I really love that "worst songs of x decade" format Its a great way for you to talk about music you usually don't talk about, even if its a reused format it doesnt feel recycled because it gives you the opportunity to talk about all different types of songs
I fuck with Party Rock because my son was around 1 and would dance to it while holding himself up against the couch. Song is so so but it's associated to fond memories.
Was a waitress at a strip club in the early 2010s and that Like A G6 song was played in heavy rotation while girls with bad hair extensions and furry boots attempted pole tricks between Xrated and Vegas bomb shots
I think the first time I heard that song was as the background music to a Total Drama fanfic slideshow on RUclips back when my dad lent me his old laptop.
There's something so nice about, after a long night up worrying about personal stuff, Finn swooping in with an upload full of both good and bad nostalgia to brighten my mood in a dark time. Thank you for this, man.
Brilliant video. I do argue that 2008-2013 were the darkest greyest time in music. Nobody knew quite what anyone wanted, so literally everything was thrown at the creative wall and called it modern music.
Before I play the video, about the 2010s: My friend and I talked about musical decades and I said the 2010s has been the worst one by far. He disagreed, told me I was capping, so I sang "Now I'm feeling so fly like a G6" to him. Never have I seen a man changing his entire opinion so quickly.
I worked in a phone store in the 2010's and i remember being so dissapointed where the LG G6 came out and they didnt use "Like a G6" in their marketing.
Oh god, the 2010's. Where culture went to shite. Every song had that plodding beat and anthemic feel. 🤮 And I disagree about innocence. This is the decade when social media infiltrated everything, internet completely monetized, also internet became readily available in pockets, everybody's selfies were leaked, kids introduced to mature subjects way too early, profanity became prominent in pop music (I've no problem w/ profanity, just stating it in regards to innocence), incel culture became a thing, mental health issues became glorified, etc etc etc (Yul Brynner voice).
The way the whole Sorry for Party Rocking album had a chokehold on my life in 2012 is like a fever dream...I was the flower woman (yep) in my SIL's wedding and as I walked down the aisle to a normal wedding song there was a record scratch to a LMFAO song. Insanity. Street Meat. Sexy and I Know It. Legendary.
The 10s were full of cringe-spritational songs: - Fight Song from Rachel Platten - Unstoppable from Sia - High Hopes from PAtD - Roar/Firework/etc etc from Katy Perry - Thunder from Imagine Dragons The list goes on...
What happened was the 2000s had a sound and then in 2008 low by Flo Rida got huge like just the biggest song of 2008 and everyone from 2008-2011 wanted to make that song so we got just like hundreds of party songs that sounded like they were from 2008 then in 2012 when fun. blew up that’s when the era of indie rock (that wasn’t really rock) car commercial music started
I know you spoke a little bit about the Marlboro Man line and I just wanted to give that line its props. I really hope Billy Ray wrote that line. Marlboro used to do a thing where on the side of their cigarette packs they had a portion you could rip off called "5 miles". When you got enough of these little pieces you could trade them in for a bunch of free stuff. When I was a kid my mom used to take me on walks and when we would go out walking and she would see empty Marlboro cigarette packs on the ground she would always pick up the pack and take the 5 me off amd saved them and got MAD free stuff. It was very bizarre to me as a kid because she didn't smoke at the time. Then later on when I was like 17 or 18 she saw me smoking and thought it looked either cool or appealing and then became a cigarette smoker which is very bizarre because she was like 50.but thats a whole other story In any case, kudos Billy Ray i love that bar
Now I really want to go back to the 2010s. S*** was really fun, corny and cringeworthy and not just music wise but also the culture and the internet side of things.
When I worked at McDonald's the managers of a few locations in our district made a parody music video over the fergalicious beat called burgalicious. I never respected anything they said to me after that.

5:55 I got completely wasted for the first time in 2010 and we were playing like a G6 all the time back then. The first of many times I would wake up the next morning and say “I’m never drinking again”. Eventually it came true though
Finn, come on, man. Literally like 12 people said Old Town Road wasn't country. I don't get why you paint Americans as racist based on like 0.0000001% of people having a different opinion
The 1970's Were Much Worse It Gives Me a Icky Rapey Racist unsafe feeling and I saw every All In The Family episode with Rocky 1 & 2 at the side but I would like to star In Bobbi Jo and The Outlaw alongside OG Wonder Woman Lynda Carter mostly for a certain Sex Scene I've seen a bunch of times honestly
I used to work at a tmobile call center in Maine that made their own version of Old Town Road as part of corporate talent show….absolute top cringe, but funniest shit in the world
The best thing about Old Town Road is that Trent Reznor is still earning royalties from it and won a country music award just because of the sample from NIN
It’s hilarious how it’s got like the SLIGHTEST bit of twang in its overall tone and with enough other random country “inspired” ideas LOOSELY slapped onto it, they accepted it as one of their own. Like a gay wolf and a goth industrial wolf got together in one of those costumes where one is the head and front legs and the other is the back half and truly became wolves in sheep’s clothing 😎
Old Town Toad blew up on TikTok, but the song that blew up TikTok came out a year earlier when Drake released "In My Feelings" which instantly became a meme with everyone posting videos of themselves reciting the lyrics along the sides of roadways.
My favorite thing is that essentially the club anthem of the early 2010s, that “I Know You Want Me” song with Pitbull, is now a toilet paper commercial. It’s a song that makes you envision jiggling bare butts, not jiggling charmin bear butts.
One of my favorite bits of trivia about Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" is that Trent Reznor won a CMA award because OTR used a sample from one of NIN's "Ghost" tracks.
Finn, so glad to see you've risen above the funk you were in. Any RUclips video that starts with "OK my friends..." is always going to be a banger! Keep banging away mate, the latest videos have been awesome.
What we really need is a overtly in depth video on "Car Commercial-core" and other oddly specific subgenres that are to be exclusively played through Skullcandy Audio. God, the 2010s were just something else.
LMFAO is one of my go to to test tracks to stress my studio monitor/room for farting out/low end smear etc. Farting out and smear... I'll be suprised if the bots allow this icomment. Also Angelspit Grind is a good low end clarity tester.
That was an atrocious take by Finn. Literally about 12 people in a country of 330 million said Old Town Road wasn't country lol. Talk about Finn painting with a broad brush.
Probably the worst decade of music. Started out decent, but by the end of the 2010s, it was just a mess. Way too much electronic music and elevator/walmart music. Only a handful of decent pop artists and only 1 subgenre that really innovated anything (emo rap). Although our Lord and Savior MGK hailed from this decade, and since MGK literally invented music and the guitar and the universe, it was the greatest decade ever. Also, even though Fly Like a G6 was incredibly cringe, the beat was so awesome. They should have just made it an instrumental and it would have still held up well. Maybe another better rapper could sample it.
2010s had some peak music moments to me. The 1975’s self-titled in 2013, ANTI by Rihanna in 2016, and legitimately anything Charli XCX put out. I don't even remember anything else. 😂
I did find myself feeling weirdly nostalgic for the early 2010s the other day. I think it's because I hear "Call Me Maybe" and "Royals" on the radio at work every day. Not complaining
2010s were so cringe looking back. Nothing aged well I haven’t listened to anything in that era in awhile. But I love the purity. 2011 is def the 04 of 2010s. 04 was off the rails!
Ahhh like a G6, was the song playing in the background on NYE when I found out my ex-fiance was with her boss for about a year, good ol Gamestop employee shenanigans, forever scarred 🤣 non ironic banger now but
Oh man…that Party Rock Anthem song is so awful. Makes me want to smash the radio every time someone plays it to this day. LMFAO should have come with an expiration date since it was so obvious their time was ticking right from the jump. 🤦🏻♂️
The 2010s were awesome. Yeah it was cringe af but the vibes of those years were absolutely immaculate and the world legitimately became much smaller with how social media evolved throughout the decade. It was also the first decade where we had easy access to on the ground footage of historical events. Like imagine if 911 happened in 2016 how many iPhone videos would have been posted all over Twitter
“But then everyone said it wasn’t country and you can guess why” lol no, it’s not a country. It has ukulele trap beat and lyrics are bout horses and shiet but it doesn’t make it country at all. Even BR Cyrus additional verse doesn’t change that Same if you use piano beat it doesn’t make it contemporary classical all of the sudden. Unless you want to play a race card again that is
Offtopic - how do I know, if a girl is a lesbian or bisexual? She is in her early 20s, wears Vans, men's baggy clothes. Short pony hair, thick rings and has THAT SAME EARRINGS as Lil Nas X in the Old Town Road video - the one, which is long and the short on the right ear. Are those strong points leading to her being homosexual?
I can't believe how little I miss the 2010s... XD never used vine, never used tumbler or any apple products and I think I first heard of Party Rock Anthem when it was several years old. Like if someone asked me about a specific thing that was big in the 2010s I couldn't name one thing...
The 2010s was the time when still existing 'rock' bands had to replace their instruments to weird, anthemic stomp-clap percussion and synths, and basically turning into a one-man project of the singer and songwriter. It was 100% the death of mainstream rock. See Panic at the Disco, Fall out Boy, Imagine Dragons, Maroon 5 etc etc (ik some of these were not rock, but they were bands)
America was not that innocent in 2010s. Before that, I had been listening to some underground political US rap and already in 2000s I had that image of the US as Babylon. Later on, the mainstream caught up and towards the end of 2008 everybody, or at least I was under such impression, was sick and tired of Bush and had been looking forward to "change". This is of course an out-of-towner's perspective who was interested in American music a bit.
Charley Pride was charting on the country charts in the 60s and 70s. Cowboys Troy charted with Big and Rich in the early 00s. Darius Rucker was charting in the late 00s and still is. Country fans hated Old Town Road because it was a rap song and obvious troll. "Racist hicks" sounds better, but it's not accurate. 🤷♂️
The electro/dance pop was my least favourite era of modern music. It got big so fast that it seemed to be taking over everything. 2009-2010 in particular was just completely swamped with garbage that sounded like it was made on a Casio with leaking batteries.
The optimism of the 2010s was nausiating. I miss covid tbh, not the people dying, but everyone thinking the world is coming to an end and locking themselves at home while i roamed around empty national parks
I'm amused how some people bring up the 90s for instance as far as the "good old days" narrative is concerned, especially in my neck of the woods, Poland. The 1990s were one of the toughest times in Poland because we were transitioning from the Communist to the capitalist economy and many fell victim to the "shock therapy", which meant downsizing in multiple employment establishments, the majority of which were plagued by the overemplyment imposed by the central government and, anyhow, lots of business were privatized and had to adapt to the free-market economy. Enough said that it frustrated the hell of societal strata and you could get a knuckle sandwich just eyeing someone on the street. Not to mention the floodgates of shi ty music opening when Viva (German music television) hit the airways and we were flooded with German eurodance. It spoilt our music tastes for years.
All of these were bangers, and you can still make people go nuts if you play Party Rock, G6, or Thrift shop at a party or club. They do hold up, wrong opinion confirmed Finn!!1
My brain can't compute that party rock was released in 2011 I'm sure it was released earlier. I know its cringe when my daughter loved this when she was 2-6 years old in the mid 2010's.
Lmfao funny y'all like it cause 2010-2014 was the worst time of my life, granted it was middle school so it sucked for a lot of people but it was pretty rough
I really love that "worst songs of x decade" format
Its a great way for you to talk about music you usually don't talk about, even if its a reused format it doesnt feel recycled because it gives you the opportunity to talk about all different types of songs
That fucking Kia commercial with the hamsters while "Like a G6" plays is burned into my brain
It's my sleeper cell awakening song 😂
I drove a 2010 Soul and EVERYONE brought up the hamster commercial when I pulled up
Couldve swore it was LMFAO

"The 2010s were corny." My guy, have you SEEN the 80s???
True enough
80s had terminator learher jackets and surfing. 2010s had color blocking and crunk core and logan paul and hipsters and Zoey Deschanel.
still corny
Have you seen anything today? It’s not even corny it’s god tier cringe.

Remember when Facebook would make a change every few months everyone would hate on it?
Brilliant video. I do argue that 2008-2013 were the darkest greyest time in music. Nobody knew quite what anyone wanted, so literally everything was thrown at the creative wall and called it modern music.
Agreed
In the future people will be unironically fully nostalgic, saying they were born in the wrong decade while referencing to the 2010's.
But all the surviving honest ppl will remember how saying anything aged poorly was a sign of the enemy.
Maybe they will be nostalgic to Trump and Brexit?
Before I play the video, about the 2010s: My friend and I talked about musical decades and I said the 2010s has been the worst one by far. He disagreed, told me I was capping, so I sang "Now I'm feeling so fly like a G6" to him. Never have I seen a man changing his entire opinion so quickly.

💀
party rock anthem was so overplayed and annoying that it was the song that got me to actively avoid the radio and pop music in general
That's the one GOOD thing about that song 😂
Pop and rap music is corny af. I have no nostalgia for the 2010s at all.
Sadly my 2010s were a blurry mess of self destruction. My before and after 2010s are where I need to be lol
"I'm in this picture and I don't like it"
Seriously though, good on ya bud. It's much brighter being back among the living. 👍
Kudos for bringing yourself out of a dark time!
Same, but damn I had some great times
Same thank God we made it out to enjoy this nostalgia with Finn
I just came here to say that "Party Rock Anthem" is still on regular rotation for me. It's a banger.
Now I will watch the video 😆
It is annoying but there's something I Iike about the drop.
Like you could remix that into a fat drop.
Yea I always hated the post-emo era FOB stuff. It always felt so corny.
The 10s were full of cringe-spritational songs:
- Fight Song from Rachel Platten
- Unstoppable from Sia
- High Hopes from PAtD
- Roar/Firework/etc etc from Katy Perry
- Thunder from Imagine Dragons
The list goes on...
It’s so weird how even a bad song can make you reminisce and it kinda becomes an awesome so just because of that.
For me the 2010s is a decade to forget. Like it had no "personallity"
Just nothing interesting happend there.
It really didn't, most of the good shit the 2010s brought us was from underground metal/punk bands and nerd core/fnaf music
Early 2010s had corny EDM; late 2010s had "mumble" rap. Mid 2010s is in between both.

LMFAO have a good pedigree. Their 'ancestor' was the founder of MoTown records.
I'll bet that, "Only time will tell" tramp stamp is looking pretty ironic nowadays...
You should listen to F.E.M.'s first big hit, "2 Is Better", which is a BLATANT ripoff of Bloodhound's "The Bad Touch".
The optimism of the 2010s was nausiating. I miss covid tbh, not the people dying, but everyone thinking the world is coming to an end and locking themselves at home while i roamed around empty national parks
lil nas X jumped into that time travel mineshaft by himself.....How did his HORSE get to 2019?!
No lie good times. Forza Horizon, the gymknana series from Ken Block #kb43ver, meeting my girlfriend, Ford going back to Le Mans, the MCU
Like a G6 is cringe as hell but I just listened to it the other day. It’s still an earworm banger if you just don’t watch it or listen to the words.
Hi, I'm not from US but very interested in American culture. Please explain to me why thrift shop is super corny. I don't understand genuinely.
