  • Shot, developed, and scanned a cartridge of Kodak Tri-X yesterday. Used a Morse development tank and Film Photography Project's Black & White Monobath chemistry. The footage was captured on a Soviet Quartz-8XL camera at 24FPS.
Honestly, I’m blown away by how quickly it all came together. What used to take weeks was done in just a few hours. That said, I wouldn’t submit this for most of my professional work - but for a DIY /artsy experiment, I’m calling it a win!
Next week, I’m stepping it up to 16mm with a Soviet KR-3.
*No gatekeeping here* I’ve dropped instructions below of the process in the comments. Feel free to check it out and give it a go!
    DIY Black & White Movie Film Developing (8mm/16mm) - Step-by-Step Guide! 🎞️📽️
Want to develop your own B&W movie film at home? Here’s a simple method perfect for hobbyist filmmakers and photographers. No lab needed!
    1️⃣ Load the Film
    • Place your 8mm or 16mm film onto the Morse tank reel inside a dark bag or dark room (preferred for zero light leaks).
    • Securely close the tank lid.
    2️⃣ Pre-Wash
    • Pour tap water into the tank and turn the knobs for 4 minutes.
    • Drain out the water.
    3️⃣ Develop
    • Pour 1 bottle of Film Photography Project’s Monobath into the tank.
    • Turn those knobs for 17 minutes straight (no slacking!).
    • Drain the Monobath back into its bottle to reuse later.
    4️⃣ Wash & Rinse
    • Open the tank and fill with either tap or distilled water (distilled is better).
    • Wash for 4 minutes, then drain.
    • Refill the tank with water and add 2 capfuls of Photo-Flo.
    • Turn the knobs for 3 minutes, then pour it all out.
    5️⃣ Dry Time
    • Carefully hang your film to dry in a dust-free space.
And that’s it - you’ve got your very own DIY developed movie film! 🎉 Drop a comment if this guide helped you out or if you have any tips to share!

Decent results. I use the monobath for b/w super 8 and works surprisingly well.

@@I.O.M. Any tips for transferring Super 8 to a Morse tank reel? I hate handling the film so much. With double 8/16mm, you can crank it directly from the daylight reel to the Morse reel with minimal contact.

No idea, sorry. I invested in lomo tank for super 8 and 16 that works pretty well.
