100%. My top loader has been sitting in my garage for 5 years. It was almost brand new when I moved to this townhouse that had a front loader in it which I used until it died. (Control panel). I switched them out and EEEWWWWWW it stinks and has made my clothes stink. I owned a pet grooming business that required a heavy duty washer o do towels all day long, so needless to say, the nearly new washer to a massive beating with a very dirty and filthy hairy stick so to speak) so it doesn't surprise me that it's like this. But I am concerned about what the cost will be to have a company clean it like this, but it NEEDS it so so bad. I was able to get the top part off where the fabric softener goes. I have no idea how much might have been used, I don't typically use it, but I had roommates that may have and tyw mold and filthy residue inside that part tells me it's in bad shape dirt wise. The washer was in the room where I bathed the dogs and it got filthy. My clothes were fine until now so letting it sit.....well I had had a feeling it would take more than a washing machine cleaner tablet or 5 and needs professional help! Thanks for posting this video. I'm not going to try this myself although my daughter may want to. I think it's worth the cost of getting it done.......unless I can't afford it. But the washer itself is larger and "heavy duty" so there's no way we're getting rid of it. Finding one was nearly impossible 6 years ago!
As a qualified service engineer I love to know how things like this work, I had changed motors and bearings on washing machines, but just paid out for a new machine as my one had a faulty control board, $130 on a old machine did not make sense, keep up the great videos and I may start repairing them 👍
This was actually easier than i thought it would be. Thank you... will there be a video on how to clean a dryer? Mine is an older model I got with my house. I'm sure it's collected its share of lint over the years.
Hey Cole, there are quite a few videos on RUclips about cleaning your dryer which is why we haven’t made one yet. That being said, we will eventually put a video out on it for sure! I’m glad this video could help!
I have burned through several electronic washing machines but still have my 1989 Kenmore with the fabric softener dispenser in the agitator top. You featured this one time. @Derrickwith2rs. When I took that dispenser off to change out the dog ears, it was loaded with wax everywhere. I scraped it off with a plastic putty knife and a kitchen spatula. I use white vinegar. I never use fragrance, so it wasn't such a drastic change for me like others who are nose blind addicted to fragrance. They think that clean means stinking of bleach and fragrance crystals (huge waste of money). I wonder if my tub looks like the one you showed.
Taking it apart....and most of all putting it back together again is what makes me sure I need some professional help. I wonder who to call and what the cost would typically be
Glad I gotta chance looking at your contents question do you have videos on microwave and stove and refrigerators that would be awesome I am a appliance technician too thank you brother 👊🏾
Hey! We took a break off RUclips for a bit, however, are getting things started again and we will absolutely have content coming out on all things appliances :)
A lot of appliances come apart the exact same way, however, GE does things pretty specifically. The wash plates inside these washing machines can be incredibly tedious to remove.
Hey Shane! I just started making content recently. As of right now I have shorts that come out twice a week and 1 long for video per week. We plan on increasing that as fast as we can! Thank you for the support!
Possibly on the inside tub, definitely not on the outside tub considering it is made of plastic. Even with the inside tub, I'd consider using something a little more gentle.
You had to disassemble the entire machine, though. I just watched a couple other videos that say you just need to pour bleach down where the external drain is that goes into the wall.
Be warned I did this and broke the locking plastics for the outside barrel. Please be patient with it. I have it zip tied now Also the inner tub has stuck in there good. Had to use a 3 clamp jaw with a chain vice grip to remove
These older direct drive washing machines are far superior to any washing machine on the market today in terms of durability, however, front load washing machines wash your clothes better and are more energy efficient
What are the chances your washing machine looks like this on the inside? Let me know!
Appdude. Is there a school or a job training program?

You made it so easy to understand that I think this 60 yr old, mechanically challenged lady could actually do this! Thank you!
Hey Marsha! I’m so happy you think this video could help. It’s definitely a big job but I know there are people out there who would want to do it!
Me too!

What is the long tool attached to the drill when you put the agitator back on?
Hey Tryme, it’s just a long 1/4 drill extension lol. Then attached to it I have 12mm socket bit!

There is only one way to find out! You have to take it apart aha!

Hi, from TikTok. Thank you for all the help. My appliance has no issues, but never a dull moment to learn. Much appreciation!
Hey means a lot to me that you’d reach out! Thank you!
Is using free and clear lysol laundry sanitizer bad for washing machines?

I have a GE Harmony Washer and Dryer.
How difficult would it be to remove and clean the tub on the washing machine?
A lot of appliances come apart the exact same way, however, GE does things pretty specifically. The wash plates inside these washing machines can be incredibly tedious to remove.
We used to clean washing machines with citric acid on a 60C wash at proctor and gamble.
This is interesting! Thanks for commenting!
What detergent do you recommend to use for our washer? For it not to get dirty ?
If you have an HE machine, I recommend only using 1 to 2 tablespoons of HE detergent. The chemistry is meant to work with the washing machine.
This is a great video. Can you do a video on other laundry additives like bleach, bleach pods, OxiClean powder, and stain remover spray?
I like this idea! What would you like to see as it pertains to this idea?
A video for front loader would be great.
Hey! What front loader do you have? We’ve had a few request for this so we’re considering launching it!

Your videos are awesome! Are their more than like 5 vidoes or am I overlooking them?
Hey Shane! I just started making content recently. As of right now I have shorts that come out twice a week and 1 long for video per week. We plan on increasing that as fast as we can! Thank you for the support!
@@theappliancedudes Greatly appreciated ! I look forward to it. Thanks for the quick reply!
@@shanefraley6678 of course! We appreciate you interacting with the channel. Cheers, brother!
Omg you just saved me money. How do I start a side hustle
We have a free course coming out soon! Stay tuned!
Could I just use a pressure washer for the inner tub? (1700 psi)
Possibly on the inside tub, definitely not on the outside tub considering it is made of plastic. Even with the inside tub, I'd consider using something a little more gentle.
So informative! Thank You!
No problem! We're glad you enjoyed the video!
How does this process work with a GE Hydrowave washer?
It’s more or less the same on any washing machine. They just come apart differently!
would this work on a portable top loading washer by chance
Yes any washing machine can be taken apart and cleaned. Of course, some harder than others
Thank you❤
Of course!
Can you make a similar video for lg top loader? 🥺
Yes! We have one coming out soon
What about a pressure washer for inner tube?
For the inner tub yes. Outer tub, definitely not!
I do maintenance for apartments whatcha gotbon ge trouble shooting
Here’s my advice for GE. Stay away from them!
Do you have a contact number and do you know how I can get the fabric softener smell out of our front loader?
You had to disassemble the entire machine, though. I just watched a couple other videos that say you just need to pour bleach down where the external drain is that goes into the wall.
You must have watched someone else! I have never made a video about bleach
I know my washer is that gross. My washer smells like mold or mildew. I'm going to try to clean it. Wish me luck!
Best of luck!!!
Where are you located?
Near Toronto Ontario!
@@theappliancedudes is there much money to be made? I'm currently an elevator mechanic and I've done shadowing as an appliance service tech.
@@erikthorvaldsson9136 there is a lot of money to be made, especially if you repair, refurbish your own appliances. Depends on location as well
@@theappliancedudes I really wanted to do it but I got a job offer as an elevator mechanic before I could go to school for it
@@erikthorvaldsson9136 I went to online school for appliance repair; and as long as you have some appliances to practice on you’ll be completely fine!
Thx
No problem
The spanner link is missing, and it ain’t 17 bux
Fabric softener is a disgusting thing to use
I always just got a gallon of 29% hydrogen peroxide and ran it. I get it at my local grow store
Be warned
