THIS FIVE YEAR OLD VIDEO HELPED ME. THANK YOU. I AM EASILY INTIMIDATED BY AUTO MOBILE REPAIRS. THIS VIDEO MADE IT EASY AND SAVED ME A TON OF MONEY. THANK YOU FOR HELPING. PEOPLE NEED PEOPLE LIKE YOU
You have no idea how many video's I had to watch to find someone who would tell me the order they go. Everyone just said don't move them. Thank you so much. 10 years old and still the best video on the topic.
For those of you with the 2000's version V6 Ranger like me, take your front tires off and go in from the sides. For the passenger side plugs, you might find you can't get a socket extension in there on the middle plug as it's pretty tight. Just slide a 19mm deep socket over the spark plug socket head, and viola! No extension needed, and you have room to manipulate a socket wrench. I just did mine today for the first time ever, and thanks to the power of RUclips it went super smoothly and my truck runs great!
This video met my needs. Very helpful on how to open the wire loom; very clear, up close image! Very easy to understand and follow Chris. This worked for my 2003 Ford Ranger Edge, Standard cab, 3.0-6cyc - gas. I replaced my spark plugs & wires with Motorcraft. Perfect fit everytime. Saved me lots of money doing this myself. Any skill level backyard mechanic can do this. Take your time and replace ONE wire at a time.
I’m a day and age where information can be so readily available, the information you find isn’t always accurate or straight forward. After 2 hrs of sifting they diagrams for my make and frustration. I found myself just looking for a simple video. Chris Fix. This video was clear, straight forward and helpful. I remembered Chris’s for my Ranger bc many years ago I watched a video to fix my Pontiac. This video took me 5mins and came with helpful tips such as the zip ties. Thanks again
I changed plugs and wires on my 99 Ranger a year ago. I sold it and got a 2011 Ranger Sport v6 4.0. Has 98k on it so its time to change plugs and wires on it. Thanks for your video. Always impressed with your videos!
how did you learn all this? , and thank you , I didn't take classes in highschool but this has helped me alot . I regret not taking classes , thanks again .subscribed
Thanks ChrisFix I bought a Ranger 93 and starting to fix stuff thanks to your Videos thanks for the help!! All the way from El Refugio del Valle, Jalisco, Mexico
This was absolutely the BEST video on spark plug change out. I changed the plugs, wires and ignition pack. I had the wires crossed but this video straightened out pronto.
Hey Chris, great work. Awesome videos. I've be en watching your channel for years. As you have continued to grow your videos have become more informative and your enthusiasm for the car craft more apparent. Thank you for all your hard work and interesting videos. Also thank you for your kindness and supporting so many charities like the wounded warrior project and times when you give to the disadvantaged. You are awesome. Be blessed
This is recorded clearly so we can see everything you are doing!! I know it's time for my 99 Taurus SE to have a tune-up but I want to do it myself... 1 to save some money & 2 because I think even thou I'm female...I should know how to & be able to do some routine maintenance for my car by myself. But, I also knew I had to make sure that each replacement wire matched exactly to the one I would be removing and, honestly I thought all the wires had to be removed at once and then replace them. That's what has been stopping me because I was to worried I would mess it up and cause mis-firing. Your vid shows that I can do it one at a time to avoid that risk! Thanx Chris...now I just need a really good vid for the plugs and I will be able to give this a shot on my own!!
Peachess1965 Great! Glad the video was helpful! Let me know how the replacement goes. As for the plugs, it is easy, you get a spark plug socket, some extensions and a ratchet. That is all.
HOLY CRAP!!! Okay, first. The 01 ranger 4.0, set up is VASTLY different!! Second...if you choose to DIY on this, that is to say, the ranger 4.0...make sure the kids and neighbors are not home!! For SEVERAL hours!!! The 4,5 and 6 were reasonably easy. I suspect for most, very easy. But the truck I bought, though low mileage for the year...94,000 on again, a 2001, CLEARLY is still running on the original plugs and wires! At least I know now why, with less than 10,000 miles since I bought it a year ago, it’s running rough and skipping. I also understand why the original owner never changed them!!! To access the 1,2 and 3...I had to remove the passenger wheel and the wheel well skirting. That too, not having been removed in 17 years!!! I’ll get this done but I’ll tell you what...it’ll become coke cans before I undertake THIS backyard mechanic job again!!! I got 4 done and the rain came!! Most fitting for this job!! 😡 The number 2 is going to likely drive me to the funny farm!! Even once I AM able to get the plug wire off, solving world hunger would be easier than getting the old plug out! I’m praying getting the new one in, ( you like my optimism that I’ll even get the old wire and plug out), will be easy! Then I’ll be battling getting the wheel well skirt back in! Yes, it CAN be done BUT....’easy’ it AIN’T!!! Not even CLOSE!!
Thank you so much for these videos. Your instructions are so clear and easy to follow. Your camera angels are amazing, almost as if watching you in person. Great job!
Dude, this was a class of class. I own a 08 ranger 3.0. It looks like I will need stilts to get to the back of the engine to open the looms. LOL. I bought mine new. Get this, the wires on the passenger side run along and even touch the engine valve cover between the cover and the block. I'm shocked that I haven't had an issue yet. Thanks for posting this vid. It was most helpful .
Mistergibsonsg1 Thanks man! Yea, I couldnt believe that the wires touched the valve covers either! I also had to use a step stool to get to my wires lol. Gald the video was helpful!
Aaron Stickel Thanks Aaron! Yea, the concepts are the same and it should definitely help! Check this out too for how to make your own wire looms just in case you break a few: ruclips.net/video/xWO1Oes7oJw/видео.html
You are GOOD! Was considering doing the job myself, haven't changed plugs in decades and even then it was on a car that I had for many years. This Ford Ranger that I have now is a different beast altogether. Wish you were in my neighborhood! 😂 Thanks for the info my friend..
Great work, Chris. Just one thought. I worked in the telephone industry for 35 years. I really like how you used the ty-wraps to make now looms and such. Just a heads up that you should either not trim the excess plastic from the installed ty-wraps or (the preferential way) cut them off flush with the lock. This will prevent blood from being spilled, I guarantee it. Many times I have reached into a tight spot without seeing and came back with a wicked cut from just this issue. Hope all is well...
Thank you for this video and greatest detail about this video is the order on where the wires go to each cylinder thanks again no one else had that detail
hey chris its great that you share such great knowledge with every possible steps and with great effort which makes it fool proof and it must be appreciated and thumbs up to all your effort and videos
chris fix you the truth I just did a control arm and drive axle on my compass with your help of course now im about to do a hub bearing on my malibu thanks to you
I have a 1999 Ranger XLT 3.0 V6. Question is why does the set of plugs come with 4 wires with black boots, and 2 wires with grey boots. Thank You for your input.
Been trying to figure out the correct firing order because I have a dead cylinder and new wires, coil pack, and plugs. Gonna try yours if it's not the same. Thanks for the vid.
Great idea with the zipties.... I will be doing that tomorrow when I change my plug wires. I have developed some arching today and changed my plugs first with no help and tonight I could see the arching so I will fix that tomorrow.
I've got the Duratec sideways V-6 and Bank 1 is impossible to get to without removing the intake manifold. A real PITA!! Would love to see you do a video on that engine.
Very nice and neat chris :-) Sometimes handy to keep the longest old wire for diags to other vehicles, if its cleaned really well and it conducts ok then it will be ok for short tests :-) Ive used cable ties in rather complex patterns to hold allsorts together, they are bloody magic :-) You had a nice engine to do there, i had one where the coil pack is behind the engine and very low, so you have to lie under the car and feed your arm through the junk in the way to uplug the wires, i swore a few times lol :-)
ChrisFix Sorry i ment just simple diagnostic testing, you know, is this wire faulty when damp, does this distributor produce spark, attaching a spark gap device to check a healthy voltage, is it arking out and i cant see it, does it break down because it gets too hot near the engine. Sometimes you cant see the fault and just a spare long lead can tell you if there is a fault or difference you cant see.
Great Videos Chris, Question: I just picked up a 1971 VW Beetle and what is better, 10.4mm Taylor plug wires or stay with 8mm ???? Also Is it the lower oms # is better??Thanks Steve
Great close-ups of the wire looms/clips and how they work! I'm down with the zip-tie scheme as a replacement, but what about the looms that actually attach to holes in the block/valve covers... any slick ideas there?
Hey Chris! Love your videos bro. I've learn a ton. I'm super grateful for them. Got a quick question if I may. I got a Volvo C70 2001 stick shift with 180K miles or so. Recently got the code P0300 random misfire. Trying to get as much info as I can to see what troubleshooting steps I can take. Is got a turbo and I am due for a throttle body cleaning (putting a new gasket too). I have recently changed the spark plugs no less than 10K ago and changed a injector coil as well (for a used one though....) since I did get a misfire previously in 1 of the cylinders. Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll most likely be done before you get back to me, but for a 1986 ford ranger, is this gonna be the same set up? its a v6 also. Great video! Your footage is extremely helpful!!
Hi Chris, Do you have a video for spark plug Mazda 3.0/V6 engine (2005 Tribute ) ? I have looked and did not see one. Your diy auto repair videos are super helpful. Thank you.
Hey Chris, I have a Mazda b3000 as well. On my oil cap it says 5w-20 but the manual says 5w-30. I see yours also has a cap that says 20 but I saw the other video where you replaced with 30. Why the discrepancy and how much of a difference does it make? Also, can you do a video on changing the valve cover gasket?
ChrisFix I have no idea where to start because my engine is like..."all in one". Everything is all contained in the central block and barely anything is accessible apart from the fluid top up locations...
pgoody I like these spark plugs: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F9VL0UE/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00F9VL0UE&linkCode=as2&tag=chri0e2-20&linkId=4C3AF3WPYUPERCOA And I like these wires: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001RM4AOW/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001RM4AOW&linkCode=as2&tag=chri0e2-20&linkId=ONF5V7TM7POYIK3A
+ChrisFix if it doesn't leak then I guess there's no problem. I noticed it because I just finished up putting a set of heads on an 02 ranger edge with the 3.0 and had been looking for stuff like that lol
Chris, as an owner of a Ford (Mazda) what's your opinion of that 3.0 v6? I'm looking into one and all i hear about them is how "Moody" and "Slow Revving" and "Underpowered" they are
Alex B. i have a 3.0 2004 ford ranger bought it with 130k running perfectly only switched out the blower motor, and recently the sparkplugs and wires.. the truck hasnt had any other maintenance other than oil and filter change.. it runs great!
Hi Crisfix, you may have already did a video like the one I'm requesting👍 Can you do a video describing all of the electrical on the engine, like the wire harnesses distributor, idol control, and all the other connectors on your truck, please please pleas, there are some things I don't have a clue what they do, 🤔🤔🤔 help the clueless one 👍 I'm sure I'm not the only one
Hi chris ive been trying to fix a misfire problem on my 02 mazda b3000 prtty much since ive got it, i have the firing order hooked up the same way you have yours in this video, but the parts store printed me out a firing order which is basically backwards, if you could please help me determine which is the correct way id appreciate it, thanks.
Hey Chris I bought brand new spark plug wires today but what tripped me out is that they gave me 8 wires while the vehicle I own only has 6 cynliders should I go back to the shop and double check if they gave me the correct wires?
on my Ford Falcon I just changed the Spark Plug Wires , with Bosch wires each cable was numbered from 1 to 6 so I know which cylinder to run it to the coil
Hi Chris I thought you had a B2500se. Anyway maybe you can help answer a few questions anyway. I'm in a deep one with my 00Mazda B2500 2.5L and not 1 mechanic I can trust or even afford. Does my truck have a Crankshaft Synchronizer? Is this truck's computer identified as an ECM, ECU or PMC ? There is an intermittent starting and shutting down problem, thats right it shuts down while driving unexpectedly, well now I expect it so its not drivable. Replaced bad fuel pump going to change spark plugs and use your video to test wires so I can rule that out. Thank you
I'm watching this video in this moment because I discovered that one ignition wire from my truck was fisured, and was touching a part of the engine making short circuit, I put some insulating tape and now is working fine, but I preffer change the wire to be sure.
ChrisFix Thanks for replying... the color diff leaves me thinking I'm supposed to do something "different" with those 2 cylinders, LOL... ... I'll check w/ some forums I'm on, and report back if I find anything... (*"too much time on my hands" playing in background...*)
+ChrisFix It's supposed to indicate the 1st cylinder on each bank. The original Motorcraft wires did something similar, although only Cylinder #1 has a light grey boot, presumably because it's the longest wire.
Question chris, love your videos by the way , same engine here on my ford ranger 3.0 ohv 6 cil, but i'm not sure what kind of spark plugs do i need, some people say motorcraft some others autolite double platinum, may i know what kind of spark plugs do you have or recommend, and if you have to gap them out, thanks in advance very helpful info. Sorry for my english
Quick Question I have a 2003 monte carlo that I've never replaced the plugs on them and the boots are melted to the engine. What would be a good way of removing the boots?
I thk they make a tool for removing em, but it they really are melted u might as well replace em. If that's what u do then just get em off by any means necessary (pliers, channel locks, hard yank with hand lol). I thk they make a tool for removing em if you're not gonna replace em.
1776 Libertarian was planning on replacing them anyways but wanted to see if they were bad ended up pulling them out with my hands but broke them in the process.

Finally someone who actually shows you the order for the wires...thanks bro!😀👍
i like this guy! his knowledge is good and is very clear with his instructions!
Rick Boyd Thanks Rick!
thank you for having such straight forward how to videos. You don't miss a thing and your camera angles are great!
+Gabriel Morales No problem! I try my best to teach you guys so you can fix your own cars!

Great presentation. I messed up and didn't record which wires went where. This video is a real life-saver. Keep up the good work!
I changed plugs and wires on my 99 Ranger a year ago. I sold it and got a 2011 Ranger Sport v6 4.0. Has 98k on it so its time to change plugs and wires on it. Thanks for your video. Always impressed with your videos!
I cant tell you how much I appreciate your videos. And the fact that I have a b3000 too, makes this even better!
how did you learn all this? , and thank you , I didn't take classes in highschool but this has helped me alot . I regret not taking classes , thanks again .subscribed

Gf was crying because of misfire after I routed them wrong. Thanks Chris you are a lifesaver
Just bought a ranger v6 3.0 2003!! Never seen winter. Cant wait to use your vids!
Youre the best tutor in youtube when it comes to Automotive repairs.
By the way. Why dont you have any videos about Clutch Systems?
This is recorded clearly so we can see everything you are doing!! I know it's time for my 99 Taurus SE to have a tune-up but I want to do it myself... 1 to save some money & 2 because I think even thou I'm female...I should know how to & be able to do some routine maintenance for my car by myself. Peachess1965 Great! Glad the video was helpful! Let me know how the replacement goes. As for the plugs, it is easy, you get a spark plug socket, some extensions and a ratchet. That is all.
This is an incredibly simple video. This is what every instruction guide should be.
aye shout out for this vid, I was able to replace my spark plug wires cos of you! Pesky code gone!!
Awesome!!!
And egotistical car maniacs think they know everything. With you, I can learn on my own.
you don't understand on how many ranger Ricks like me you saved thanks bro 😂🔥
I'm glad the video helped! Thanks!
Very helpful video! It makes the job much easier and I like how you routed the wires along the firewall. Thanks Chris! Bob
I've changed plugs before but never the wires, this video helped out a lot! Thank you and greetings from Wyoming
Change out your wires to you could have cracks in them and it’ll arc to ground and not the plug also they degrade over time
It didn't work for me now the car it won't start 😒

Damn man, and I though unbolting the engine and slightly moving it forward to get to the back 3 was tedious, lol.
The original Platinum spark plugs on this truck have a 100,000 change interval, so your 94,000 plugs were due, for sure.
Thank you so much for these videos. Your instructions are so clear and easy to follow. Your camera angels are amazing, almost as if watching you in person. Great job!
Thanks and no problem! Glad the videos are helpful!

Aaron Stickel Thanks Aaron! Yea, the concepts are the same and it should definitely help! Check this out too for how to make your own wire looms just in case you break a few: ruclips.net/video/xWO1Oes7oJw/видео.html

Thanks for showing us how to pop open the wire harness.....that's exactly what I needed to see.
That's it? That's simple enough for me, probably saved me a trip to the garage to get them replaced thanks!
No problem!
Thank you for this video and greatest detail about this video is the order on where the wires go to each cylinder thanks again no one else had that detail
hey chris its great that you share such great knowledge with every possible steps and with great effort which makes it fool proof and it must be appreciated and thumbs up to all your effort and videos
Just fixed my ignition wires, sending love your way my good man. Thanks for what you do 💯👍🏾
chris fix you the truth I just did a control arm and drive axle on my compass with your help of course now im about to do a hub bearing on my malibu thanks to you
That is awesome! Glad the videos are helpful and nice work!
Used your video as the guidebook for my Ford ranger perfect thanks a lot
Awesome!
Really outstanding instruction. Changing out my Ranger's wires this weekend. Thank you for you time sir.
Thanks a lot man! Glad the video is helping you with your wire replacement. Remember to give the video a "thumbs up" (it helps me out, thanks).
great video man..attention to detail is on point..keep it up
I couldn't get the right wiring order and somehow I remembered to see this video thank you
Appreciate your great video, help out alot , now I have a better chance to pass Smog.
Chris is the bomb
Indeed!
I have a 1999 Ranger XLT 3.0 V6. Question is why does the set of plugs come with 4 wires with black boots, and 2 wires with grey boots. Thank You for your input.
I just changed mine. The grey ones go on the rear cylinders.
Been trying to figure out the correct firing order because I have a dead cylinder and new wires, coil pack, and plugs. Gonna try yours if it's not the same. Thanks for the vid.
Try swapping some around! Which engine are you trying to figure out?
Excellent video very well done Chris thanks.
Billy Hawkins Thank you Billy!
Great idea with the zipties.... I will be doing that tomorrow when I change my plug wires. I have developed some arching today and changed my plugs first with no help and tonight I could see the arching so I will fix that tomorrow.
+Ash H Awesome! Let me know how it goes!
Ash H u
Great video well explaned. On our v6s in england that look similar they fitted heat shields on the spark plug end of the leads.
You help me out a lot. Thanks So much.
I've got the Duratec sideways V-6 and Bank 1 is impossible to get to without removing the intake manifold. A real PITA!! Would love to see you do a video on that engine.
only took 5 minutes to change the wires on my 98 Honda Accord.
Awesome!!!
Thanks boss! You got my sub.
Very nice and neat chris :-)

Have you ever done a starter replacement? I’m doing one on my 91 ford ranger and love your videos they help a lot!
I have! Check it out: ruclips.net/video/yC409CU7mU8/видео.html
Great video, I replaced my plugs and wires recently on my 4.0l v6. It's very similar to yours.
Nice! It wasnt too bad! The worst part were the wire loom holders!
Lets talk ab how impressive those diy wire harnesses are
Awesome video. My boyfriend mentioned something about changing my spark plug wires a few months ago...maybe now I can do it without him! THANKS!
Awesome! Hopefully the video helps! It is an easy job, and the hardest part are the wire loom holders. Good luck!
Great videos sir good job
Thank you!
Great close-ups of the wire looms/clips and how they work! I'm down with the zip-tie scheme as a replacement, but what about the looms that actually attach to holes in the block/valve covers... any slick ideas there?
Major Calibere Glad you liked the video! I do not have any ideas for the block/valve cover looms as of now but I will think about it!
hermano gracias desde Colombia por tus conocimientos!
Thanks cris I’m doing this on my 99 ranger will the pattern be the same?
good video....please clean that engine.....do a video on it!
hey chris whats your opinion of using anti-seize before re-installing spark plugs? thanks
+gerald B I always use the silver antiseize when changing plugs. It's good insurance so the plugs don't get stuck and so the threads are lubricated!
Good man. Always good vids. Mind picking up a 4 liter 09 ranger and doing some vids on it?

Great video
I've got an '86 ranger 2.9L ... would like to also replace distributor cap/rotor ... looks difficult to reach. Do you have a video?
Thank you you are very specific
Hey Chris, great vid, any recommendations on brand names for spark plugs and spark plug wires for a 2003 Ford Ranger 4.0L? Thanks again!

Were you missing a passenger side exhaust manifold bolt in this video? Or just broke off
+EARL1996able I think the previous owner broke it off.
+ChrisFix if it doesn't leak then I guess there's no problem. I noticed it because I just finished up putting a set of heads on an 02 ranger edge with the 3.0 and had been looking for stuff like that lol
love your vids I noticed a missing screw on the distributor
Great video so right they snap on my Chevy Silverado
Any advice on removing stubborn spark plug boots and heat shields on an 08 Pontiac Grand Prix?
This works well for the boots: amzn.to/2ipiDuZ
Dawmmm old chris sounds soo different
Indeed
this is great. thank you.
No problem! Glad the video was helpful!
Chris, would you rather supercharge or turbocharge your driftpony?
Nice vid btw :D
ZombieSlayer103 I believe he's said turbo in several videos.
Hi Crisfix, you may have already did a video like the one I'm requesting👍
Can you do a video describing all of the electrical on the engine, like the wire harnesses distributor, idol control, and all the other connectors on your truck, please please pleas, there are some things I don't have a clue what they do, 🤔🤔🤔 help the clueless one 👍 I'm sure I'm not the only one
***** Yea, that is most likely a mistake. What car? I would go back and double check because the wrong size wires will be a pain to work with!
on my Ford Falcon I just changed the Spark Plug Wires , with Bosch wires each cable was numbered from 1 to 6 so I know which cylinder to run it to the coil
+ozmoc awesome
Her Chris . Is this the same for a 1998 ford ranger 4x4 3.0 v6 ? Do the spurk plug wires go in the same order as yours? Let me know ASAP , thx
Autozone is showing me a different firing order I’m confused
Similar models on a Ford Explorer or Mercury Mountaineer?
The Explorer or Mountaineer should be very similar. V8 models will have (2) more cylinders, therefore, (2) more spark plug wires.
Do you have a video on spark plugs themselves?
Im about to change my wires for the first time on my ford ranger, wish me luck 🥲🤝
I used this same Bosch wire set on my V6 Ranger... any idea why 2 of the plug boots are light gray while the other 4 are charcoal????
Major Calibere I have no clue. I was wondering the same exact thing.
So 2 of the new spark plug wires are the same size how do i know which tp choose or does it not matter??
Question chris, love your videos by the way , same engine here on my ford ranger 3.0 ohv 6 cil, but i'm not sure what kind of spark plugs do i need, some people say motorcraft some others autolite double platinum, may i know what kind of spark plugs do you have or recommend, and if you have to gap them out, thanks in advance very helpful info. Sorry for my english

your truck has the same engine as mine. can you make a how to change spark plugs on that specific engine?
Well done
how did you have the old wires to compare the new before applying. anyways.
+Cody Wakefield Yeah I just did the same thing. I had to use channel locks on 1 of em pulled a big chunk off it. It's misfiring now lol.
1776 Libertarian I just changed the plugs and that fixed it for me
