I mean gulags aren't great obviously, but american prisons aren't exactly a walk in the park. We also incarcerate more people than were ever in gulags. Some people definitely belong in prison, but the prison industrial complex exists for a reason. It's very lucrative for both prosecutors and owners of private prisons. It doesn't matter if someone is wrongfully convicted, they still get their money regaurdless.

Interesting philosophical question…is it better to be a happy idiot in the matrix or a tortured and miserable intellectual? I think if you’re smart enough, you recognize that doing to some dumb things, some of the time, adds balance to a life and is actually the smarter choice. Being perpetually steeped in misery is a mental mistake. So it’s ultimately better to be smart if one is emotionally stable.

Just take care of all your daily responsibilities and then enjoy dumb stuff when it's over. Like if you're going to smoke a bunch of weed and listen to butt rock do it after you file your taxes. Buy snacks before you smoke too, you may not think you need them atm but near future stoned you will appreciate it. I like to use the term being a responsible idiot. Boring tasks first, dumb self indulgence second.
I think the smartest people are the ones who are the most miserable. The FFDP fans aren't necessarily smart, but they are probably capable and content, which is a good place to be.

I had a friend who was obsessed with Tool, but he was an absolute pain to talk to because he would constantly throw in as many misused big/abstract words as he could into every sentence that came out of his mouth.

I think I good rival for tool on the “Smart music for dumb fans” is Lamb of God. Incredible writing and lyrics, fantastic instrumental work all wasted on a bunch of crayon eating caveman.

I'm glad Finn is separating the "educated" from the actual wise people. Having an education these days means absolutely nothing, and could even be detrimental. The American dream isn't obtained through the corporate ladder and college degrees anymore. Running your own business in the construction industry is where it's at.

When I found out dude was at jan 6th with the oath keepers I was pretty pissed. Especially because I've been a fan ever since I heard burnt offerings for the first time. I have a patch on my favorite battle vest and I usually use some e5000 to attach them permanently along with sewing. Luckily it's partially obscured by the collar. Thought about removing it somehow but it represents some good memories before I found out dude was a far right extremist.

The dunning kruger effect is when you have limited knowledge on a topic but think you’re an expert. So tool fans think listening to smart music makes them smart. It’s like reading a Wikipedia page about music theory and then thinking you’re a music genius.
Weezer fans have a love/hate relationship with Weezer. Because when they’re at their best, they’re F’n amazing. But there are a lot of dumb, bland songs. I think you misjudge them though. Because Weezer fans are in on the joke. We know Weezer kinda sucks, and being a Weezer fan is nothing to brag about.

I've been disappointed when I've been to some metal shows of particularly "smart enough" bands but somehow met fans that liked them for "one single element" of their music and didn't pay attention to the whole picture...and they are almost always sport fans.
They're also the type that think that someone not liking sports means they don't like exercise or some dumb shit.

I think Finn went easy on some of these bands/fans. So, in the cases where I don't know anyone who likes the music, I'll extrapolate on a couple of examples.
I think the members of Limp Bizkit probably dumb down the music in order not to alienate their fans. Similarly, (some) Tool fans will think stating a song has a I-vi-IV-V chord progression makes them sound smart.
And finally, I suspect Weezer fans don't see the irony of millionaires living in Santa Monica, wishing they lived in Beverly Hills; which would be a short and easy move.
Also, I think most rappers since the days of gangsta rap have pretended to be dumber than they are.
In my first year at university I lived in halls, and smoked weed constantly, and the apartment became a hub for people all over the campus who wanted weed. As a consequence I didn't talk much, and one time, upon learning I was studying literature a guy I only knew by sight, said he thought I would be studying engineering, "or something like that". 25 years later I'm not sure whether it was a compliment or insult.
I think most fans of LB who are responsible adults with jobs and drug free urine (cannabis excluded), like LB because we know it’s all a joke. It’s called “trolling” these days. Plus, I know the drummers sister so, I guess from what she says Fred is actually down to earth. He’s the guy at the cookout making people laugh in mandals, cargos, and a pink flamingo 😂. He is a Florida man after all.

Cannibal Corpse is one of the few first-generation death metal bands I could never get into. With Death's 'Leprosy' and Gorguts' 'Considered Dead', Monstrosity's 'Imperial Doom', you got the schlock effect of horror as an aesthetic, not as a religion how Cannibal Corpse made it. They also did little to branch out musically. Something that cannot be said for Death and Gorguts.
Monstrosity got robbed man. Talk about underrated. Seems like they were used as a talent farm for other bands. There's an alternate reality out there where george stayed at monstrosity, chris ruined corpse, and we would've laughed at cannibal corpse the way we currently do at six feet under.

@andrewlikesmetal1095 That's funny. They, Monstrosity, are much like Malevelent Creation in that they should be much more talked about than they are. Grand MC had more lineup changes than Spinal Tap, still though, Dave Culross' first band and Derek Roddy's as well. Even bands like Resurrection I felt had a stronger output than CC by the Sam point in time as the record. Thanks for the laugh in your comment.

Metal by in large is cringe. The lyrics of metal tends to be utter cringe. Hence why I don't get why certain metal fans bash LB and Nu Metal as a whole for it's cringe lyrics.....
Reading some of the lyrics from Heavy Metal, Power Metal, Hair Metal, Thrash Metal, Metalcore, Deathcore, Death Metal, Black Metal, Prog Metal, Groove Metal etc etc etc. None of it is intelligent stuff lyrical wise and I'd say like 95% of metal lyrics of every genre is just cringe

I understand the other criticisms Limp Bizkit get but the cringe lyrics.... no different to like 95% of metal... especially ones who try to take themselves seriously. Hence why I can't fault bands like Limp Bizkit, Dope or Cannibal Corpse for being cringe because these bands seems to not take themselves seriously. They know their music is cringe and have embraced it and i respect that. They aren't trying to protray themselves as deep meaningful bands with thought provoking lyrics and deep meanings. Their music is just "Here is a dumb song we made for fun..",
