I had the pleasure of seeing Larry Bird play from the time he was a senior at Indiana St to his time on the Dream Team. Bird is the greatest all-around player I ever saw because he could score, pass, and rebound at a high level. Bird was also a damn good defender who was all-NBA defense three times. Larry is also one of the greatest shooters of all-time, he was extremely clutch, he had an extremely high basketball IQ, and he hustled his butt off. Larry Bird was an amazing player.
I like how this video breaks it down into categories. Gunna add it to my Larry Bird recommend list: Ultimate Mixtape, greatest Passer re-edit, and ultimate tribute.
Another great video and reaction 🤙! I appreciate you knowing about the greats of the past and the history of basketball!! Thanks for always giving Bird the accolades and respect that he deserves!! Much love and respect 🤙
Fun fact, Kevin McHale has an 8ft wingspan and that is how he caught some of Larry's crazy passes. Bill Walton used to joke that Kevin could scratch is ankles without bending or sitting down.
I love this compilation! Bird always seemed to know where to be & when. One of my favs is Bird snatching the ball & giving Chuck Person that look! 😂😂😂. He was the Best shooter in the league....without a doubt. I'm hoping at least some of the younger generations will see the vids & give the saviors of BB the respect they deserve!!! Not to mention the ones that paved the way before them!
Basketball evolves as do the players. For that era he was without a doubt the best all-around player and I was a Lakers fan. He wasn't a jumper but he was 6'9" and could shoot and pass like no other - just an amazing basketball mind and as tough as they come. He didn't take sh** from anyone and was the biggest trash talker of all time and backed it up. So glad I experienced those years.
People will say that Bird wasn’t athletic, but what they really mean is that he wasn’t graceful. Bird was a phenomenal athlete as these highlights demonstrate over and over again.
Bird was very unassuming to look at before the game started. So even before the game started he had the advantage. He would out hustle anyone. He always knew where the ball was going to be. He was highly skilled in every aspect of the game. He always delivered especially in the clutch. He was virtually unguardable with his step back shot with the high arc to the basket. His passing was "Globetrotter-like". He consistently rebounded and stole the ball. He played in a very tough league with many of the NBA's greatest stars and he played with physicality and while injured with serious injuries that shortened his career. No other NBA player can lay claim to all these attributes and his stats. That makes Larry Bird the GOAT !!!
I hadn't seen some of these as well. Bird was a great passer, but he had a really great team of receivers, too. They had to be ready at all times. He was scrappy, motivated, determined, never quit trying and greatly talented. Thanks for this video. I have been off the internet for a while because my computer had broken screen covers (possibly my fault). I sent it out on the 16th (to Texas from Michigan) in the box they gave me and got it back on the 20th, so I have a ton of things to catch up on. Had to give them a shout out because it made me so happy. Also had my first cataract surgery a little over a week ago. Things always come in bunches.
Hey BU, this is one of my favorites.. watched it several times now. So glad you got to do this one! Really liked that Foreverunited19 had found different views of some of Larry’s more famous plays, and stuff I hadn’t seen before. So much fun… the passing is infectious! Love the give-and-go! The clutch plays are fantastic! Music choice is pretty nice too Love your favorites and adding few more of my favorites 2:58 - in the 1987 playoffs with the Milwaukee Bucks, Love the Parrish absolute enthusiasm when he knows Bird is going to pass that ball “through the legs of Sikma” (poor Jack 😉, Jersey #43, a 7 foot HoF “Big Man” org for the Supersonics and got that ring in 1979 with none other than Dennis Johnson as his teammate. Then Jack finished out with Milwaukee Bucks from ‘86-‘91 Jack has some good solid stats, regarded as great player and good shooter and was drafted two years before Larry. If you watch quite a few highlights, have Jack being a victim of Larry’s passing, But I’m glad Jack wasn’t too traumatized by the nutmeg and went on to play several more years and became a good coach according to reports) 8:55-9:18 The one after the other steal on the Bullets, Jeff Malone, and Terry Catledge 😂 If you do a slow Mo, when bird is preparing to steal the 2nd time, you can see 2 of Larry’s teammates have already turned and are running back down the court because they know Bird is gonna steal it again! 😁) 9:44-9:47 The overlob over Kareem… “How do overlob Kareem?!?!” It is a nice little jump by Bird too) The Steals and block on Jordan! Oh yeah Literally My only dis on this vid, is they left out the DJ and Bird hug after the infamous 1987 steal and layup against the Bad Boy Piston…. The oldheads who know say Larry did this stuff in every game … every game, every single game he played! Reason we have so many of the same highlights over and over is because most regular games were not full coverage, Or not recorded at all.. especially in his early years …think about how many more highlights we haven’t seen and probably never will and are fondly remembered by the oldheads.
5:52 The fight you weren’t sure about doesn’t seem to have much information on it, but it’s in 1981 with Allan Bristow #44 (utah Jazz, Celtics lost, and Bird was ejected) I would be willing to bet there was definitely more to that story!
This is a highlight reel, but what the young bloods today don't understand is that is what you got from Larry every effing time he stepped on the court. Dude was a bball savant. His rookie year the Celtics, who had been languishing in the basement, improved by 32 games. Only other player I know that had that kind of impact was Jordan. @BU TV, thanks for giving Bird his well deserved flowers.
The guy who he had the fight with where Bird pushes his head into the floor was Alan Bristow, who would later become head coach for the Utah Jazz. Bird didn't discriminate who he picked to fight with. LOL.
It’s been so long, I forgot I sent it. LOL! It is a great video and I am glad you enjoyed it. (Btw, JJ Redick is now coaching the Lakers!! When you mentioned plumbers and fireman, Redick is the one who said it. I can’t stand him!😅)
@5:30, the play where Bird slides out of bounds trying to save the loose ball is a view from the opposite side of the court as the clip I've seen a lot.
Bird ( and Magic) brought phenominal passing into the game, but Larry would do passes that made your head spin! Somehow, he always knew where a guy was- even if that guy was directly behind him few paces with 2 guys on him - and somehow get a perfect blind pass to him for an easy bucket. His court vision was absolutely unmatched by ANYONE. And that steal against Detroit proved just how far ahead of everyone else he was. As Worthy said once -"Jordan made you look slow, Larry made you look stupid".
I have noticed...as I'm sure others have...that the younger generations have a complete lack of respect in general! That's ok....one day it will be aimed at them too!
Newer players are better trained physically and mentally for the game but they are mostly robotic now and cant be expected to b good outside of their set of skills. Most of them have to get to their spot to hit a shot and the old players made shit work no mater where they were on the court and made shit up as it was needed and Most new players are just repeating learned skills that have been practiced to be automatic but cant complete anything outside of that training. Not everyone but most of them
Sadly Bird's father took his own life when Larry was 19 because he was distraught about not providing for the family. If he could only experience what Larry made of himself.
Willful ignorance - those are the two words. In other news, please watch the short of Luka trashing JJ with one or two words - on Redick's own podcast. It's brilliant.

People think athleticisim is jumping really high and dashing really fast.
Larry pre 1985 was more athletic than he got credit for. He could run, finish breaks, quick leaps for rebounds.

Prime Larry would torch the league. Boston with him now would be a juggernaut, on the way to several more titles.
Bird ( and Magic) brought phenominal passing into the game, but Larry would do passes that made your head spin! Yes!
Larry Legend is the greatest of all time. Yes, ahead of Jordan. Larry Bird is the best all-around player to ever play the game. Period.
The only player IN THE HISTORY OF THE NBA to average 24/10/6 for his career.
I am 65 I knew nothing of sports of any kind until I moved to KY. In 1966.so b-ball rules here rules
Did I see Bird D up Jordan twice in this video?
People who think Lebron could even finish a game against Larry are delusional.
Yes sir 🤙!!
uhh what?
@@samantharay6098 that means between Larry’s trash talk and toughness Lebron would quit. Kinda like he’s done multiple times in the playoffs
