THANK YOU! Not only do I have a broken spark plug, but I broke a wire like this and I didn’t want to have to buy another set of wires, too... This was awesome, thank you for helping me out!
This is EXACTLY what just happened to me. I already put 2 and 2 together and fixed it but I support this video bc other people may not be able to improvise like this. Thanks!
there are too many dumb people on earth who cant think outside of box, so videos like these are treir only remedy. Or a thick wallet that pays for everyhting.
Thanks so much! I'm used to stripping and soldering wires but that is not what is needed here! That conductor wire is so tiny you can't strip it out of the black covering. My plug had pulled off my coil wire (copper plug sticking in the coil) and it's a prestolite on an old boat and the auto shops don't seem to carry it. Mine broke just like yours, leaving some black silicone inside the copper part. Your video saved me! I just cut more insulation off the big outside and folded back the tiny black covered wire under the connector like you showed. Got it clamped back together. It's running great.
Just did this, this morning! Thank you!!! This video not only satisfied my curiosity but saved MY REAR LOL. I HAVE the money just not ready to spend on it this yet. The wires are new and I was taking the manifold off.
Glad I searched this. I just replaced the plugs wires months ago. So I am ready to replace the plugs I pulled out the wire it came loose. So I'm glad I found your video. Thks
Murphy's law dictates the last plug I replace would do this 😥 thank you so much for saving us! Didn't want to have to replace our already newer wires!!
Nice simple short video. Clear and understandable. I was just looking to confirm what I had already done to my Chev C70 and you did that for me! I used WD 40 tho instead of dielectric grease. Hope that wont be a problem...
very nice video... Thank You so much for making this... i had a no start condition so i check for spark and i had non. i removed the coil and cleaned mounting surfaces. and regap coil. still no spark found end of coil wire at spark plug faulty connection could not believe it, trimmed end off recheck and now it working great, just crazy problem... yep it was the end of the wire at the plug... who would of thought no spark problem is at the end of the wire at the spark plug connection ???
U keep working on One of The easiest to work on Vehicle's of the 90's and beyond, some what modern but no where near MODERN at the same time........................
Thanks for this video. I personally think this fix will last a lifetime, unless your try to take out the spark plug again then you might disturb the plug wire again. Otherwise I think it's a pretty good and solid fix.
Thanks man, Ive had a set in my car for 2 months bought them new and 3 of them just did this when I was checking the spark plug cables! So glad I came across your video!
My Jeep Wrangler #6 spark plug wire kept popping off whenever I'd hit a good bump. Pulled over on the freeway as I was half way to picking up my wife from the airport. Took Super Glue I had in the glove box and put a few drops around the rubber boot and popped it back on the spark plug. Been running good for a week, lol. I did order a new set of wires and have the tools in the Jeep to fix it should it break while driving and of course have a roll of Duck Tape...... Thank you for the informative video, added a pair of needle nose to my emergency kit, lol
thankyou very much for the tip on the die electric super lube grease, i need it for fuses and seems good for just shining up the motor protection maybe similar to silicone spray which cost too much now for detailing use...
Just happened to me an hour ago...luckily my wires had the imprint and I could clamp them how they were truck ran as it did prior...I stumbled upon this video to see if Itll be okay or if it was a temp or if it was really that straight forward and easy to fix....on a scale of easy to easiest, I'd give this the easiest thing I had to fix
I 👍ed because I enjoyed it 'at least just a little bit'! I've spent a coupla days trying to fix a strimmer. Seen all the videos. Turns out there is something wrong inside the 6" ( ?) of ht wire. It's moulded into the coil, which are cheap enough but a) the principle of the thing, b) month by slowboat from China. Looking at doing a splice but didn't realise how THIN the one strand of wire is inside, and DELICATE! Even your one has its own private insulation!
Done this many times in the past minus the grease. One time a repair shop claimed they had to replace a bad plug wire and replaced it with one with a plastic boot that ended up cracking my spark plug in half. Had to buy a new spark plug and I replaced their plastic boot with a rubber one from an old set. Yeah they replaced a wire from an almost brand new set.
awesome vid , probably it'll work for my motorcycle , i made the mistake twice, technically a 12 v whatever should be ok BUT it fries the starter solenoid i can get used or aftermarket cheap, so next i have old carbs i clean over and over , this time spotless mostly BUT i find two funky spark plug wires (big 4 cylinder) so i realize the messed up running has been a short and not running probably the both wires same time but i think it'll get me rolling fast/lol i saw the vid a while back but i went legally blind a spell , very depressing and aging i guess anyway i got projects all over now i can see but i'm out of shape from the ordeal still , it's been awesome though i had faith and learned alot about the temp state but man imagine i'm 40's , 75-80 year olds pull rvs, boats still i felt old a moment /ranting thanks for the vid i'll try to update if it works for me, i think i have to buy two entire coils used to get the boot and maybe i should study aftermarket , it's good to learn to test the coils too (i'd need to look up ...i have a pilot valve driving me nuts , the idle jet breaks and the carbs are as much as a lower mileage motor but with no carb rack or airbox needed for correct performance if i went back from slide valves ......
Mines is still in my wire set. Looks like when I pulled it off it got stuck a bit so now it’s like at the tip of the wire instead of all the way inside.
The factory assembled part failed and so once you re-do it, it will fail again! The only way to avoid failure is to pull the boot back on brand new leads, apply some super glue and put the boot back in place. Wait 12 hours and then install. They’ll never ever fail!
the only time this has happened to me when I got a truck where the person just replaced the spark plugs and wires with copper plugs instead of double Platinum two weeks before I bought it with no grease in the spark plugs boot. I just decided to go ahead and replace the cables. I rather would not have taken a chance.
I don't understand how a cased wire makes contact with the metal couplink..tried soldering the wire, it just melts. Weird space stuff I reckon, but I crimped it back together and will try it out on the buddy's car
When your on tight budget it great solution get by but if going do spark plugs might as well do plug wires as there usually what ages the worst and cause misfire in first place unless new enough to where most vehicles use coil pack to spark plug now
Why do I get the feeling you were rough with the last one you checked, just so you could cover this topic? lol Just kidding, top notch content as always. Chuck
I am not sure if it is ok to use this as a permanent fix. I had to do this and it worked well. But don't forget that by shortening your spark plug wire, you will also lower the resistance. A lower resistance means that more current is generated, which in my case seems to have killed my ignition coil.
@@captainboose8788 they meant how did he get it out with the metal conductor on the end which he didn’t he used pliers to pull the conductor off then pulled spark plug out and put the conductor back on for the video to show what it looks like

Any sugggestions for divorcing the crimp from the plug? They’re not rusted or corroded but they are freaking married for eternity haha. I have the spark plug pliers, have tried twisting the wire and the spring coil, I’ve tried turning it in a wide circle, but so far the only way to get it is to eventually tear the rubber part, pull the coil, then pull off the crimp from the plug

You can buy one AC Delco spark plug wire from Advance Auto too.
No you can't
Yes, you can: Part No. 349V. Also at Amazon and Home Depot.

How do you get the rubber boot off of the wire to start with? I'm having a helluva time
i do the same thing but i use basic wire crimpers. they usually have a spark plug wire crimper built in
Still get the Aceel ceramic boot wires there completely worth it
Make sure the shortened cable still reaches the plug
Can I still use the spark wire by plugging it back in the hole with the metal piece still on the end of the spark plug?

What do yall do if the boot wont stay on the plug?
Why would it fail again? You did the same thing they do at the factory.
It would fail depending on the workmanship of someone doing it after watching the video
@@conesillyvalley7182 COULD fail, not would fail. And that's true of anything that anyone does on their vehicle.

The core is not "wire" any more. It's a ferrite-coated fiberglass strand, reducing radio interference while functioning as a high-voltage conductor.

I've had luck spinning the boot to crack it free then I pull the boot and wire at the same time both hands
