100%. My top loader has been sitting in my garage for 5 years. It was almost brand new when I moved to this townhouse that had a front loader in it which I used until it died. (Control panel).
I switched them out and EEEWWWWWW it stinks and has made my clothes stink. I owned a pet grooming business that required a heavy duty washer o do towels all day long, so needless to say, the nearly new washer to a massive beating with a very dirty and filthy hairy stick so to speak) so it doesn't surprise me that it's like this. But I am concerned about what the cost will be to have a company clean it like this, but it NEEDS it so so bad. I was able to get the top part off where the fabric softener goes. I have no idea how much might have been used, I don't typically use it, but I had roommates that may have and tyw mold and filthy residue inside that part tells me it's in bad shape dirt wise. The washer was in the room where I bathed the dogs and it got filthy. My clothes were fine until now so letting it sit.....well I had had a feeling it would take more than a washing machine cleaner tablet or 5 and needs professional help! Thanks for posting this video. I'm not going to try this myself although my daughter may want to. I think it's worth the cost of getting it done.......unless I can't afford it. But the washer itself is larger and "heavy duty" so there's no way we're getting rid of it. Finding one was nearly impossible 6 years ago!

As a qualified service engineer I love to know how things like this work, I had changed motors and bearings on washing machines, but just paid out for a new machine as my one had a faulty control board, $130 on a old machine did not make sense, keep up the great videos and I may start repairing them 👍

I have burned through several electronic washing machines but still have my 1989 Kenmore with the fabric softener dispenser in the agitator top. You featured this one time. @Derrickwith2rs. When I took that dispenser off to change out the dog ears, it was loaded with wax everywhere. I scraped it off with a plastic putty knife and a kitchen spatula. I use white vinegar. I never use fragrance, so it wasn't such a drastic change for me like others who are nose blind addicted to fragrance. They think that clean means stinking of bleach and fragrance crystals (huge waste of money). I wonder if my tub looks like the one you showed.

    • @theappliancedudes

A lot of appliances come apart the exact same way, however, GE does things pretty specifically. The wash plates inside these washing machines can be incredibly tedious to remove.
