How to make boot times faster on Ryzen 7000.

- In this video I go over bios settings that will improve your post speed on Ryzen 7000 compatible motherboards. My particular board is the TUF GAMING X670E-PLUS WIFI. By default the BIOS will have "Memory Context Restore" set to auto. What this means is that the memory will retrain every time you boot your PC. If you enable this setting your post times will go from 1 minutes down to around 15 seconds. Hope this helps!
Great vid and thanks for the help, reduced from 60 to 20 seconds. A little update to anybody using a Asus rog strix X670E-E; if you make the change that is demonstrated in this video and are then unable to post, this is very likely because the option 'power down enable' (just above memory context restore) is set to auto. So don't panic, your board is fine. But you will now have to use the CMOS button to reset your bios, then enable EXPO again. Let it boot once to make sure everything is okay (takes a good minute or so). Then follow the steps in this video and at the same time, make sure to set the 'power down enable' from auto to enabled and enjoy your new speeds :)

Does this only work with Expo timings?
It absolutely bricked when I tried it with a manual RAM overclock (6 hours anta extreme stable and 12000% Karhu coverage stable)
With some motherboards, Power Down is not automatically enabled when you enable Memory Context Restore. If you enable the latter, you should make sure you enable the former, especially if you encounter a bsod like I did. In my case, MSI B650 Carbon.

First time I tried this my PC was unable to boot, and I had to do a clear CMOS to resolve the issue. A few days later, I made the decision to replace my XMP Corsair Dominator RAM sticks to the EXPO version equivalent. This adjustment was successful, as my system finally booted with the memory context restore setting without any complications. Notably, this change resulted in a considerable improvement in boot time. Thanks for the video!

@@RainOnWarpaint You can definitely give it a shot and see if it works for you. Perhaps my XPM kit had a specific issue. If, for any reason, it doesn't work and your PC doesn't boot, you can easily resolve it by performing a clear CMOS to revert back to the factory configuration. Afterward, you still have the option to switch to the Expo kit, as in my case, it was a success and continues to run perfectly to this day.
Context restore is in two places in the bios...one is in DRAM Timing towards the bottom, & the other is under the advanced tab,,/amdcbs/umc options/ddr options/ddr memory features/context restore

Just be careful reguarding expo at this moment, alot of information about this at the moment and chips killing themselfs and taking the board with it. Asus want you to update to the latests bios which is 1409 for this board.

@@WolfpackDentist Np, another beta bios has dropped for this since yesterday. Which locks in the SOC voltage. At this stage i dont fully know what the issue is, as its reported a few times mainly on X3D chips but i have seen non X3D chips also develop the fault.

DDR5-6000 set on 5800 for stability.
So I believe this has to do with memory training for AMD systems. AMD motherboards have this enabled by default(usually)to ensure that the the CPU can use the best timing/speeds of the RAM every time the computer has a new boot cycle. Disabling this also disables memory training. While this will speed up the boot time, your system will not be optimized or memory trained on following sequential boots.
Personally I like to leave it enabled to ensure the communication between my CPU and RAM is always optimized. I hit the power button, go grab a cup of water or a snack, and let the memory training do it's thing. I usually only do one or two boots on a given day anyways.

Its a shame that my R9 7900x System is slower to boot from power on to desktop than my i7 6700k System but at the end of the day. Its the performance while we're up and running that we really care about

Hellz yeah! This worked on my MSI B650m. It used to take me about 90 seconds to hit the desktop and now down to 35 seconds

my boot time went from 65-75 seconds to 13-15 seconds! absolutely amazing, it would only boot this fast WITHOUT the AMD expo profile disabled, thank you very much. :) love the simple explanation of it all aswell and visual guidance!

I have exact same Pc (R5 7600x + ROG B650E-E + 32GB DDR5 6400M/T CL32)
But when I shotdown my pc, the LED on the motherboard (ROG Logo) and case front panel LED (Razer Logo) does not turn off !
Did you faced this problem ?
@@YSFarshad yes the ROG logo stays lit after shutting down, but I always remove the power cable from the outlet whenever I am away or not using my PC so no worries for me.

guys keep in mind this could also cause issues. if you notice your PC crashes, revert these changes. this isnt a "fix all" for boot times. mobo manufacturers need to get their heads out of their asses. most have improved this issue, MSI budget boards still have this problem

Unfortunately this also makes you bsod all the time even before getting to windows.
That should only happen if you're running Ram that isnt on the QVL for the motherboard manufacturer. But I'm sure there are exceptions to the rule.
@@WolfpackDentist QVL only its based on what ram they've tested on their boards, has nothing to do with this, im using a "ryzen optimized" ddr4 3600mhz on a z170 pro gaming aura only supports 3400max kit according to qvl and bullshit.
Make sure to turn on Power Down on AI TWEAKER settings.

I purchased a remote pc starter, my life got more comfort now! And also I can then startup it outside the house and bring my vr headsett to friends and play. About 20ms network delay it seems. Weird since we got same internet and are close. Guess routing is far south or something.
Honestly I'd rather not mess with this. My current PC takes like 5 minutes to boot so booting in 1 minute is absolutely fine.

Mine wasn’t booting after I turn on expo. But I updated the bios and now I get to use the full 6000mhz I purchased haha yay thanks! And it also boot faster now instead of me watching the motherboard light stays on DRAM for like 40secs haha

Based on the information I could find this setting allows the system to store DDR5 timings, preventing it from retraining every boot.

Turning it off completely boots in 12-13 seconds.
They’ll fix expo and OC’ing with future updates. The fact that expo causes 40-50second boot times is sketchy enough so I’ll just wait till they fix it

So old DDR4 systems were far better in this aspect, my pc boots with ddr4 3200, 11400f within 10-15 seconds
What about the other memory context restore in advanced settings, if you are going to post a video at least do it right. OK people, there are "2" memory context restore settings. If you set both to enabled, your post and boot times will be the same as an older AM4 system.

MSI X670E Tomohawk. Power Down must be enabled if MCR is enabled, if you dont enable Power down you'll get a BSOD during or after windows boot. @ MSI, why is it that the VGA POST light illuminates for RAM post issues, I spent hours truble shooting my VGA/GPU setup when it dawned on me that it was the RAM which was slowing BOOT up. I think that RAM and VGA POST lights are mislabeled on this board.

My problem is the time it takes to load my GPU, i now some commands in Linux to make PCIe "at time" so every time it needs its ready for game, not anything equal at Windows BUT, i found something very interesting called Kithara RealTime Suite, very very interesting......
for w/e reason having that enabled makes me bsod so often its crazy.

I have the exact same board and same CPU and with my G.Skill Z5 Neo 6000 64 GB kit running EXPO and memory context restore not working for me. Windows 11 was bluescreening directly at startup with "Memory_Management" code, but with a much newer BIOS version 2214 (I tried 2412 and 2413 too, but those was extremely unstable - even in the BIOS itself).
But i i am not sure about the "Power Down" option...
I purchased a new pc and it boots in like 10 seconds without me tweaking anything, my rams are NEO Z5 RGB 6000mhz from G.Skill . The only thing i edited was the speed of the rams from 4500 to 6000hz, why is that?

i bought corsair dominator platinum ddr5 6200mhz for my am5 motherboard, has that got something to do with why mine takes so long to boot up? currently mine takes over a minute to boot up every time, and the ram i bought says intel xmp, does that matter? cause videos I've seen says it doesn't, that's its just a marketing thing so idk why mine is like this

Thanks for sharing! This is still super slow though.... my 8 year old PC starts within 17 seconds into the OS (Linux). BIOS/UEFI takes about 8-10 seconds.

X670e boards have different memory training and boot speeds. I use a Samsung 990 Pro NVME.
Is system stable with this trick? I have expo profile 1 and speed 5200mhz because 6000mhz is not stable for me but will try 5600mhz
What let me guess running, AMD still needs to reboot so often you had to make a video on booting the unstable platform faster.
Ive found that this comes from running anything over 6000MHz, OR if you try to run 4 DIMMS of DDR5.

My pc boots up around 20 seconds on the latest bios. I didnt need to do this. Should i still do it for even faster boot times?

Hi was searching for someone with my case just build new rig and i still have faith after several cold boots but this mobo can't seem to complete the first training, have to power down and it gets to the bios in 1 min in safe mode.

On gigabyte motherboards after training it works perfect, loading is about 10 sec. While on my asus tuf b650m-plus it always in bios stuck with mcr and 1 minute load without. 64Gb DDR5 X-Flare 6000.

Alright so after reboot fast boot off yellow dram light for 15-20 sec then off red cpu for 2-5 sec then off then white vga 1 sec then green light then boot so is it supposed to happen? I have exact the same problem. And after I enabled memory context restore my pc booted fast but had bluescreen while booting into windows ( maybe because I didn’t enabled power down enable). Then I wanted to disable it but my BIOS was freezing after 10 seconds I was in. So I reset my pc like 5 times till I could disable it.
@@rogonos3513 I think its because my ram isn't on my mb qvl so it's doing memory training Everytime or something. My mb enabled power down when I turned on mcr but I jus leave it off.

Did you find your answer? You need to make sure it is AMD Expo ram.... The ram this days can be Intel or for AMD

I had the same issue with my R9 7950x paired with asus x670-p, with Hyperx fury memory, ram wouldn't stay on 6k mhz, as soon as it started to load windows it would restart to bios, what I found on the internet was to disable fast boot from bios, and that fixed it for me.

The problem is with YOU, not AMD. I have a full AMD system that runs circles around almost any Intel machine. And I have ZERO problems. My system runs buttery smooth. So it's not AMD. It's you...

hey, ive seen that 7800x3d can have only ramaxhz at 5200mhz and i already have 6000mhz ram, and i just checked for 7900x its same, but i could see you have it running at 6000mhz,, so im a little confused , ohh the 5200 mhz is with 2 stick with x4 its 3600, but its strange so.etimes peoe can get their full ram speed sometimes not, maybe you know something about this?
My 7800x3d running 64gb of 6400mhz fine with default xmp3

@@inguspodnieks5040 true only prob I'm having is on restart or startup yellow dram light stays on for about 20 seconds turns off them red CPU light 5 sec white VGA 1 sec then green and boot. I've heard a lot of people say it's the CPU training the memory and they prob are right because I enabled that remember memory thing or whatever and instantly boots but I jus keep it off as some say brod pops but ima try reset cmos. I was so afraid one of my components was messed up and still kinda are but hell it works guess it is jus memory training every time

MY ram sticks are EXPO ready and I had no issue with them, but after making these changes in BIOS, did you encounter any problems while booting later on?
I haven't had any problems, but you need to make sure your Ram is compatible with your Motherboard. Even if it says EXPO, that doesn't means the products will pair together correctly.

@@najeebshah. Booting your machine once or twice a day thing for most of users. What else could you accomplish by saving 15 seconds? LOL. Most of the AM5 chips are still faster than Intel's latest 14th gen processors (can even outperform the 14900K). By enabling MCR, getting to the desktop in 15 seconds is still not a big deal.
