Thank you for making the video. I'm a seamstress of more than 40 years. I have gone through "slumps" that lasted weeks, months, and even years. During those times I usually had no desire to sew anything. However the gift of creativity has never totally abandoned me. I like how you mentioned about seasons. No season is forever. Good or bad. I am recovering from narcissistic abuse. It has taken me almost 3 years to sort of get my groove back. My sewing machine has been my therapist during those times. I am glad we as a society has accepted that is okay to not be okay 24/7/365. Your video helped me to pinpoint where I currently am so thank you so much for making it!
Jillian, I love what you said about your machine being your therapist. As tricky as things might get, we can give ourselves the grace to power through - So I say, thank you so so much for sharing. You're inspiring many people with your words. Lots of love xx
i can definitely relate, and describing it as "seasons" is highly apropos. my family is from the Caribbean, so i didn't really grow up around so much of the more elaborate African designs. it is really interesting to see how they are constructed and i LOVE all the beautiful Ankara prints, so your present focus on tops will be greatly enjoyed in this tiny corner of the Craftiverse.
Hi Juliet I feel you. I stopped watching your channel because I "lost" myself and had no enthusiasm for making anything, I did make things here and there, but not as much. Unfortuately, being a front line worker, I had no rest during lockdown, had to go to work, travel on public transport, be in close proximity with people day in and out. We will, I believe, get back ourselves, come hell or high water. We got this
YES!!! a very resounding yes! I say this because of your last words. We’ll get back to a better place come hell or high water!!!! Thank you so much Vee xxx
Oh thank you so much, I have been recently struggling so much, with my self esteem and weight issues. Too listen to your video and hear that you and others have been going through similar experiences made me feel not alone. I also feel like not bothering to make anything as I don’t want to make bigger sizes. Thanks again for this video.
I’m struggling with all of the aforementioned seasons atm Juliet, and I’m struggling to even know what to sew because my body has changed SO much due to menopause. I literally look 8 months pregnant all the time and nothing is shifting it. I just don’t have a clue about what will suit my shape any more. I’ll keep wearing my baggy tops for the time being until I find something that I can feel good in. Your positivity is encouraging Juliet, we need to stop being so hard on ourselves and learn to love every facet that makes us who we are 💕💕
Dear Juliet, thank you for sharing this video. I appreciate your honesty. I hear you and feel you, because I can certainly relate. You are such a blessing and I adore you. Holding you and your family in prayer. May 2023 bring you loads of love, peace, health and prosperity. God bless xxx
Thank you for all your videos and sewing book and help sewing online your a wonderful lady. an your bodies constantly change over the years trust me . 8 yrs ago i was 112 and a size 12 now im at 300 and a size 16-18 it always fluctuates are bodies are crazy.. just be happy with the beautiful woman you are !!!!
So nice to see this, I'm in the "can't stand my body" phase, owning a new business & stressing that it won't work plus added stresses. Hopefully I can get past this & things will get better ❤️ Natalie xx (Oh sew good fabrics) xxx
I'm only now watching this video and it hits so many points. Past few months my body's changed and I've got more of a bigger middle than I used to. I'm struggling to find clothes I like to wear as I don't want to bring attention to the area I'm not happy with. I'm hoping this will pass soon.
❤❤❤ this inspirational talk. I only recently discovered your wonderful sewing videos, subscribed, and have made only one comment before this on your tutorial showing how to insert side pockets using stretch fabric. Warm wishes from South Australia. 🐾
I relate to a lot of the things you are saying. I lost my enthusiasm to sew about a year ago and felt so bad about it (especially since I have a huge stash 🤦🏻♀️). But, after months of feeling guilty and trying various things to fire up my enthusiasm, I've come to realise that the most import gift we can give ourselves is permission to change. Change our behaviours, or friends, our environment, the boxes we've put ourselves in during our lives, and our hobbies and interests. If my sewing mojo doesn't come back, or it's space in my life is filled by something else, then it's all ok. The stash can find a home, the machines can find a home and life will keep on rolling :)
Hi. I know exactly how you feel. I had two new knees last year and thought I would be filled with energy and enthusiasm for my new mobility. I’m at the point of what now. Just finding my way day by day. Just keep walking. Each step is a step along the path 😘
Your video came in today on a day when I don't feel okay and your comments about the seasons in life is such a good way to look at things. Thank you for making this video and for your honesty and positivity x
OH WOW its ok not to be ok what a timely video as i lie in bed and do nothing i am having heath issues myself but your video gave me courage that there are things i can do to help myself i feel for you as i also suffered with endometriosis my daughter also it is good to know others suffer also and have the courage to go on thank you so much 🥰
Thanks for sharing , I’m glad that I’m not alone ,when feeling not wanting to do any sewing. I understand that it’s ok ,not to be ok at times. Keep up the good work Juliet 🙏🏾
This video is spot on for me right now as I am still in the process of launching back into creating and making dresses as frequently as I used to. I am in the phase where I do not want to undergo making projects that will take hours/days sitting on the sewing machine. However, I am taking baby steps to ease into creating more frequently as I used to. God help and strengthen us all
You will never reach rock bottom 🙏🏾 I can totally relate to this video but I’m often uplifted by the quote “To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.” -Winston Churchill Always in your corner and cheering you on 👏🏾 🫶🏾
I've been trying to get back to sewing for years now, due to weight gain, I can't get motivated. I hate others feel like this too, but it helps people like me. Thank you for those encouraging words.
Thanks you so much for sharing, Juliet. I feel like we, as a sewing community, are a sort of self help group and while I'm a bit sad to see you struggle, it's also comforting to see someone with your "standing" be real (I hope you know what I mean. There's no schadenfreude here!). I wish you all the best. A brighter season is just around the corner and we, your sewing buddies, will stick it out with you! Love, elisa
You're not alone. There's time for everything under the sun. A time to sow and a time to reap. A time we have to be quiet and a time to come out. It's descerning these seasons in our lifes that matters. Sometimes, we need to step out of our normal comfort zone and step into new discoveries. Remember, nothing we've been through is wasted. There's a lesson to learn or an impact we can make in other people's lifes through our experiences. They make us be who we are designed to be. Stay strong 💪.
Babe, you're so right, it is okay not to be okay. And it's totally right and needful to walk away sometimes. You know I've been all in my feels too. You're an amazing creator and I never know how you get it all done with teaching too! Keep giving yourself grace and enjoy new avenues. And here's to more beautiful dresses and statement sleeves! Xx
Julia dont worry you can lose the weight if you wish you are my fave since the sewing bee and it's always nice to see a video from you. i am in my 40s and hitting gym 3x a week and it's a slow process but it's good to move and feel strong. much love from Scotland
Thank you for your video ❤ I’m struggling, I sprained both my ankles end of august and I’m now at my heaviest ever. I think you’re such a beautiful kind person and I really appreciate you sharing this. Take care. ❤
My daughter is 23yrs old and suffers from endometriosis and was only diagnosed about 2 years ago, and has mental health issues. I never realised how much this affects her day to day life. So I understand how you feel. Stay strong you are a wonderful person and you always seem to be a happy lady. Love watching your makes.💖
Thank you so much for this video. I have plenty of inspiration but no motivation. I am trying to accept these changes and hope I turn around this winter. Again, thank you and you are a blessing to us.😊
Thank you for your honesty in making and sharing this video, it can't have been easy. I'm in a similar place regarding body issues, so much so that I couldn't face taking any pictures of myself during my winter sun holiday over Christmas, even though I'd made lovely clothes to wear. I was disappointed in myself, however, I've chosen to be kind to myself, something I've not always done in the past, and will focus on being intentional on what I eat. Isn't CrossFit amazing? I did it for a few years and was the fittest and strongest I have ever been until I did my knees in! My advice to you is to enjoy it but be sure to wear good knee supports. This season will pass and you will emerge refreshed and renewed, that's my hope for you. Xx
I’m 55. I’ve been a size 8 and a 24 I’m somewhere around a 16/18 now . Last year I embraced body confidence. Dressing my body how I want to- rather than how I feel society suggests I should. I’ve been fully me made for 2 years I’ve better fit, more colour and more pleasure in my wardrobe now and a healthier approach to food, balance and moderation. Well done for being honest, we need more of it x
Happy new year to you Juliet and your beautiful family. I love you honesty continue your journey it is great and I love what you do bravo to you Peace Love and Light to you and your family Bella ❤️ 💕 ❤️ 💕
