  • A review that's been a long time coming.
The Panasonic LX5 is such an amazing little compact camera, It really deserves more attention so hopefully this video might introduce it to more people looking for a big camera in a small package.
I had shot this video nearly two years ago, but had to shelf it due to other responsibilities taking priority. But It's here now for all to enjoy.
My original plan was to have a trilogy of videos, with this one being the second. l plan on completing this trilogy now that I've found the time to do so.
Follow my Instagram for updates on future videos or if you want to see more photos from the LX5.

I’ve owned one of these since new in 2011. It still looks like new and still takes great images. It’s arguably one of the best cameras I’ve ever owned and still own. It has been my go to, go anywhere camera. I’ve owned many cameras over the years and mainly use Fuji xt cameras, but this lx5 is quite simply fab!

I bought this camera second hand in 2011 as a travel camera. I absolutely loved using it, the accessories include a screw on metal tube that holds filters and a wide angle lens, and a digital viewfinder that fits on the hot shoe. Ive taken some of my favourite photos with this camera, probably because you can just take it with you and never miss that shot! Thanks for your video.

More than 4000€ in equipement, I still prefer to go outside only with the LX5 I bought for 40€ a couple years ago. It is awesome for me. Also sharp af 👀

PanaLeica is a class all of its own and in particular, the LX5 is a beautiful compact camera…and the Elmarit Vario Summicron lens is what attracts people to photography with the Leica heritage. Nice review! 😊

I got this camera about three years ago because it’s compact, has Leica lens, and most importantly (for me) it has the ccd sensor. Great little camera. I got some of my best shots from the lx5.

My recent bouts of GAS have landed me with a Lumix LX7, GF2, GF1, GX1 and TZ90 .... Canon S120, S95, S90 and I have a G16 (from new) .... All brilliant, and used more than my interchangeable systems

I was stupid enough to sell this camera, and it is maybe the best small camera I ever took photographs with, and yes...I am now searching to buy this camera. Life is strange. Nostalgy is kicking in heavily.

Ive had this camera for years and it had been sitting idle for a long time, just took it with me on a vacation to universal.... and I got some fantastic photos. Shot in raw most of the time and fits in a small fanny pack pocket... it was up for the job, small and light, quickly powers up, auto powers off, shoots in all conditions. Thanks for confirming what I suspected... 12 years later it still stands up. Im going to make a point of keeping it out of the drawer for a while.

The Canon s95 is an ultra compact that has the same size sensor and takes phenomenal pictures if you're looking for something with full manual control that slips into your pocket comfortably

I also have the S95, which is a great camera, but........The LX-5 has that ability to be just that little bit better. Mind you the big advantage of the S95 is the tiny size over the LX-5. It truely is a pocketable camera. But If had to choose, I think the LX-5 is the one I prefer mainly due to that lens.

    • @frankartale1026

@@TheOffertonhatter i agree . S95 strictly the best because its tiny. If im gonna have camera the size of your lumix. Ill use my Ricoh griiix. I am starting to love the gr because it made me change how i shoot

I bought this camera 5 years ago at a Goodwill for $15. The pictures look like sharp film shots once processed, and I can’t tell the difference half the time between the pics from this and my Leica X2, at least when swiping by on an iPhone.

I chanced on a bargain on two of these-the black version and the white version-in 2020. For a compact camera, it has such amazing features. I’m only beginning to make use of all its potential.

I chose a small camera, bought at a good price D-Lux 5 (LX5) Photo quality is excellent, I'm surprised. Sometimes you don't see the difference between my Lumix G9. I would like to try another LX7. Oh, if we updated this camera, left the same size and added a little more megapixels and video recording. The perfect camera for me. With AI, the noise is perfectly removed, I tested, then up to 1600 iso working with for me. But I increase iso only in some situations.

  • @SM0_o

Definitely a very nice camera which I still use. It is ergonomically pleasant and quite fun to use. However, comparing it to modern cameras is an exaggeration since it can only hold its ground when in good light conditions and not so much against the sun (as shown in your footage). I find the EVF a must buy, especially to use in sunny weather and it also saves battery (or so it seems to me). Do not quite understand why the EVF has a bad reputation (usually why people say it's expensive), but I really like it and the performance is very good. By the way, base ISO is 80. Cheers.

Nice! I found an LX3 in a drawer a while back, and it’s going to be in a video some time soon. The LX5 is tempting because I already have the evf, which I used with the gf1.

Nice find man. I've heard good things about the LX3 from the research I did for this video! The EVF would pair well with the LX5, would make shooting similar to a DSLR.

Good to see you have some of the blue on your viewer. I recently got this camera and I turned it on and couldn't figure out what it was and after shooting and putting the card in my computer noticed it didn't appear in the photo just the viewer. Which is also slight pain when you view on the camera itself because it shows on those pictures. Also my iso button seems to be pushed in but so far hasn't been issue.

I loved mine, until the rear wheel stopped responding. But the IQ is excellent! Even now I occasionally revisit some of the RAW files and process with the latest software (PS and Topaz) and the files just get better. I also love the fast lens and the very small form factor. I eventually replaced it with my Pentax MX-1 compact camera which is a bit better overall, with retro looks, but it is a tad bigger due to things like tilting screen. But the LX-5 is still a little gem of a camera, and if I can get it working again, I will probably start using it again when I don't want or need to carry my FF DSLR around. Great video BTW.

Great review. Very practical perspective. I just picked up an LX5 as I got caught up in the CCD hype. I also have the Leica D-LUX 6 (LX7). I’m thinking of selling the Leica as I don’t need two compacts sitting around, but I worry I will miss it someday. Which one would you all keep?

Got this about a month ago in an almost perfect condition. Sadly, after getting a shock, there are some black spots that sometimes appear, sometimes fade as I adjust the zoom and focus. Any idea? Is that dust on sensor or lens? Looking for how to fix it..

    • @SM0_o
      @SM0_o 2 года назад +1

Dust on the sensor should not be visible on the photos at f/8 minimum aperture unless they are quite large -(Are the spots always the same in the photos?). If by shock you mean collision, I guess it could be dislocated parts from the lens assembly or debris. The service manual can be found online in case you are feeling adventurous. Good luck.
