I was just shocked that they let me get so close, with almost no care in the world

    Hey man! Beautiful video! May I know what is the sleeve you used for your gitzo gimbal with the converter pouch?

    • @FoxandFir
      @FoxandFir  Год назад

      Thanks so much! The gimbal wrap is just a lenscoat that they made for that specific gimbal. And the converter pouch is just an sold canon pouch that I had laying around 😂
