I saw Alien Ant Farm in 2018 with Lit and Buckcherry in north Scottsdale AZ. During Buckcherrys set I was hanging backstage by the busses with some friends. Lead singer of AAF walks right by me, we make eye contact, and I shook his hand and said "hey man great show it was great to see you, thank you". I was just being nice to the guy. My first Deftones experience was a girl 4 yrs older than me pulling out and sitting on my hog on her living room sofa at 4pm while her family was eating 10 steps away in the kitchen. It was what I wanted, but not what I needed. 😂
To be fair, Cradle of Filth still has yet to find a label that can contain them for more than 2 albums. I think they've been on everything but Interscope and Century Media. lmao
I downloaded that Alien Ant Farm album on LimeWire and burned it to a CD and played it on repeat in my 1996 Chevy Cavalier (with a manual transmission, the poor man’s Pontiac Sunfire) all senior year! Millennial Nostalgia Forever, Finn!
Watched a great interview with Tye (AAF's bassist) recently on YT with a luthier named JD Pinckney. Tye carved and built that bass himself. Apparently he had a deal in the works with Fender at one point to produce a limited edition artist line of these but for whatever reason it never came to fruition. AAF's first indie album (it's called "Greatest Hits") before they hit it big is awesome. Some killer songs on there that didn't make it to their major label debut.
We love skindred in the UK they are incredibly fun live that’s the point they don’t take themselves seriously. They pull huge crowds at festivals and headlined the 2nd stage at download last year to a massive crowd
Finn, after your video the other day, I wanted to word this right. Whether you read this or not, whether you care or not, I just wanted to say that you've been my favorite RUclips for years. You inspired me to get back into content creating, and you also got me to wake up and pursue my career in marketing at 26. I'd personally love to hear what advice you would have for someone who is just starting at 26 after years of trying to become the greatest death metal guitarist, which got me no where. I also loved your older content about the more modern music, the "how did they get big?" series was amazing, plus I love your life advice, life style, vlog videos and I do hope you continue making those and make those older videos as well, but I understand the money aspect. I know this was a schizophrenic tangent, but I seriously hope that you do stick around of find an outlet in content creating that pleases you.
I was on the Five Pointe O scene. They're from my neck of the woods (Chicago Southwest Suburbs), and my friend's brother's band used to play shows with them all of the time. We used to go to every show we possibly could.
I kept thinking at the end of the video, "Damn, where have I heard of Skindred before?" Then I remembered that my Taekwondo instructor had a whole Playlist of shitty Nu-Metal that he used to bump. I remember "Nobody" by Skindred and "Down with the Sickness" by Disturbed coming on all the time. You just unlocked a core memory for me, Finn
Agree, skindred are one of the best bands of all time. Absolute musical geniuses, you can hate on reggae metal but nobody else was doing it, even within nu metal they were completely unique band. But their songs are actually good regardless of the hate, I always listen to "doom riff" that song will be forever stuck in my head. But I like most their songs too. Maybe it's because I was a huge st0ner and went through a massive reggae phase but I also had my emo/metal phase when I was younger too and just appreciate both those styles of music
Saw Skindred open for Papa Roach back in like, 2005-2006 time frame. I was like, 15 or 16 and had my 11 year old brother with me. He enjoyed them, so after their set while waiting for Papa Roach to set up, we went to the merch table to ask about getting an autograph on his ticket. Dudes said "Hell nah. Buy a CD and we'll sign that." to an 11 year old kid who had no merch cash. They lost any possibility of me ever defending their music after that one.
Sometimes there record companies actually put this on the band to sell CDs and merch. I know it's shitty but it happens.. "Bring me the Horizon" was bad about doing this on Warped Tour.
Ha. I accidentally saw Skindred when I got invited to see Goolgol Bordello back in 09ish. I was so confused at what booking agent listened to those two bands and said 'Yup! This is the show combo.' The crowd was dead till GB came out and rightfully so. I would never pay to see Skindred.🤣
@elcheekoful they were in a bad deal back then so might have been a 360. They also had a load of debt after the collapse of their previous band dub war.
@@elcheekoful Ironically it was digby pearson of earache records who bought skindred out of their 360 deal, after all the years of benji slagging off earache dig was the one who helped sort out the bad position they were in. Hence why both dub war and skindred are both now on earache.
I don't know man I actually liked Skindred. Didn't Alien Ant Farms career stall out due to a bus crash that crippled a couple of the guys? My memory is saying something like that. From Wikipedia: In May 2002, the band was involved in a bus accident while touring in Spain.[13] While the whole band suffered minor injuries, the driver, 26-year-old Christopher Holland, was killed, and lead singer Mitchell suffered a fractured C2 vertebra.[14][2] I guess not, says they were back in the studio in 03.

Hey man. Just wanted to tell you that I come her to see you. You could make the same nu metal video 1000 times and I'll watch it every time. You have a lot of good advice and you're funny AF. I hope you stick around for a while longer
Skindred has that so bad it’s actually good energy to me. I’ll jam through their album once every 2 or 3 years if I’m in the right frame of mind for it. The right frame of mind probably being me forgetting exactly why I haven’t listened to them for a while.
I am a big fan of Dry Kill Logic definitely one of my favorite Nu Metal bands and were the reason I got into the genre. The unhinged vocals is a definite selling point and while slipknot also has a similar vocal style, they take a lot of influence from more death metal in its guitar work while DKL sounds a lot more inspired by thrash/groove Metal especially later in their career.
That 2008 Affliction look is actually super popular with skater/grunge dressed teenagers at the moment. They call it "cyber". I sell tons of it on Depop
Did a couple of tours with Dry Kill Logic in late ‘04 and then again early ‘05. In fact, we had just finished our set and the news was coming out about Dimebag being murdered and both of our bands were scouring the internet to find out what happened for the rest of the night. Good dudes! I have no comment about their music…. 😂

Mr. Mckenty I agree with other commenters saying they would like to see content other than discussing nu metal. That isn't to say your nu metal videos are bad because they are still entertaining. However, we know you have a lot of other interests and are very intelligent. Your commentary is what makes your videos worth watching.
Don't worry, bro. You get used to it, especially if you have pleb normie taste like me. A band I like gets absolutely roasted on most of Finn's videos. Pretty sure he's called at least 3 bands I love "one of the worst I've ever heard" at this point.

Hey man. Just wanted to tell you that I come her to see you. You could make the same nu metal video 1000 times and I'll watch it every time. You have a lot of good advice and you're funny AF. I hope you stick around for a while longer
I strongly believe AAF‘s smooth criminal cover is a god-tier cover song, regardless of genre or anything
What was your band?
@@ardley216 I was playing with Candiria
Okay Finn.. I Draw the line with Skindred! Bro they fucking Slap! I have nothing bit live for their tunes! 😅
I’d rather watch the same Nu metal video a hundred times than have Finn quit. I grew up watching Finns content and I’ve discovered so much music and gained general life advice from Finn. Honestly I’m here for whatever content Finn wants to make😭
The chorus of Face The Pain is actually pretty energizing. The riff is super sick. Same energy as Killing in The Name hook
Being a huge ufc fan I probably have heard face the pain a thousand times but it still never fails to pump me up for a fight card
I used to jam to Dry Kill Logic all the time, I still have their first album.
Remember reading Alien Ant farms bass player was in a Primus cover band. Explains the bass he playing.
My friend just gave me his uncles old BBE Sonic maximizer after he moved to Florida after doing time. I still cannot figure out what it does.
It basically just scoops the mids
Rackmount form or pedal?
It maximizes the sonic. DUHH
@@redherring5532 rack mount
You do not need it, sell it on reverb lol
I actually first heard ‘Face the Pain’ in an old Cod4 ProMod Frag Movie called “Qlimaxzu - Overused”. Legendary video for anyone interested. Also, FACE THE PAIN, FACE THE PAIN!!
Hey! So you did think Annie was okay! I trusted you, Sports Metal Coach Finn! jk I agree. I prefer to listen to Movies to get down with the fitness. Ooo-ah-ah-ah. Also, just update, I got another Thousand Foot Krutch album! haha I voted Linkin Park on the poll for best nu-metal, but TFK is my favorite. Hope you and your have a great week, Finn!
That alien ant farm song was my first favorite song when I was a kid. I used to sit at my family’s computer watching the little sound waves on windows media player
That Skindred track on the NFSU2 soundtrack was fire, youve missed out.
I don't really like Michael's cover of smooth criminal, I prefer the original by AAF
Glad you *finally* decided to tackle Nu Metal on your channel
My cuz had a Banana Sunfire and a drum rack. It all fit in the car too. Drove from Utica to NYC with the HH and i in the shotgun
I know Luke Thomas can't stand Face The Pain, but ngl I was super stoked to hear it again during UFC 300. Miss the old gladiator intro to the PPV's too.
I got to open up for AAF back in 2011. They were awesome guys and totally rocked the house.
Here is also a Skindred defender 🙋♂️! Skindred WAS one of my favourite bands. Roots rock riot is a 10/10 album and i still love it!
I may be a millennial and I may have no standards but I would rather hear Skindred than Black Eyed Peas
I saw the video title and saw alien ant farm smooth criminal and almost went off on you right at the start 😂😂😂 this smooth criminal cover is a masterpiece
You NEED to do video series in the form of Project Runway, or Queer eye using nu-metal fashion!
I feel like every time Finn talks about Nu-Metal it’s a cry for help.
@TheFaceMelter Wasn’t “Blank Space” the first single for I Prevail? That worked out quite well for them.
Hey Finn, just wanted to let you know that i watch your vids but don't really care that much for nu metal. might be in the minority here, but we exist
Amen!
I always loved nu metal but now Im absolutely sick of it. We need new blood in Metal music everything is a "revival" but less interesting
HECK YA! It's what I grew up on too 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
@@donnienarco144try macabre aghuslant
I hate nu metal to
Yassssss i loved that era of UFC. Me and my best bros at the time would all pitch in for the pay oer view fights and drink beer and malibu with pinealple juice lol.
That monkey looks absolutely frightened
Favorite NuMetal Local band was Wicked Red from Corpus Christi, TX Like 20-25 years ago. Their stuff is on RUclips. Minus the megaphone in the mic usage, they had some gems.
(alien ant farm)AAF are back, they released new stuff recently.
My favorite AAF song was These days.
Finn McKenty, the man is a true poet!
a friend of mine went to a local music fest some time around 2005. skindred was there. someone else was up on stage. in the crowd with my friend were some people that made him think "they're here to see skindred" .. a moment later they got up on stage, it was them.
I know the hate gets old, but your videos have brought my wife and I a lot of joy throughout the past year or so. Your life advice videos are spot on too. Thanks for setting a good example for those of us who didn’t come from much.
Mr. Mckenty I agree with other commenters saying they would like to see content other than discussing nu metal. That isn't to say your nu metal videos are bad because they are still entertaining. However, we know you have a lot of other interests and are very intelligent. Your commentary is what makes your videos worth watching.
Finn I would genuinely love to hear you talk about rap or pop or anything if you need a break from this brother 😂 until then I respect the grind lol
SKINDRED sounds more like punk rock than nu metal. And it isn't even close... thus.. is exactly why they suck.
Oh no 😩 finally covering Five Pointe O and you roast them 😩 they are one of my favorites
Don't worry, bro. You get used to it, especially if you have pleb normie taste like me. A band I like gets absolutely roasted on most of Finn's videos. Pretty sure he's called at least 3 bands I love "one of the worst I've ever heard" at this point.
Dude Five Point O was featured, This was a very low key roadrunner band that only lasted for like a year after it got signed, they were definitely a local band from Chicago first.
Hey Finn, I think you should go by 75/25 split … 3/4 of your videos will be nostalgia. A quarter of it can be new material. I think there is some of us who do love the nostalgia. And Also want to hear new artist.
