We watched Mark play this from about 10 feet away at Ronnie Scott's 20 years ago and many many other times since. One of the most evocative and beautiful songs ever written. Fabulous.

So lovely 🫶🏼❗️ I don’t know if anyone is going to see this comment, or even care about reading it, but just in case…I 1st heard this song in ‘15 when it was sent to me in a CD as the background music from a photo shoot. I met a man (who was the #1 professional Master Photographer in the all the UK countries) in Australia who lived in the UK (I’m from the US) and was on for a 3-week segment of the 108 day world cruise I was on. It was as though we were soulmates who knew each other our entire lives and we both fell in love ❤ immediately. He chose this song for the CD bc the lyrics were his way of telling me how he felt about us, and strangely enough, EVERY single phrase that Mark Knopfler sings in this song was 100% ‘our’ own reality - how we met, the circumstances, the distance between us and not being able to see each other often, what we had both been through in the past, and what we always thought about being never wanting to be in love again, etc. I still cry 😢 whenever I hear this song as he sadly passed away after we’d been in a long distance (GU) relationship with one another for a little over 2 1/2 years until he was shortly after been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I was 60 when we met and it’s now 7 yrs later - I don’t think I’ll ever find anyone else who could possibly make me feel as he did, and at that time neither one of us even even wanted to be in a relationship with anyone AGAIN - but all things happen for a reason. I don’t care about the 👎 comments other people say about this song, but for me it’s a very special one and always will be, plus I think MK is very talented as both a 🎸 and 🎤!
