    First....I am a DIY husband. Not a professional. My washer was doing several things. Dancing across floor on spin cycle, agitating when filling, but most of all it smelled! Your video is the most accurate when it comes to curing the odor. Because of the repairs I had to make I actually removed the inner tub. Yuk... the grime and mold was terrible. would love to share the pictures. I have it back together and it is running great. Oh yeah. Now it smells like new :-) Thanks for the help. And everyone else. You are wasting your time thinking that you can run something through the machine to clean it. You have to take it apart and clean it. Again. Thanks.

      yep removing the tub is the best way, it has been a few yrs, mine stinks so i throw everything in the back of the truck and go to the power wash.

    Please tell your wife THANK YOU, from this wife trying to DIY in KC!

    Thanks. This approach saved our washer -- a little diluted bleach and a few hours work instead of new machine. Only thing I would add is that I put a small hand mirror inside the white perforated drum and saw yet more mold on underside of top lip. Our machine has these small compartments there, I think designed to reduce splashing and sloshing ... but those small pockets also retain some lint and detergent and mold. Sprayed with diluted bleach bottle. Then flushed it out using a garden hose and spray nozzle turned upward. If you do it carefully the water all runs back into washer drum. Just do another rinse cycle to get rid of dirty water.

    THANK YOU!!!! 😘 Started noticing horrible stinky water when doing laundry. Causing our clothes to sink like cesspool and needing to be re-washed! I did some research also and tried the vinegar and Borax cleaning suggestion. The wash was good for a little while but it came back! 😈
    After thinking about it, I realized the problem was really bad when no wash was done for several days? I never thought to take the drum top off. I have a feeling it would make sense for the nasty, dry, hard water, phosphate impregnated crude to become "really stinky" after getting wet again! Wish me luck 🍀!

I hate doing laundry here the past 4 years. Normally I love doing laundry. I will be doing this ASAP. I am not the manager here (above his pay grade) but the tenants will appreciate this. They come to me for things to fix. I have an amoire (big tv cabinet) that holds all my tools etc.

    OMG... I want to barf. We are living in an apartment that is about 8-9 years old, and noticed recently that the washer was stinky. It's probably the one installed with the apartment so about that age. I've tried all the usual Google suspects - bleach, vinegar, baking soda. To no avail. I ran across this video, which I showed hubby. He pried the top open to the washer and looked, and it was worse than yours. >.< Since we are renting, there's no way we are going to tear this thing apart - it doesn't belong to us, not to mention no room and we're on the 3rd floor. He called the office and told them they have to clean it out or replace it. It's disgusting! They're coming Tuesday. Thank you for posting this, even if your wife was grossed out, lol. Obviously, it's a real issue!

    Thanks so much for the amazing video!!! I have used OxiClean Versatile Stain Remover Powder & Melaleuca Melapower 6x Liquid Detergent since I bought my Kitchenaid Superba washing Machine in 2002....because the tea tree oil in the liquid detergent should be removing all of this "stuff" out of the machine as well as cleaning my clothes. I will let you know what I find when I take my washing machine apart next week!!!

    Good lord! I bought this fixer-upper dump with a Maytag washer and decided to get it going but it smelled like a cow fell in and died. Your vid gave me confidence to take it apart and clean it. Man, it only takes a little bit of build up to make a BIG smell. Now it runs great and no smells. This house I've lived in for 21 has a washer I bought brand new 21 years ago. I have never cleaned it, I have never done anything to it and it has "0" smells. I became curious about my 21 year old washer and how it works compared to the one from the dump and noticed it needs a new belt so I will finally have to do something to that one. I've always used perfume-free, powdered Arm&hammer in that 21 washer, but the dump I bought has a septic, I have to look into the comment you made about that. Thanks for posting the vid.

    Holy hell, thanks so much for this video. I bought my first washer a month ago and it was used. Smelled fine at first but eventually started to REEEEAAK. I tried the bleach/water or vinegar/water cycles and nothing worked. When I pulled it apart i found same thing as yours. About 1/8" layer of nasty gunk. Now everything smells great (like a swimming pool)!
    Thanks again.

  • @LindaEskin
    @LindaEskin 8 лет назад

    Yep. That's us. Maytag with a few years on it, liquid detergent, septic... Our washer smells like a swamp. :-(
    We also wash most things on cold, and do lots of half-loads. Our washer is smart enough to know how much laundry is in it, and only fills halfway. So the top half doesn't get rinsed out like it might with lots of full loads on hot. Hmm...
    Thank you for your video. I think Sunday afternoon is going to involve dragging the washer out onto the driveway and tearing it apart. Joy.

    Depending on where you live you might be able to do a grey water system and use washer water out in your yard to water trees but if that isn't an option we use Ariel laundry powder detergent and it's phosphate free
