A great little tip I learnt in the Royal Marine Commandos, at night before you go bed, heat up a load of water, put it back in your water bottle, drop it in bottom of your sleeping bag to keep your toes warm, and when you use it in the morning you use less fuel to reheat it to cook with.
You wouldn't think you could be outside at -6 in a sleeping bag & be warm enough to see you through to morning, i spose with the right gear & planning you can do this , well done young lady
I adore how you show things not going to plan, but still adapt to enjoy. You make me want to rethink my life choices!!! Please keep producing this content & let me know how I can support you from the states.
Bear, you can take branches from other trees, 1 or 2 from each and interspersed with those on the tree , add, moss, bracken leaves etc to make a very wether proof shelter.
Only just discovered your channel a few days ago and already watched most of the films. Makes a refreshing change from the normal beardy blokes and expensive kit to find someone more realistic and relatable showing that things don’t always go to plan, and you don’t always need the most expensive kit to get out there and enjoy time in nature. Looking forward to your next films and wish you the best for all your future adventures.
@@WildBeare It shows you have such passion and a great inspiration that I’ve now got my old tarp and camping gear out of storage and thinking of doing wild camping LOL😂. Looking forward to your test on the OneTigris Backwood Budgalow. Will it be better than tarp and Bivvy?🤔
Yes, good comments... I get a bit sick, or tired, as a man, watching other men doing wild camps. Nice to have a feminine touch , without a beard obviously..I HOPE SHE TAKES CARE. (I ONCE DID A WILD CAMP IN A SMALL TENT & IT WAS MINUS 10 or thereabouts, but I only had a couple of t-shirts & jeans on, & not a very thick s.bag. I made sure plenty of insulation under me.
Exactly my thougts! These serious bushcraft guys are too often focused on a gear and expensive stuff. It looks like these fancy things are more important for them than camping itself. It's so ridiculous 😅 That's why I instantly loved this channel. Simplicity, unpretentiousness, realism and zero snobbish talk about Stuff, it's so pleasant to watch❤
Many years ago I bivvied in mid-winter in a beech grove buried under a large heap of dead leaves; great insulation and a very warm night. No bivvy bag just a ground sheet and lots of leaves.
I love these videos, no drama , no hearing a noise in the woods and thinking it must be a ghost or a Werewolf, like so many other channels, just calm relaxed chilled out bliss ❤
I camped like this under a large Spruce tree. Gently pinned the long lower branches to the ground for walls/roof.Very cosy and made Spruce tea 🍵 🌲in the morning from the leaves 😋..Awesome 🌳🌲🔥🌳🌲🔥
One of the things in life that I always look forward to when I pop onto RUclips is seeing a new video posted by Claire, its one of the bright sunny spots on what otherwise might have been a gloomy day.. Thanks Claire for all you do ! 🤓
Nice video. The tree prevents the radiation of heat to the sky, i.e., the open areas cool faster than under the tree. I love camping in below freezing weather. If you have the right gear and preparations, it is very comfortable. I have slept in a sleeping bag in a tent at -18 deg F (-28 deg. C) in Vermont in the winter. It definitely helps to use the hand warmers in your down booties and hot water in bottles in the sleeping bag to pre-heat it as well as keep you warm.
Ya know, the feel of freezing and the sight of crystals forming on the ground would send me running to the insulation of my car.!!! But, Claire, no, no.! She and nature find each other charming, and an unfolding and fascinating mystery. That’s one of the many reasons I love this channel.!!! ❤
Camping is the adventure! You have to improvise at a moments notice and at any time of the day. Embrace it, learn from it and move on. What a wonderful video. Happy camping Claire!
I keep trying to find something new and fresh to leave in the comments, but there’s just no getting around the qualities that make all of your videos special. Beyond the great videography, photography, editing and terrific music, there’s a beautiful woman with a tremendous heart, an unstoppable, adventurous spirit and a kind and compassionate soul. You are amazing, and hearing your voice talking about your experience and the world around you always makes me smile. 🥰 Wishing you all the very best.

This is so cool! It's amazing to see you brave the cold and go stealth camping in a busy forest at below freezing temperatures. The footage is breathtaking and I love how you captured the beauty of nature in the wintertime. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing your adventure with us!
Thank you for giving us that oh so lovely to look at frosty night under those incredible stars. I continue to live vicariously through your marvelous adventures whilst remaining toasty warm and dry inside my house. One day, however, I shall venture forth.
Try using a wide mouth 1 litre Nalgene as a hot water bottle. I fill it with just off the boil hot water and wrap with any item of clothing to avoid scalding my feet. By morning it’s still lukewarm and speeds up making yourself a hot drink. I just walked the Coleridge Way, 52 miles, and had awful weather - torrential rain, sleet, high winds etc and it feels amazing to get under my quilt with my hot water bottle.
To me Aldebaran is one of the most beautiful stars in the sky. That slow shutter speed also caught the Pleiades in all of their glory.... Didn't see if anyone else covered it but when ground camping always remember "Head up feet down," if you can't find a flat spot.

Great video, a great piece of advice from a Finnish friend is he always drapes a microfiber towel over his face when he sleeps outdoors which I've done since, just stops the cold air dropping onto your face.
years ago on a training mission, the weather turned by very quickly, there was no time to get a shelter. I saw 2 huge pine trees maybe 20 plus feet across. As the leader I hustled us over to them and set up like u did. great video
Such a fun looking lil' overnighter Claire! A bit chilly for sure, but incredibly beautiful with all of that frost covering everything in the morning 😍 It was pretty cool to see how much added warmth that tree provided you as well. Thanks for sharing another fun and unique adventure! I hope that you have an absolutely amazing weekend my friend! :) Stay wild.... 🐻 -John
Just been looking at your early videos, boy have you come a long way with your productions. What a journey, can barely wait to see where another 12 months takes you. Please don’t ever get bored doing these!!🙂🙂🙂
Lovely video! Yes, trees and bushes can keep you warm. My late father used to say that the forest is the poor mans overcoat. He loved stealth camping and bushcraft, especially when he was young. I remember one of his stories about sleeping under a spruce in winter and waking up totally covered in snow. The little tree you are camping under in this video seems to be some species of hemlock-spruce.
Ahh that's a lovely phrase, they really can make quite a difference 🌲 I've always found it amazing how much more sheltered and warm a forest is than out on moors or mountains, which is obvious I suppose. But it fascinates me even more how I can sleep in a lil microclimate under a tree that's considerably warmer than the air just a few feet away That sounds amazing to sleep under a spruce and wake up to snow 😍 thank you for the species info, it was a lovely lil tree. I adore evergreens Have a lovely weekend ☺️ 🌿🐻
I've been going out in Connecticut and Massachusetts to winter hike at primitive sites for a years and wanting to find a spot near home. You're inspiring to go out to the dog park, which has miles of trails.
I was outside doing some astrophotography when it was -3° about a month back, I layered up like mad but only could do about 3-4 hours before I came back inside
I made use of a pine tree as an emergency shelter but it was summer and I got turned around because of fog. I put down some brows and slept pretty good. The next morning the fog lifted and I was able to get my bearings. Claire you are a hard case Camper and I think you Are Super Giirl. Keep having fun and making videos. Luv ya and remember Nature is Gods Handiwork.
If you store your water bottle upside down in cold temperatures, the ice will form on the top of the water and therefore not block the top of your bottle when you turn it up the right way to use it.

Just been looking at your early videos, boy have you come a long way with your productions. What a journey, can barely wait to see where another 12 months takes you. Please don’t ever get bored doing these!!🙂🙂🙂
Girl you have so much courage! Respect!
Always makes me laugh the way you look around and when you spot people, it’s as though you’re having a “stealth poo!!” 😂😂
A shit.
Amazing video. Thank you for sharing yar adventures.
Beautiful tree, thanks for sharing.
But it fascinates me even more how I can sleep in a lil microclimate under a tree that's considerably warmer than the air just a few feet away
That sounds amazing to sleep under a spruce and wake up to snow 😍 thank you for the species info, it was a lovely lil tree. I adore evergreens
Have a lovely weekend ☺️ 🌿🐻
Fir.
I've been going out in Connecticut and Massachusetts to winter hike at primitive sites for a years and wanting to find a spot near home. You're inspiring to go out to the dog park, which has miles of trails.
Clair, always relaxing to watch your videos. You have a calm voice.
Minimalist camping, love it.
If you store your water bottle upside down in cold temperatures, the ice will form on the top of the water and therefore not block the top of your bottle when you turn it up the right way to use it.
