Rhet's explination is a perfect example of what Paul meant when he said, "Althpugh they claim to be wise, they became fools & exchanged the glory of the imortal God for images..." I pray that they find the way back to The God of The Bible/ to Jesus Christ & find healing for the pain that caused them to deconstruct in the first place.

    • @jackaltwinky77

First problem: We don’t know if any of them actually did “Die” for their beliefs, as they all disappear from history, outside of church traditions, besides John, James, and Peter
2nd: willingness to die for their beliefs does not mean the beliefs are facts. Branch Davidians, Heaven’s Gate, 9/11 hijackers, suicide bombers, martyrs from all faiths around the world throughout history were willing do die for their beliefs. Does that make them true? They can’t all be true.
3rd: What we have knowledge of is the stories that were written by people who are unknown to history, who wrote between 30-100 years after the events, and the stories grew as time progressed, as evidenced by the differences between Gospel according to Mark (65CE) and Gospel According to John (90-120CE), and everything in between.
Whether the Apostles were willing to die, doesn’t prove their beliefs were true, any more than the beliefs that The Heaven’s Gate Away Team met up with Do trailing behind the comet.

@@Travis_Rosenthal Except we don't... other than James, who was killed in what is likely a politically motivated way (not necessarily for his religion), Peter, Paul, John, and all the rest disappear from history.
There's Church Traditions that place them in Rome, possibly under the impact of Nero and his blaming of Christians, but they're not recorded by anyone outside of the church...
The story of John is from Tertulian, 100 years later, but no one of the newly converted christians within the coliseum thought to write down their new found faith...
Or Domitian writing about it, cause you'd think that someone not dying and then converting hundreds or thousands of people immediately would be cause for a letter or a monument to the miracle.
Instead we have nothing for a century.

@@Travis_Rosenthal Your right, but as with any case study, it's about an accumulation of surrounding evidence to add to an over all credibility. And when you consider that they died for what they claimed to have SEEN not just believed, forsaking an abundance of wealth and riches(thus indicating a desire not to be wealthy from thier claims), persecuted, tortured and finally matryed it does give it quite some credibility. Add this to the manuscript evidence that surpasses any writings of the Roman Emperor of that time even along with disgraceful inclusions like Peter being rebuked by Jesus and Paul, Paul Paul admitting to struggling with his flesh and not posing to be some perfectly innocent moral standard...it seems more likely that these first century believers were really struggling with what they witnessed but they couldn't deny it and had to speak about it.

It is very odd for me to watch people "deconstruct" since I was not raised in a Christian home. Jesus kicked in my door many times but I was 31 years old when the gospel (which I heard many times before) clicked for me. When I was confronted with just some level of the glory of God I found myself worried because the only Christians I encountered were hypocrites or couldn't defend their faith. Through the reading scripture and listening to teachings from Tim Keller, CS Lewis, Dr. John Lennox, R.C. Sproul, etc. I was left with the reality of how blind I truly was to the truth that was always there. Some would say that Rhett is apostate or was never a believer and I prefer not to assume I can read man's heart, but anyone who walks away didn't encounter Jesus' goodness, mercy, or love the way I did. I spent years trying to understand the 'what' or 'why' behind life, pain, purpose, suffering, love, etc. and it was not until that question changed to a 'Who' that I got the answer. Rhett and Link are currently being used as a merchants of old lies that started at the garden from the serpent. I pray that God humbles and redeems them publicly to show how great He truly is. At the least, I pray they turn to the Lord before it is too late. Thanks for your dedication to the ministry, Nate. I would love chat with you sometime.

It's really hard moving on from content creators, as weird as it may seem to people who don't spend much time online. It's like moving on from a friend you loved deeply. From my experience, I can assure you that there's always another creator who you will enjoy spending time watching instead, if not more. If you still want that and haven't found one who is biblically sound or at least not outwardly anti-Christian, ask God for a better option. Some people might think that's a silly thing to ask God for, but realistically, do you think God would want you to keep engaging with something that takes glory away from him? God is more than capable of helping you find something that fills that void. Perhaps it's a new hobby irl you can do with your children, or perhaps it is another content creator. Thank God that was revealed to you and you had the strength to let it go, even in part. I used to watch Philip De Franco every day for years to get my news, but then he started chastising Christians needlessly every day so I stopped watching. I didn't even realize what a negative impact it was having on me until I stopped watching it. It was all very small things, but it made a huge positive impact leaving it in the past. I mean, when I was a young adult, like 18-20 I began to have doubts and start to deconstruct, but from there I decided to dig deeper and deeper into the Bible and find more and more. I have barely scratched the surface now and it’s been about 10 years. But the more I get into it the more I understand and the stronger er my faith becomes. My advice for anyone doubting is to keep reading, don’t just abandon it because you never know what you’re misunderstanding. RUclips videos like this are helpful as well.

Im 70 Nate. I so much appreciate the perspective you add, both in debates and pastoral critique. This 'faith deconstruction' movement is deeply troubling. It used to be that when those who had major flaws in their conversion to Christianity from the beginning fell away, they typically surfaced as atheist-former Christians if they surfaced at all.
Now, with this deconstruction trend, they seem more bent on bringing their new enlightenment to others, ostensibly to free them from the deceiving burdens of Christianity.
First, i deeply question those who claim to have been Christian by then openly reject Jesus Christ. I backslid for several years as a new, young Christian 50 years ago, but i never, ever once doubted Christ. I could be wrong, but it seems to me that anyone who has experienced that love in your heart can ever overtly reject it.
Using doubt and faith as a tool to develop unbelief strikes me as incredibly deceptive. Except the things in life that can be proven beyond any reasonable doubt, all of history and past events' integrity hinges upon a level of faith.
A comparison to Joseph Smith and his revelation is ludicrous. His witnesses cannot hold a candle to not just the Apostles, but also dozens, if not hundreds who saw Jesus first hand after his resurrection.

    In regards to Thomas,
Last year, during a homily, a Catholic priest said that he doesn't see Thomas as a doubter, but as a heart broken man that could not bear to hear the news that a man he loved so much could have returned just to be heart broken, again, if it werent true. The priest took an interestingly charitable view of Thomas.

Hey Nate. Love your videos and how they’ve helped me grow spiritually. My apologies if I missed this but can you expound upon what the Biblical definition of faith is if Hebrews 11:1 is NOT the definition. Follow up question, if the verse literally says “faith IS…” can you explain how that isn’t the definition because it seems to be a definition even when reading it carefully. One thing that I see implied is that the conviction and hope are in fact based on evidence and NOT blind (as most secular definitions would assume that faith is blind). Any clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for your ministry and everything you’re doing.

I like the way the NIV words Hebrews 11:1:
“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
Simply put, faith is trust, confidence, or belief in a person, idea, or concept.
If I ask my wife to pick up my dry cleaning on her way home from work and she agrees to do so, I have faith that she will pick it up. After the conversation, I don’t feel the need to call and text her repeatedly to make sure she is still going to do it. Not only do I hope she’ll remember, I’m incredibly confident in that hope enough that I don’t make back up plans to pick it up. I also don’t ask her to prove to me that she’s going to pick it up. Why? Because she has a track record of always being reliable in the past which is one of the many reasons I married her.
If you go on to read the other 39 verses of Hebrews 11, it all commends believers who put their trust in God after He made them promises. They didn’t ask for proof that He would do what He had promised. They didn’t ask for a down payment or spend a ton of time questioning his faithfulness.
    Just look at verse 3:
“By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.”
This was written at a time when all of the great thinkers believed the universe had always existed (the Steady State theory.). Turns out, the Bible had it right. None of us were there to actually see it happen, yet even atheists have faith that the universe had a beginning (The Big Bang.)
My hope is in Jesus Christ and the eternal life He has promised me. I have great confidence in that hope even though I can’t place my hands on it or see into the future. I have faith based on all of the evidence I’ve seen and on Jesus’ track record of being faithful.

2 Peter tells us to add knowledge (and other characteristics) to our Faith. Paul makes it painfully clear that if we believe a lie we are a fool. The fact Rhett mentioned this verse points to a flaw in the argument. The apostles and the early church worked diligently to give accurate accounts and fight those that would corrupt the teachings of Christ. These debates have been on going since the formation of the early church. Rhett makes the error of assuming just because of our technological advancement as a whole that knowledge and a desire for truth and evidence was absent in history. The writings of the church fathers alone prove this idea that no one cared or asked false. His did not argue his point in good faith wether it be intentional or unintentional.

I don't expect Rhett and Link to be the ones to establish consistent and a logical flow of thought towards their skepticism and journey of deconstruction. For all Rhett is trying to make it seem that his decision came out from a well thought out, intellectual process, a lot of the things he brings up are misconceptions, inconsistent, or just downright wrong. It's no wonder that they left the faith, when their own faith relied basically upon a false god. Seems more or less that they were cultural Christians more than believers who surrendered legitimately because they were confronted with their brokenness and in need of Jesus. And when it came to them actually exploring the faith instead of just leaning on their cultural religiosity, they relied upon a very relative measuring stick on a misled understanding of what faith is. At the core, this is more probably an issue of personal things they have going on internally than a real scientific/intellectual thing that they make it seem out to be, else they'd understand the inconsistencies of their own arguments that are pointed out.

I’ve gotta say, you handled that very well, and I fully agree! Truthfully, we need to first distinguish what the meaning of faith is. It’s not just a process of thought, it’s an action. “Faith without works is dead”, “Faith is the SUBSTANCE of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”. When we have an encounter with God, and he reveals himself to us through the gospel, it causes us to change in our life where we live what we believe. God actually motivates us to search for knowledge and to be able to show why we believe. 2 Timothy 2:15
Rhett is right, influence has a lot to do with why humans believe the things that we do, but if he thinks he’s not under the influence of the world with the pull of RUclips Hollywood, he’s sadly mistaken.

The reason Jesus reprimands the Pharisees in the bible for asking for a sign is because He has been producing the signs throughout His ministry-so not because it’s bad but because the Pharisees were being stubborn. They refused to believe in Him out of spite. Nicodemus even admits in John 3 using the word “we” (perhaps hinting his group-the pharisees) know Jesus came from God but chose to antagonize Him because of their jealousy. It doesn't sound like the end outcome is based on your choice, right? It also sounds like you would agree with the omniscient part but it seems not on the omnipotent part. Am I interpreting that correctly? It seems like it is you, me, and society's responsibility to fulfill God's desires, not him intervening, did I understand you correctly?

The deal with Rhett, having seen several of his podcasts about this: all he does is say he speaks on behalf of "Southern White Evangelical Christianity," because that is what he knows and/or identified with.
Being a Catholic, I see his rants as a criticism of Southern Evangelical Protestantism.
He's knowledgeable of many Biblical teachings, but he's been jaded by the Liberal/Secular left and frames the arguments from that lens.
I have watched his content for 7+ years now. Any social commentaries he's given are extremely progressive.
I'll still watch his content for entertainment, but the subtle wokeness is becoming more apparent.

Yeah. It isn’t so much “subtle” anymore. It’s also coming out in a more “sexual” way, more than usual, which is common for the degenerate left. They idolize depravity.
Basically Rhett and Link are a great example of becoming who you surround yourself with. That accompanied with always wanting to appease the popular majority. They have decided it is more advantageous to their public image to go with the flow and just dump Christ. Which is extremely sad, of course.

I think of the parable of the seeds, specifically Matt 13:20-22 They have not had good & sound teaching, and did not have a solid root in the word and the thorns of this world has choked out their faith. I feel sorry for them as it will be worse when they stand before Jesus in all his glory and the sudden horror permeates their very being as he tells them to depart from me you worker of inequity. As a life long member of The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints (nicknamed Mormon, because of The Book of Mormon) I want to ask: What does it mean to be “Christian” if a belief in and reliance upon Jesus Christ as my Savior and Redeemer does not qualify? What constitutes a “Christian” if faith in Jesus Christ, His life, death, resurrection, miracles, teachings doesn’t count? I believe the Bible is the word of God, as does the entirety of my church. So please, explain to me how you, or any “Christian” religion can conclude that “Mormons are not Christian” if the fundamentals of Christianity apply. Thank you. 😁

I'm a member of the church of Jesus Christ of latter Day saints as well. Any other Christians may jump in if they think I'm wrong with what I'm about to explain here. The definition of God for the majority of Christianity comes from creeds. Particularly the Nicene creed which was written by a bunch of Christians getting together to define God in around 400 AD. This is where the Trinity idea comes from, that The Father, The Son, and the Holy Ghost are all of one substance without physical form.
The LDS church teaches that the three beings are distinct beings and that God the Father does indeed have a body, as well as Christ. The holy Spirit does not have a body.
But it is because of these differences that all the rest of Christianity claims us to be "polytheists" or to believe in "a different Jesus."
I personally would say that it's interesting that of all the possible titles that God could have, he chose The Father. Jesus prays to the father, asks blessings of the father, and returns to the father. I don't know how the rest of Christianity explains this.
But in the end, it is okay to disagree. I know that I'm a Christian because I believe in Christ. Christ is the Savior. And no one else is going to tell me who I am.
I hope that I have explained it well enough. Take care brother!

“They have an incorrect understanding of what the bible is talking about?” He clearly said that he’s been reading and watching debates. He’s not going to take these anonymous gospels, that contradict each other, face value. Look at the time when Jesus lived. You had people making up crazy stories, why can’t this be made up? Because it’s your Lord Jesus who create this universe and all other universe, so he can give himself up to his daddy for 3 days,.

If it were made up it's the first historical narrative fiction ever made in history, and the people that made it up went through a lot of trouble to get the fine details accurate way more often than not.
I deny that there are any meaningful contradictions in the Gospels that can't easily be accounted for by saying different people remembered things slightly differently from their own perspective.

He didn't phrase it well. I think his point is why does there have to be so much search for evidence in order to believe something that God should have made perfectly evident for everyone, in light of the fact that He wants all to be saved. And no, God's existence is not evident to everyone, even if Paul states that. Some people truly want to believe, are desperate because they cannot believe, and beg God to make them believe... but they still end up not being able to believe.

    • @Gannecus86
      @Gannecus86 7 месяцев назад +3

@@lucianseekinglove I just don't buy that. I think it comes down to hubris. The atheistic position is so much more ridiculous than the GOD explanation, which is usually the hang up. Rhett and Link's "deconversion" is even less impressive or persuasive. They went to Hollywood and, since most people there are LGTV adjacent, they gave up their beliefs to satisfy their need to be liked: it's as simple as that. Their "arguments" are all emotion because, since the Bible is very clear on the subject, they would rather be seen as "compassionate" than stand on truth.
There is too much corroboration in the gospel accounts, too many eye witnesses that could have easily said "Yeah that isn't how this happened", not to mention the disciples themselves going from out and out cowards who fled to so fervent in their belief and that they saw what they saw that, save John, they all died horrible deaths. They didn't do it for money, they all died destitute, so why the change of heart?
If you want to believe that everything came from nothing, that life can somehow come from un-life, then you have an even larger burden of proof than the Christian ever does: All that science has now is theoretical science and nothing that we can use induction to come to a conclusion because it isn't able to be replicated. Not my opinion on this either, I've interacted with a few honest atheists who will admit this. It's just an excuse, as Dawkins put it, to keep the divine foot out of the door.

@@Gannecus86There is no corroboration whatsoever, look up the synoptic problem, they all copied each other. The alleged eyewitnesse were illiterate fishermen who did not know of Gospels written on the other side of the Empire. The evidence for most of these deaths is incredibly poor because they happened 30 years later because thay had nothing to do with the resurrection. That's just the God of the gaps and it's not even evidence for Christianity at any rate.

@@Gannecus86 , I don't know about Rhett and Link (although Rhett said that he deconverted several years ago, long before they became famous), and I don't see why one would have to deconvert at Hollywood, as there are numerous actors and actresses who openly speak about their Christian faith and thank God even at the Oscars.
What I do know is my personal experience. I sought God for years, read the Bible, prayed almost daily, but when I applied the promises of Jesus to my life, they failed time and time again. My health and life got worse, almost no answered prayers, only misery, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, disabilities, singleness, poverty, and the list goes on...
A God Who has the power to help me, but chooses to watch me beg Him for years without helping me, is not a God I want to serve. It's not hubris. It's reason. He Himself said in the Bible that He wants a relationship based on mutual service. We do our part and He does His. He did not do His part in my life.

And Rhett.. someone who admittedly has all the time in the world for podcasts hasn't watched a Dr Frank Turek Q and A?
No Dr David Wood debates with Muslims?
He never listened to some good Ole Cliffe Knechtle?
He never heard a Mike Winger zinger?
He never looked into the evidence and that's his ego.
The evidence is more than enough nowadays and arguably was enough 1,000 years ago.... 500 years ago and 20 years ago. But it's who ate we getting our information from is the deciding factor. Lazy pastors would be a root cause.
The problem is.. Are people looking for it practically or with their feelings?
Older folks like Rhett I can understand being disappointed in their church leaders for not giving good enough answers...
I can understand being upset bc certain nagging questions still never got answered by pastors.... IN THE PAST.
But today?? You can fall down a rabbit hole for 3 days and find christ without a shadow of a doubt.. hence my conversion. (Took more than 3 days but you get it)
I tested the Bible against LDS teachings, Jehovahs Witnesses, Hinduism, Buddhism and Catholicism and what it boiled down to was me who and intentions. I didn't want it to be right or wrong.
1.) Did I drop my ego first before my search and was i open to the idea I could be wrong?
2.) Am I seeing the bigger picture? (Know them by their fruits)
3.) Do I have the legitimate facts address upon by even the atheists of the field of research so that there is no conflict of interest?
I don't like the kids question bc it very much IS a logical and reasonable thing to believe in and it was NEVER supposed to be based on how you felt. That's all

This is what happens when people choose apostasy. Whatever they had, whatever they KNEW about spiritual things gets taken away from them. I see this too often for words.
Someone rejects Christ after having been a part of a church, and then a short time later, they know almost nothing about what they claimed to believe.
    And the words of Christ are proven true;
"flesh and blood did not reveal these things to you, but the Spirit of God. "
    And also
" To him who has much, more will be given to him, and to him who has little, even what he has will be taken away from him."
I've got multiple friends who have walked away, and whenever I've asked them specific questions about their former faith, and about revelations they proclaimed TO ME about Christ's amazing love and grace, their answers now invariably follow the pattern of " I don't know, man. "

I will write this in the most unbiased way I can, Rhett didn't say that no one asked specifically, he was using the majority ideals (what most people believed then). It is a fact that in the 19th century most people believed because they were told, in fact if you questioned the things you were being told you would most likely be punished for it. Of course people did because skepticism has always been around, but not always has it been ok to be skeptical. The uploader then says that he will let him finish his thought, and then proceeds to not let him. Rhett's point after this was that we are in a time where we can look at everything we have gathered from the people who have written the books of the bible, scrolls, books removed from the Bible ect. The uploader fails to understand this point while seeming condescending toward Rhett. Rhett also does not say that because of this information there is no reason to believe, it just gives more resources to form an opinion. Not unlike any other issue. Saying that Mormonism isn't a religion to evangelicals and other denominations and branches is not always correct so I'll say that both parties are a little incorrect because I've met and talked to Christians that believe Mormons believe the same way they do and sometimes are correct in that belief. And evangelicals aren't being singled out. If you did research into Rhett and Link's deconstructions further you would have found that they were evangelicals and that's why they are talking about them. Also I could be wrong, but the uploader seems to have either skipped or deleted the first sections of the Ear Biscuits video from his video. (I could be incorrect). I also have an issue with the uploader insinuating that the eye witness claims are first hand witnesses, those books were written YEARS after the events were said to take place. The argument in which the uploader's friend is a homicide detective while being a sort of gold argument, the difference with the cases now and whether the bible and Christianity is true is homicide cases aren't cold for 2,000 years. Thinking that those time frames are anywhere close for cases such as these is ludicrous. Also saying that this video by Rhett and Link is meant to deter someone from believing or not believing is again, ludicrous. In the very video the uploader is watching they say they are not trying to do so. Which makes me believe that the uploader just looked at the chapters of the video and just skipped the first bit. THIS IS NOT A DEBATE VIDEO, IT IS A STORY ABOUT RHETT'S DECONSTRUCTION. I also could be wrong about this but he seems to be watching the video on a faster speed hitting the points he actually pays attention to. I personally believe in the excerpt the uploader reads about Thomas around the second time he reads it (time stamp 17:47), Jesus is a loving being and maybe, possibly just wants to see one of his disciples and friends? Jesus wouldn't show up just to prove a point, that's not how he is. And I'm sure I'm not the first to say this. You cannot use the bible to defend the bible, same as you can't use a science book to defend that same science book. Uploader also strays from the video, making this a debate WHICH IT IS NOT.
