I was also there, one of the best films, hats off to S.S. Rajamouli and team, Experiencing all the incredible scenes in theatre was amazing and mind blowing.
The audience was SO excited and not even 25% was Indian. It was a complete mash up of all people from all walks of life, all demographics, all ages, genders, races, colors, everyone was brought together by the power of cinema. In that theater we were all united by our love for what Rajamouli created. For one night we were all INDIA!
I wish that the US would make a movie that moved audiences like this... there is not ONE movie I can think of or have seen that has had audiences DANCING in the aisles and SCREAMING AND SINGING during the movie!!! THIS WAS MAGIC on screen and in theater.

It really is! I'm glad you liked it! It was my first time there too! It was amazing. and over 100 years old. The Old United Artists theater in Downtown Los Angeles.
That was not because they didn't have them. Chairs were there, just not used. This was a choice made my the filmmakers and their team. This was FAR too active of a crowd and the speakers as well were far too engaged to sit down and chat. The theater has chairs available, of course! But also because of the safety for the participants, should anything have happened, they needed to be able to be agile and move quickly. And the chairs could have been used as a weapon. We went through metal detectors coming in. Which is VERY standard at ALL screenings in Hollywood these days, not just at the Ace Theater or for RRR. They had a big security detail on both sides of the stage. This was NOT because of any sign of disrespect. It was a choice to keep them UP and MOVING with the feeling of the crowd. The crowd was up too! :)
I was watching the movie... I did not record the entire movie. And, it would not have been allowed to record the entire movie. Sorry. I did capture the reaction during the party scene.

They have been screening the film all over Los Angeles for Academy Voters and the other guild to help build the momentum for votes. This is the way of the Academy campaigning. You have to be out there and SEEN in theaters. being on TV does not help to gain votes and to win you have to campaign and help earn word of mouth. Let's hope we have a BIG win on Oscar SUNDAY!!!

When it screened at the Chinese Theater a while back, it was the 6th largest screen size (IMAX) in the world, but the audience size was smaller. Hope this helps!
