    This video was amazing!! I followed every step, and mine is on a 90’ cycle as I write this, the load is halfway, and my drum is half full of what looks like dirty water, and other half has lots of soap! So it’s definitely working! I can’t wait to do a load now! Thanks from Stace in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 😁

    Thanks for this! I liked the pro tip of pouring water by the lid/washer interface to get that gunk out of there. I tilted the lid up and ran it down the lid to get the gunk there to flush out. Only thing I'd add is I tried dumping the solution into the bleach reservoir with impunity like in the video, but didn't read the "Max 1 cup" note on the washer and got overflow out the bottom of my Whirlpool. Noted for next time, I even put the wife's toothbrush back, just as recommended!
    I'm hoping this done a couple of times a year, plus a recommendation in another video of using a funnel to pour one cup of bleach down the pipe where one sticks the washer's water outlet tube (which should have a trap down there gathering gunk) to let sit overnight, will get rid of the odor issues.

    This only cleans the drum. To fully eliminate odors, you have to disassemble the machine to remove the drum from the tub and clean the interior of the drum. What often happens is the residue will cling to the tub which you can't see by looking into the drum. Routinely doing the vinegar/baking soda reduces the buildup inside the tub. Sadly many never do a cleaning of their washing machine and the buildup gets so bad that nothing gets rid of the odor.

      I just bought new lg washer and dryer’s. It’s about a 10 minute operation to unscrew the agitator, lift the top, remove the white ring and lift the tub out. The plastic outer tub and outside of the removed inner need scrubbed and cleaned with bleach and a hose or pressure washer. Leave the top up after each wash and use a cleaning agent monthly!!!

    If you have your washer next to a large sink/basin, you can hookup a short water hose and rinse out the upper areas of the washer much easier. Or just use your regular garden hose if it will reach from outside.

    • @chelelee6321
      @chelelee6321 2 года назад +2

      I believe it's actually soap scum from the laundry detergent packs I use in mine. Also, the additives, to make laundry smell good, leave an ungodly amount of residue in the holes in the drum. Over time, that greasy residue collects filth from dirty clothes and starts smelling. This video is the perfect thing to use to get rid of it, though. I stopped using the additives altogether after seeing what a mess it made of my machine.

I've already done a hot water full capacity wash with Clorox bleach, and the next step I will be doing is the same thing but using the distilled white vinegar I have on hand. I would be concerned about the vinegar eating up the rubber hose lines so I won't use that. Baking soda should be ok.

    Can you please explain to me why you use bicarb soda and vinegar??
    One is acidic… the other is alkaline. So they cancel each other out!!

      Vinegar and baking soda only cancel each other out if you use them together. They don't cancel each other if you use them in separate wash cycles, like he did in this demo.

      I would try Oxy Clean (make a paste with water).... Always let your product sit a while, to give it time to do its thing. Mold killing and stain removal is work for the product, and it needs time to do it. 😊

      I make a paste with water and baking soda and scrub the gasket with it. It really helps get the grime off. The other comments here are very good too.

    This does nothing vinegar and baking soda neutralize each other leaving nothing but salt water

    • @chelelee6321
      @chelelee6321 2 года назад +1

      I have found that the sudsing caused by adding the two can be very useful, though. I've had it push clogs/grime out of sink drains. I am not sure, but perhaps it does the same in the washer pump and hoses.

  • @erikal5218
    @erikal5218 4 года назад +1

    Mixing baking soda and vinegar neutralizes both.... meaning the properties of each, that give their their efficacy, become inert.
    This is because vinegar is acidic, and baking soda is alkaline.
