When I was in high school I saw a doctor due to having trouble falling asleep, depression and anxiety. She asked how long it took for me to fall asleep and when I responded "2-3 hours if I'm lucky". She said that it wasn't THAT long and it was normal. It made me feel so stupid and like I was overreacting. She didn't even acknowledge the depression and anxiety. What happened? Self-harm, insecurity and even deeper depression happened and I didn't understand why I was feeling and reacting this way. She had stated I was over-reacting so I felt so bad and stupid. Fun fact: the term "takotsubo" comes from Japanese and it actually means a trap that is used to catch octopuses. The term is used to describe the effects of a "heartbreak" because a emotionally significant trauma changes the shape of your heart so, that it's a bit wider at the bottom, therefore resembling an actual takotsubo.
Dr. Mike: "If you can't fall asleep after 20 minutes, try something relaxing, like reading." Me: "Yeah, now that's not going to work for me" Reading is the one thing that will keep me up till 6 am. For caffeine addicts, I'd say often it is not the caffeine that is dictating your mood and alertness, but the hydration. I used to consume heavy caffeine in the mornings, but started hydrating instead initially with squash and water. It was never an objective to cut down on energy drinks and coffee, but I did because hydrating in the morning did more for me than caffeine did.
Hydration is definitely important, and caffeine is a diuretic, so obviously not going to help with that. But for some people small, to moderate amounts of caffeine can act as an antidepressant. I have suffered from depression since childhood, and find it helps. Not huge amounts of it-one, sometimes two, rarely three cups of coffee a day. And I avoid it for at least ten hours before bed. Of course, for those consuming huge amounts, it can certainly be a problem. I always have water, and coffee in the morning.
I mean I can say that lack of hydration will lead to a headache and bring down my overall energy, but caffeine does dictate your alertness. I think as a caffeine addict, it does less of an effect, but it’s still blocking those hormones that cause exhaustion.

"The human mouth is dirtier than a toilet seat" Could also be because toilet seats are surprisingly clean. @@Epiphun Yes but it's highly dependent on the downstream effects of your migraine. For some, caffeine is actually a trigger. However, for others, because caffeine as a vasoconstrictor can reduce the dilation of blood vessels, they have pain relief because vasodilation in the nerves in the head is partly responsible for the pain of migraine (see: Excedrin, a common migraine-treatment medication which contains caffeine). Caffeine actually affects certain people differently, like those with ADHD. I'd love to see a video on how certain chemicals affects people with mental issues due to abnormal brain chemistry.
@@cripki7558 stimulants have still a wide range of effects on people with ADHD but the theory is that the symptoms like hyperactivity are a reaction to understimulation. So depending on the actual brain chemistry, some stimulants may be effectively calming you down. For example, in the morning after not enough sleep, a neurotypical will feel slowed down and caffeine will bring alertness and energy from the baseline. Someone with ADHD in the morning will feel exacerbated, unable to focus, and appear hyperactive trying to deal with too much at once instead of focusing on one thing at a time. Caffeine can then increase alertness and focus, which has a calming effect from the baseline

I always have water, and coffee in the morning.
squash hurts my throat though dont know if anyone agrees
I mean I can say that lack of hydration will lead to a headache and bring down my overall energy, but caffeine does dictate your alertness. I think as a caffeine addict, it does less of an effect, but it’s still blocking those hormones that cause exhaustion.

What happens to those with ADHD?
@@cripki7558 I've heard it actually calms them down. Idk tho I'm not a medical professional
