- Soilent Green returns to CBGB's in New York, NY on 6/3/01 to pummel it once again.
Ben Falgoust - Vocals
Brian Patton - Guitar
Ben Stout - Guitar
Scott Williams - Bass
Tommy Buckley - Drums
My old band Apostasy played some great shows with Soilent Green in the early '90s. My brother Tracy (R.I.P.) & I used to go to their practices sometimes around '88-89, shortly after they formed. In the early '00s, I started going to nearly all of their band practices for a few years with my friend Tommy, who is Soilent's drummer, & I did some travelling with them, too. It was always a total blast. Enjoy the show...

There are riffs they used for 20 seconds that make hit songs. A strange approach but very deliberate.
Damn right!
Now we are fucking talking
@Jimbo Morrison He used to tell me about being in honor band in school! That was just a couple years before I met Tommy. He had that band Divine Right, too, w/ my friend Gary, shortly before he teamed up w/ Glenn, Marcel, Brian, & Donovan in Soilent Green.
Oh, & Holy Terror was before Divine Right. He might've had that going when you were in school together, or right after that. His first band. :)
My favorite NOLA band ever
This is fucken awesome. Thanks!!!
Hi Steve, fancy seeing you here, love your videos!
oh shit it's the doom messiah
I talked to Brian after seeing Eye Hate God show a year ago and told him Soilent Green needs to get back together and make a new album! I’ve seen them twice in Sacto CA in the mid 2000’s. Fantastic live. Thanks for posting this show!!
I miss Soilent Green so bad. A Deleted Symphony was a fucking masterpiece.
Yes it was
Dude.. that album is 100% incredible and my favorite of theirs. Confrontation was also top notch, along with Inevitable Collapse
In my opinion the first 3 albums they make were intense, after that they got boring and Ben just stuck with the growling voice. I liked his high shrieks but it went away
This was such a huge album for me when it came out. Wore the fucking cd out.
Soilent is back, y'all. Playing New Orleans (Jefferson) on July 12th.
I just watched live footage Bower has up on Facebook maybe an hour ago
Saw these guys tear apart a pool hall back in 2005. One of the best sets I've seen. Katrina was about to hit and the guys were all worried about what was going on back home while they were out on tour.
Thanx, Jason. I still listen to "String Of...". A friend from Norway. PS! Any connection to Ghoat Whore?
One of the guitarists, Brian I think his name was, worked at my flower shop for a bit. He is a great guy and I loved hearing stories about shooting the music videos and how the bass player would want to be exacting with his fingers and Brian would say "dude it's just a video, Have fun with it"
Brian is an excellent cat. Your story reminds me of the first gig I ever played, when I was in Apostasy. We were playing w/ this band called No Traces, who had my boy Tommy Buckley (Soilent Green) on drums, & so Brian was there to scope it out. I was nervous! Brian & I were watching No Traces' set & I asked him for advice. He was like, "Just pretend like you're at practice. It's mostly just our friends here anyway." Ha! I was still kinda nervous (normal, really), but it immediately got easier w/ the rest of the gigs, while keeping his advice in mind. We did some killer shows w/ the Green...carefree times!
I'd be happy if they just wrote and recorded a new one, maybe do some limited vinyl/cd stuff, and stream it. They wouldnt have to tour so patton can stay home. It could work.
Soylent Green, Today is the Day. Exumed, Morgion. Albuquerque NM .Launch Pad. Late 90s one of the best shows.🤘🥃🤘
Thanks for the upload!! These guys were a awesome band. I had all their albums on CD back in the day. Got to see them once in Seattle in 02, or 03, can't remember. Ben signed my string of lies cd, and Brian signed my ehg t shirt!!
Where are the CDs!!
such a chaotic band but plays so tight it is eerie- this sounds just like the album. Goddamn I miss SG
Live shows had such better mixes in the 90s. You can actually hear the guitar
Anyone got a setlist? I’m lazy
RIP Scott Williams
Cliff would be Proud.. On that level.
Damn right. Such a good dude
Thank you for the upload and sharing this!
Setlist?
Soilent Green Multifacetic Band!. Sludge, Grindcore,Stoner,Hardcore And Southern Music. Death Metal In Its Early Years
I know this is an old video, but it would make a great PSA. "Guitarists, please be sure to have a good quality tuner with you at all times." 😂 I just discovered this band. They are tight with a massive sound. I'm an instant fan! 💚🎸
FUCK YES
Nola sound personified
Thats some serious stuff. Just lol at all the tough guy slam bands.....meet your maker, folks!
Well-said! For more Green rarities, you can use this:

what has always bothered me is bands like this are so tight on stage playing some complicated shit....
and in the 70's, zeppelin couldn't bother to even practice for their gigs and it makes a lot of live gigs unwatchable...
Classic 🐐🐐🐐👹👹👹
Will there ever be a new Soilent album?
I wouldn't hold my breath, but it isn't totally out of the question. Keep your fingers crossed...
@@MaxWhiteArabiLouisiana we can only hope for a new album, but there will most likely be a new guitarist since Patton left his bands to focus more on his kid.
If Brian doesn't come back, it's a done deal, as far as what Tommy told me. Makes sense, as Brian was writing pretty much everything for the last couple records. Donovan ain't comin' back. Scott W. is RIP, etc. Tommy would be the only original member.
@@JasonPizzolato these guys were ahead of their time. Brian is a genius.
@@pbdjr46 if there’s no Donovan Punch there at least needs to be Brian Patton. Maybe when he’s children are old enough we can get Punch and Patton back for a reunion. It’s a damn shame that Scott had to be killed. RIP I’ve filmed them plenty of times in Houston. I’ve also seen them back long enough with Glen singing.
When you're fingers are as long as you're screams
I've seen SG live more times than I can count and me and my friends used to always joke about that
a gem in the sludge of utube
Thanx🤘
This fucking RULES!!!!!!
Goddamn they sure lay riffs like no other..
Give this one a spin if you haven't yet. More killer riffage (or "riffliage", as Brian & Tommy used to call it) packed into one song than you can shake a stick at:

Was this the Relapse CMJ showcase?
7:26... probably
Nope. It was their tour with Napalm Death, Isis and Diecast. Great show.
