I loved this so much when I was little but I remember being so confused about why the kids ran up onstage and magically had different clothes, and then they were suddenly back out in the audience cheering at the end! lol
1:33 that screen that tranforms them into multiple colors has given me such insperation for many of my books, ever since I was a kid I've absolutly loved this musical! ^^
I was in the seattle production of this at the paramount theater when I was 11 it was amazing and fun!! I was singing the choirs part the whole time I watched this, but for the stage production we wore multicolored cool outfist in this one the kids have on uniforms
My daddy was the pharaoh in the play at the church of Water of Life ... instead of holding a microphone , he held a guitar ... IT WAS AWESOME! mi daddy has a great voice!
This soundtrack is right up there with Jesus Christ Superstar. I see both plays every chance I get. I've seen both with professionals and kids....both are great.
No they don't. The colors in order are: red, yellow, green, brown, scarlet, black, ochre, peach, ruby, olive, violet, fawn, lilac, gold, chocolate, mauve, creame, crimson, silver, rose, azure, lemon, russet, gray, purple, white, pink, orange, and blue. I think what you think is a second "violet" is actually "lilac" They do sound similar when they sing it.
I litterally know EVERY word in this musical...I even know every color on the coat....does that mean i've watched this too much? haha, I don't care, this musical is the BEST!
her voice is amazing, I know, I sing, but her voice is so pure, and the other lady who sang in the part when the boys come home to tell Jacob his son died, well that lady hit a high C effortlessly, and quite, quite a vocal feat. I wish they made a more serious , dramatic musical, this is pretty fluffy stuff
In the Bible, the brothers had to go back home to get Benjamin; he wasn't with them on their first trip to Egypt. It wasn't until after Benjamin came with the bros. that Joseph revealed who he was. I guess that would have made the musical too long. Someone on another page of this said they thought the narrator should have worn Egyptian clothes instead of the modern clothes she wears. I disagree. For one thing she wouldn't have worn Egyptian clothes in Canaan. For another, there is a mixture of ancient and modern all through the musical such as the beach chair Jacob sits in, the narrator taking a picture of the family with a camera, the modern slang in the songs, the sunglasses, and on and on. I think this particular production is excellent. It's cast was perfect from Donny Osmond (handsome with a great voice), Robert Torti as the Pharaoh, the narrator (great voice and acting), each of the brothers, and Attenborough as Jacob. The only complaint I have is that the girls in Pharaoh's and Donny's courts look naked under the fishnet clothes they wear. (Or don't wear!)
@secondchild0011 no, it says in the song " his sons and his wives used to call him dad" also if you go by the actual bible, benjamin is the youngest and while this was happening he was supposedly around the age of 16.
" As an actor you have to look for the depth in the character..." if this were always true then Meryl Streep would never have done "Mamma Mia". There is merit in fluff even if it's just to forget about the world outside for a few hours. It's called "entertainment" for a reason. You can have both forms of entertainment, doesn't mean ALW is any less a genius than Sondheim, they are just different is all.
WAHHHHHHHHHH! i luv this movie its top of my list on netflix but we need 2 return the dvds we have so i want the sound fixed and the rest of the parts and i have all the songs on my ipod. im goin 2 c if they have this movie on itunes. bye!
Now that you've given me the time where you think it is, I know for sure. What you are hearing is "lilac". It sounds like "violet" because of the speed at which they are saying it and the amount of people saying it doesn't help either. It's lilac. This same problem has happened at stage productions, which is why they tell them really anunciate lilac in a way you wouldnt do in real life so the audience won't mistake it for violet.
All I can say is that Donny Osmond is perfect as Joseph xx 😘
luv it!! i have learnt the words 2 all the songs!!!! i think benjamin luvs joseph the best!!! envy those kids
I have not heard this song in about five years and I can still remember the exact order of all the colours :)
it takes a great amount of acting skill to look this cheesy and good at the same time- love it!

My daddy was the pharaoh in the play at the church of Water of Life ... instead of holding a microphone , he held a guitar ... IT WAS AWESOME! mi daddy has a great voice!
I'm not particularly religious, and I STILL think this is one of the best movies out there!
I was in this play at conejo players last year! This brings back so many memories! I still remember all the colors of the coat!

Its like fun got baked into a musical. LOVE IT.
it takes a man who knows no fear to wrestle with a goat!
My daddy was the pharaoh in the play at the church of Water of Life ... instead of holding a microphone , he held a guitar ... IT WAS AWESOME!
I mean, I’d be jealous if my little brother got a coat that stunning, and started bragging about it.
i love donny as joseph! i also love the snake puppet!
i auditioned for the narrator and i got it! i was so excited! :D
This soundtrack is right up there with Jesus Christ Superstar. I see both plays every chance I get. I've seen both with professionals and kids....both are great.
Out of sync but the sound is GREAT so it's not entirely useless

i agree i thought it looks like ben stiller
'now this coat has got our goat' this is foreshadowing the future where the coat is covered in goat.
the makeup on the brothers is hilarious!
well i dunno i like loads of musicals but in this its really really good but its good to have a bit of acting inbetween the songs
Haha I love the brothers at 7:15 - 7:30 and I love when Joseph and the snake see each other

When you think about it, that Narrator's getting it with the brothers...
Love this movie and love Joseph... But he seemed a bit conceited when he sings, "I look handsome, I look smart, I am a walking work of art~" xD

I find the Narrator so amazing in this
I did this in a school play once! I was Ruban and my line was "His talk of stars and golden sheaves is just a load of corn" lol!

I last watched this when I was 10. It has only occurred to me now, aged 17, that his brothers are both white and black... xD Makes sense.
