what gets me the most is Neuvillette's description of how she acted after he told her the full truth; approximately "she was neither sad nor happy, she simply said 'I'm tired. I need a rest'." She was so thoroughly exhausted that she couldn't even feel a thing. She was numb from head to toe. The only feeling left was the cold longing of a long, restful slumber. Stellar writing.
