  • In this podcast episode, DARE coaches Michelle Cavanaugh and Aida Beco emphasized focusing on patterns rather than specific situations and highlight the importance of defusing anxiety through behavioral changes. They discussed the importance of accepting and allowing anxiety, rather than trying to fight it. They also talked about the different ways that people try to control anxiety, and why these methods often don't work. One of the key takeaways from this episode is that anxiety is not a threat, but a fear. When we try to control our anxiety, we are actually reinforcing the fear. Instead, we should focus on defusing the anxiety by accepting it and allowing it to be there.
Aida and Michelle also addressed the common recurrence of anxiety and the need to reflect on life events. Their conversation touches on intrusive thoughts, social anxiety, and the imagination, encouraging listeners to accept and keep going despite challenges.

I had a really good realisation about this the other day, because I have gone crazy and been hospitalised a few times so I know what it's actually like, and never not once have I ever while in that state of mind had the thought "what I I've gone or am going crazy". Nor do I monitor anything during a psychotic break.
The fact that a thought like that shows up means you're not crazy. Not saying to pay attention to it, just that it's an oxymoron.

Been watching horror and psychological thriller movies because I enjoyed them before the anxiety hit as well as going out a lot more in the day.
I feel worse physical sensation and fatigue wise but at the same time so much more myself.

I work in security and today at work I had to defuse a fight, on my own, and afterwards I remember thinking how it's so true that when you need adrenaline, you don't get scared of it. I said thank you to my adrenaline afterwards for keeping me alert in case I got punched lol

My head is so tense especially around my eyes. I have difficulty keeping them relaxed open. All my facial muscles freeze What is this? I have it chronically 😢I am having difficulty to use my facial muscles to smile. It’s like my whole brain feels frozen and on the other hand empty and without support. But then I also have the headband sensation around my tamples eyes forehead. How to ignor this when I have to keep my eyes open the whole day bit the tension is so strong. I have to figt against it. If I don’t I would have to walk with eyes closed

Very normal. Adrenaline causes muscle tension and our delicate facial muscles and nerves get tired from the micro expressions our faces pull from worry and fear. You’re unbreakable from anxiety - it’s a normal bodily process like digestion or tiredness. It’s unpleasant but never dangerous.
