  • Sweden is an expensive country to visit, but it doesn't have to be. This is a list of the top 10 completely free things you can do in Sweden!
For more videos every week, subscribe to the channel: ruclips.net/user/threestarvaga...
Also, join the Three Star Vagabond Facebook group to discuss upcoming videos: / threestarvagabond
The things listed in this video are:
    - Free museums in Sweden. There used to be a lot more free museums before 2023, but the state owned museums have unfortunately introduced an entry fee since then. But you can still find a few ones that are completely free
    - Visiting the Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi is completely free...even if staying at the hotel is extremely expensive
    - Looking at runestones is a perfect excuse for a road trip in Sweden. And it's also free to look at them. Good places for runestones include Vallentuna and Sigtuna, but also the island of Gotland, outside of Eskilstuna and in Östergötland
    - Entering the royal castles of Sweden costs money, but you can visit the castle grounds and the castle gardens for free. And of course look at the magnificent castles themselves. Castles mentioned include Drottningholm Castle, Örebro Castle, Kalmar Castle, Malmö Castle and the Royal Palace in Stockholm
    - Sweden Solar System is the world's largest scale model of the solar system, and it stretches 950 km across Sweden - so it's a perfect excuse for a road trip
    - If you want to visit farm animals and get a break from city life, you can visit one of the 30 4H farms that can be found across Sweden
    - Gothenburg has the lovely Slottsskogen and the Botanical Gardens that are both completely free to visit
    - Another good thing to do in Sweden is to look at the magnificent architecture
    - National parks in Sweden are all completely free to visit, so make sure you do so!
    - And finally, something you can do for free in Sweden is to go wild camping in nature because of Allemansrätten, the right to roam in nature
If you want to learn more about Allemansrätten, check out this video: • Sweden's Right to Roam...

I remember as i was kid in late 80s that in Stockholm you could buy tourist card and you could visit almost every museum with it. Yu could also travel with all SL transport in Stockholm area for that whole day.
Later at end of 90s as i were hiking around Stockholm i had SL card and it was so handy for going around the city. Good for me was that my mothers brother lived in Fisksätra at the time and my aunt lived in small village Riala near by Norrtälje. So i had roof over my head where to sleep at nights.
I wisited all the parts of the city where i could go with tunnelbana. Two things that i noticed was that in every single bar i heard people speaking finnish and also all the gypsys spoke finnish too.
I just love to buzz around Stockholm at the summer time. It is beautiful city.

    • @ThreeStarVagabond
      @ThreeStarVagabond  18 дней назад +2

Now that definitely brings back memories! I was a kid in Stockholm in the 80s as well (but then I moved around in Sweden before I came back in the 2010s). I didn't have an SL card back then, but I distinctly remember always using two coupon stamps regardless of how far I was going - so I could travel around a bit too ^_^
And that's true! There were tons of Finnish people and Finnish gypsies back then. Not as much these days - except when all the Finns come on vacation during summers.
Totally agree! Cheers and have a nice one

I love the idea behind 4H, something else to add to the to-do list! And I have to agree with you, the architecture in Sweden is spectacular and it really does have a distinct style/look to it that doesn't compare to any other Nordic country I've been to.

Hej! I will be in Sweden in late August, mainly in Stockholm. But I would also like to see more of two other areas in particular, Dalarna and Gotland. It looks like I would need a rental car to get out into the countryside, but I am a tad apprehensive about driving there, plus the cost. What do you think? For Visby, especially, would there still be a lot of tourists in late August, making a hotel room as hard to find as in high summer? I really enjoy your videos! Tack!

    • @ThreeStarVagabond

For Gotland I think that the tourist situation will be pretty okay at the end of August - it's worse in the beginning of August. And as for car... Well yeah, it is preferable to have a car to drive around both places. I'd see if I could find a rental at each place, but travel there by boat (to Gotland) and train (to Dalarna) respectively.
