Another reminder that police need the publics help to do their job effectively, which is a lesson for police officers to care about the public trust they create or destroy with their actions. We Own This city on HBO was based on the true story of a corrupt police squad who were stealing drugs and guns from evidence or people during traffic stops, and selling them back on the street. They also were known by the public for lying and abusing, to the extent that no jury in that area trusted the word of the police, based on their experiences

The governments of several foreign countries where most of the scammers are based, need to go after the criminals. Our politicians need to put more pressure on those countries for that to happen, because the authorities in those countries don't seem to care. One way we can convince our politicians to do something about this, is by putting pressure on US-based **companies** who outsource their technical support and other telephone customer service jobs to the same foreign countries. That outsourcing is part of why it is easier for people with certain accents to sound like they are legitimate representatives of certain companies. But until those countries do something about the scammers, our corporations shouldn't be hiring legitimate call centers there either. That's the only way it's going to stop -- when the people living in those countries feel the financial strain of not having American dollars paying their call centers, then they can put pressure on their own law-enforcement agencies and politicians to do something about it. The most the authorities can do here in the United States is go after the local "mules" and drop shipment mailing companies who facilitate sending the victim's cash overseas. That is absolutely something they should do a better job with. But as long as people can do banking online, and on their phones, there's not much authorities can do to stop the electronic transfers of money overseas. And unless somebody notices someone buying gift cards like in the story, that can't be stopped either.
Thanks to the lady who called 911 and to the officer for stopping this. Banks should keep an eye out for elderly people withdrawing cash!! Hopefully she has adult children who are trustworthy to watch her money and avoid this in the future.
The banks do. My friend 71 yrs old, an educated woman, fell for the exact scam and lost $23,500. She called me four hours after it happened. My questions did the caller have an accent? Yes. Did the bank teller caution you? Yes. Did any red flags go off driving $23,500 in cash from a bank to a gas station? It seemed so real. She said got a call her bank account was compromised. The bank needed her to remove the money and deposit it into a bitcoin machine. She talked to two Indian males who convinced her the tellers were in on her account be compromised. (I asked her if the tellers questioned her). She said they asked her if anyone asked her to remove the money, but she was told to say no because the teller was in on it. The teller asked her what the money was for and she was told to say she was buying a used car, so she did. The teller tried to warn her of scams, but she she thought the teller was in on it. Got her money, drove to a gas station and deposited $23,500. Then the callers told her all her accounts were compromised and told her she needed to remove all her money. This time go to another branch. She did, she went to another branch and the teller could see the previous transaction. Same routine questions and same answers, the teller had to convince her she was being scammed. The police were notified. I would think they would seize the machine and force the parties involved to prove ownership of the cash but that is not how it works. The police would NOT take a report and referred her to the FBI. The FBI said fill out a document online and we will get back to you. It’s been a year and she has never heard back from the FBI.
They need to have power of attorney for her and control over her money otherwise this will happen again and maybe by the same people as they already know she's vulnerable.

I love it when citizens step up to protect others, like this lady who stepped up and called the police to rescue her out of an unjust situation. Kudos for taking notice, stepping up, and protecting that lady from an evil scammer!
I don't even answer any calls from unknown numbers. Unfortunately, most older folks I know tend to answer everything that comes thru their cellphone. To me, if the call is important, they will leave a voice message. Most callers never do.

I use to play with them money can not be transfered without a password nor can open another account without a password so I played with them till the end and say no money in my bank account they hang up quick
I ask how they got my number and then scream take my number out of your system...they hang up fast then because they KNOW that they are supposed to stop calling when you say that so they try to "not hear" you say that. Our government needs to have a little chat with the country where these scammers originate from. They are not hard to find, even with the pitiful attempt to show a local number when they call you.
They say her bank account has been compromised and she needs to withdrawal all of her money and put it into the machine for safekeeping until they can secure her account
The woman who noticed and call the police is the real hero here. That lady was clearly in distress and was being taken advantage of. Good on the woman who went with her gut and took action.
Yeah, quite absurd. Just an utter lack of logic. It could be she's simply so old she's lost that part of her mind, maybe she never had it. But truly appalling how gullible some people are. Not near as appalling as the losers on the other end of the phone though.

Now it's just a strain on her family with a miserable quality of life filled with drugs and endless nurses coming and going... for what? I know inside she hates it, she was super independent up until 89-90 years old. Still went on cross country trips with her sister, could keep up with me at Disney even. It's a shame she's been put in this situation.
It's sad how stubborn old people will get when they are getting scammed. People are telling you its a scam, and they're like nope gotta get the gift cards or in this case feed the machine
There was another incident just like this where one of the scam hacking RUclipsrs (those that revervse engineer into the scammer's own systems) was watching this sort of transaction from the scammer's POV. They tried their damnest to contact the woman to stop her, to contact the business she was at (they did manage to get an employee to try and disuade her but she wasn't having any of it.) and even was in contact with the local area's dispatch, but they said it was a her issue and nobody was ever dispatched out to stop her sending the scammers money.
Banks also aren't going to tell you that you're in danger. If they felt someone was ACTUALLY in danger they would go to law enforcement because that's not their job.

I wish I was on the news...I own a business and these scams happen almost every day....elderly people trying to buy gift cards to pay for something....now these scammers tell them to call me back or I'll call you in 10 minutes or say I'm going to put you on hold but really they didn't they can still hear them...when anyone who gets the gift cards at my store I basically ask them what's it for I apologize for asking this but it's for your safety
It's a shame that there are so many mentally incompetent people with lots of money who don't have anyone to care enough about them to stop them from being scammed.
It's not that they lack it, they just aren't mentally 100% "here." A lot of old people have issues with thinking clearly in general and so when they hear someone say "hi we are with ____ company, you owe us $30,000" they just think "oh well I guess i did something wrong somehow, I forget stuff so much" because they're at that age where stuff just slips their minds and they forget.
We cannot remove call centers from there so that won't work, but the national block on calls from them is a good idea. Except then people won't be able to call customer service for some very large companies that are based here in the US but outsource the work to those countries so that probably wouldn't happen either. Money makes the world go round, yaknow.
What a good woman that cashier is. She really stepped up and helped that lady. I hope the community recognizes her for what she did. I'm very glad the officer was able to respond so quickly and put an end to the fraud before it was complete. This is how a community is supposed to work. Good job to everyone involved.
Good on them. It blows my mind how gullible some people are. Poor lady but come on now. Your bank will never call you and have you do some roundabout nonsense like that.
BOTH the woman who noticed ,and the police officer who helped stop the scam..are total complete absolute HEROES.
Yes they are...thank goodness they stepped up. Please remember that the elderly are PRIME targets for scams and we all need to help them!

These scammers are very good at convincing people they are the bank and they are very persistent
A lot of older folks have made sure they have great credit and obey the law... so when these scumbags call and threaten them with legal action by the FBI and other tactics, the folks feel like they have to do anything they can. Don't blame the victims... blame the f**kheads that prey on the vulnerability of old people.
There’s millions of them. That’s why these scams are still thriving.
So true
Talk to your senior family and educate them about these scams. Make sure they go through you before having to send money to anyone, fake banks and whoever.
Thank God these two Angels were there
I love it when citizens step up to protect others, like this lady who stepped up and called the police to rescue her out of an unjust situation. Kudos for taking notice, stepping up, and protecting that lady from an evil scammer!
This kind of thing happened to my 92-year-old uncle. They basically hypnotized him over the phone.
The boldness level of the scammer is scary, but gives insight to why uber driver got shot by scammed victim deceived by scammer.
I don't even answer any calls from unknown numbers. Unfortunately, most older folks I know tend to answer everything that comes thru their cellphone. To me, if the call is important, they will leave a voice message. Most callers never do.
scammers via voip can use any number they choose. so, yea, sadly it can appear that Chase is calling you. Most don't realize that so are caught off guard. (I think due to swattings that more people are aware now)
I like the ones that clame to be third party debt collectors company names I never heard of
Yes my dad answered all the time he has a stroke so he doesn’t think and act the same. He got scammed a few times one Facebook marketplace because the seller ask to send the money up front and ghosted my dad. I had to take my dads wallet always because he’s always on his phone since he’s disabled.
@@darwinjina Yeah, I've heard of this. It's called "spoofing". It's unbelievable how sophisticated scammers are getting nowadays.
@@samuels4777 Sorry to hear that. I feel like the older generation has a different mindset not just with technology, but with people in general. They are too trusting sometimes. They are not aware that there are very malicious actors out there who will scam them for every penny and not feel any remorse doing so.
Finally people are paying attention to what is going on with the elderly. Good job!
I love hearing stories about how one human being is looking out for the best interest of other human beings that they don't know! This is how the world is supposed to work. My hat is tipped to the woman who took notice as well as the police officer that helped this elderly woman. We need to hear more stories like this
I’m so thankful for that woman and the officer!!! God bless them and God protect our elders. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
That woman is no hero.....No, she's much more. She's an angel sent from God to protect that elderly woman.
Cops doing the job the way it should be done , serve and protect . Hats off to the officer
No a lady saved her. The cop helped.
Can’t we agree that it was teamwork?
Dont give all the credit to the cop in the headline.
I’m giving all the credit to the cop. Blinded by hate. The lady told 911 she couldn’t get her to stop
@@lescocat1501 Why was the cop there? If you were brighter than a gnat, you would know that if the lady hadn't called the police, there would have been no police officer there to help her. I'm so tired of gnats posing as people in the US.
@@stevenmitchell1 she had already tried to stop the woman and explained that it was a scam, but she refused to listen and yelled back. It took the cop to actually stop the woman. Interesting the scammer even used an uber to transport the lady from her retirement home and was facetiming her. I believe that the officer and the store worker are being rewarded in the next city meeting.
Thank u so much officer and thank u to the attendant for being alert.
If these huge corporations would stop selling our phone numbers this scam would be cut in more then half
Crazy how elderly people believe this
East India people you know it’s a scam! Glad he got caught.
unlike the financial institutions here in the US, right? they scam us legally.
Thank goodness for Mindy Jordan's alertness to what was going on & for calling 911! She shows a good example for others too! And Officer Stewart is an absolute hero!!
These scammers need to tracked down and dealt with. It would only take a small number to make a difference.
there are a few youtube channels that hunt for those scammer call centers. it is big business
cut ties with Idia simple
Yep
Most of them are in India and thay pay the cops there to look the other way and if try to fight back thay will swat you I seen it a lot of times
Watch scammer payback page! He's proof, little is being done because the cops in the other country, India, are in on it
Why is it that the government allows this to happen for decades?
Allows? What are they alloeing? The old lady was dumb. Why would chase ask you to send them bitcoin?
@@kyled2329 She's not "dumb," she was taken advantage of. GTFO with that garbage, heartless fool

Those scammers from India and Nigeria they are very slicks good scammers!
they make you want to vacation there every year don't they
Not really, they just know there’s tons of dummies over here.
Please leave “Nigeria” out of this. There’s a TV series called “AMERICAN GREED” that describes Americans aptly. CNBC. Thousands of episodes describing the typical American flashy, “wealthy” private jet-flying common thieves. Google “American Greed”.
Americans are literally stealing each others homes from squatting to stealing property titles.
Remove the logs out of your own very eyes. You’ll do and say anything to avert attention from your culture of embezzlement, fraud, corruption, bribery…I mean “lobbying”.😅
You think that’s bad, my aunt (age 66) gave a so called romantic scammer more than $160,000! We warned her that this man is a scammer and she was in denial, and claims that he’s interested in her. She still hasn’t met this man. So, we can’t do nothing to stop her; just let her throw it all away and hopefully, not her house eventually.
Sad to see gullible senior citizens not being taken cared for and watched out for by their family....
Probably for good reason
Good woman calling cops outstanding.... Like the cops attitude too, good work all around 👍
This is the reason for me hanging up my phone when I hear a foreign accent caller. Specifically indian or African accents.
These sick nasty bastards prey on the elderly, it's such a shame they actually get away with it. Thank you for calling 911 lady, you're a true hero....
When scammers call me I’ll scream or say what’s your favorite scary movie and they hang up 😂😂😂
I use to play with them money can not be transfered without a password nor can open another account without a password so I played with them till the end and say no money in my bank account they hang up quick
I do the same.
Nah ill waste their time, want to curse sure let's curse, want to say something let's do it, I have all the time lmao
Cop did a Great job stopping that lady from being robbed by them low lifes.
What did they tell her to convince her to hand over her money? I hope she doesn't fall for this mess again!
It's called a refund scam en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overpayment_scam
Probably told her she had money that wasn't hers and would be in trouble if she didn't return it.
There are youtube videos showing just how they do this
They say her bank account has been compromised and she needs to withdrawal all of her money and put it into the machine for safekeeping until they can secure her account
God bless our officers.
The woman saved her, the cop responded to a service call based on the woman’s call. She is the hero.
Woman called the police to say she couldn’t stop the lady…but keep reaching honey
Mindy Jordan was the wise woman that noticed in the first place. Both are heroes to the community.
It sucks getting old in this world
The woman who noticed and call the police is the real hero here. That lady was clearly in distress and was being taken advantage of. Good on the woman who went with her gut and took action.
I wonder what scams I'll fall for 50 yrs from now
Two heroes! That woman is SO LUCKY! A big heartfelt thanks she was stopped in time! 💕💕💕💕
Something tells me she's going to fall for the scam again. I feel that she doesn't quite understand it's a scam.
Yeah, quite absurd. Just an utter lack of logic. It could be she's simply so old she's lost that part of her mind, maybe she never had it. But truly appalling how gullible some people are. Not near as appalling as the losers on the other end of the phone though.
Not absurd at all. This is how casinos make their money.
That's why more than a few elderly people need to be placed under conservatorship.
Absolutely!
@@patmcbride9853 And their licenses taken away. More end of life hospice care available. Modern medicine does do harm actually, in my opinion, in extending the life of some of these people past reason. I mean, my great granny can't see, can't walk, can't do anything, and they bring her back when she had a heart attack. I get it, save a life if you can, but she's 94 freaking years old.
Wow the scammer new it was the police and he was still upset about stopping the money
Only people who didn't come from RUclips are worthy of liking this *Strong widget* 🏆 what a journey it’s been! this £200,000 recovery has been an inspiration to us all, congrats!!! ❤️
You would be surprised how many people fall for these scams
The lady in the store did a great job and the right thing. What she also could have done was unplugged the machine.
Interesting idea. Maybe they need to put a 24 hour hold on bitcoin transactions or something?
the store does not own the machine
@@scruf153 no one implied that it did
That officer should get recognized for this. So many cops look the other way or decide it's not their problem.
This is the kind of policing that should be encouraged. Kind, helpful, and knowledgeable.
I think highly of workers who look out for fellow good people. She is the hero here.
And a cop who gave a sh!t. Rare combination.

It's unfortunate that too many old people lack basic Common Sense these days.
They are 'old' and from a generation that was trustworthy
It's not that they lack it, they just aren't mentally 100% "here." A lot of old people have issues with thinking clearly in general and so when they hear someone say "hi we are with ____ company, you owe us $30,000" they just think "oh well I guess i did something wrong somehow, I forget stuff so much" because they're at that age where stuff just slips their minds and they forget.
@@YuYuYuna_not being mentally here= lacking sense. They may have made better decisions in the past but unfortunately not now.
The saddest part of this story is realizing the lady had no one to discuss the "error" with before taking action.
I’m all for a national block on any calls from India/pak and we should remove all call centers from there
We cannot remove call centers from there so that won't work, but the national block on calls from them is a good idea. Except then people won't be able to call customer service for some very large companies that are based here in the US but outsource the work to those countries so that probably wouldn't happen either. Money makes the world go round, yaknow.
Heroes don’t always wear capes
I know of a retired judge that this happened to. No elderly individuals are immune. Keep your eyes and ears open for them.
What a good woman that cashier is. She really stepped up and helped that lady. I hope the community recognizes her for what she did. I'm very glad the officer was able to respond so quickly and put an end to the fraud before it was complete. This is how a community is supposed to work. Good job to everyone involved.
It is all because of overseas call centers🤔 Partly the big corporations that are responsible for these outsourcing are to blame🤞🤣
bring back local phone operators every city/town use to have them and buss lines
The old lady thought she was going to get in trouble for not following through. These ppl are evil and get into their heads with lies. 😢
Good on them. It blows my mind how gullible some people are. Poor lady but come on now. Your bank will never call you and have you do some roundabout nonsense like that.
There are more than one scam out there, an actual smart guy from Florida almost fell for a missed jury duty scam
There too many dumb people out there and the scammers know it.
Thank God for these angels for saving the elderly woman’s life.
there are scams and scammers everywhere you turn...be careful!!
people still say I am crazy for believing trust no one fear everyone
Scambaiters do their best to stop these dirtbags, but too often the cops don't take them seriously. This officer and the woman who saw it are heroes!
This is why we shouldn't do business with india....nor should we allow our seniors to be put in this type of situations.
Omg, we get that all that time at Walmart, mostly wanting them to buy gift cards. I tell them outright they are getting scammed, and refuse the sale.
