FYI, There are turnouts when you go up to Lake Arrowhead (or travelling up route 2 to Wrightwood), so that if you're going slow, you pull to the side and let the L.A. people who are in a rush pass
If you didn’t feel safe pulling over to let others pass then you did the right thing. You want to arrive alive not dead and you probably saved a few lives by driving safe instead of fast; and yes, those other drivers are assholes.
