    Nice bikes. I had the 85 pro performer and then got the pro freestlye tour in 87, Mine was light blue with whit mags. Took off the bars and put Haro knee savers on it and took off the crank set and had the Red Line flight cranks on it.

    • @theshamanarchist5441
      @theshamanarchist5441 5 месяцев назад

      I've always had a BMX and never stopped riding since 1980. To be honest, (love them as I do- childhood nostalgia) the 80's bikes were mostly still just kids toys until the mid 90's, engineering wise. But the GT's and Haro's were light years ahead of all of the other 80's brands. These 2 brands never bailed on us and lead the way after the 'craze days' died away and that's why I'll always revere them over all of the other brands from back then.

    I had a daglo pink PERFORMER, cool.

    • @atrains
      @atrains  3 года назад

      @Leroy Nic: I believe you had a Pro Performer. Dayglo pink was not offered on the entry level Performer for 1987-1989. The colors for the Performer were; Bubble gum pink (not neon), white, Maui blue, chrome, lavender, black and magenta.
      The Pro Performer (double bend downtube) was available in; White, Black, chrome, lavender, Maui blue and Dayglo Pink (neon).
      The Pro Freestyle Tour was available in; Bubble gum pink, Dayglo pink, chrome, lavender, Maui blue, black and white.
      Team model was the same as the Pro Freestyle tour color wise except we have never seen a Team Model in bubble gum pink. Not from the factory at least.
      Rumor has it there were green PFT bikes for very early 1987 but there is no proof of this.

      @@leroybrown74 we are discussing this topic now on the BMXMuseum. The boxes only showed PINK on the exterior for the factory to check off the color. Some of boxes show the word “soft” after the PINK checkoff mark. Check out the thread if you are interested.

    I just picked up a 1987 pro freestyle tour this week on craigslist. How can I tell if it is a team model or not (the decal isn’t there)? Would the serial number tell me? Any help anyone can provide would be much appreciated! Thank you!

    • @retroweirdo5818
      @retroweirdo5818 4 года назад +3

      Congrats on the bike! The Pro Performer Team model has the three piece Power Series crank with sealed bearings and the Pro Performer had a one piece crank. The team model gave you the choice between mag or superlace spoked rims and the pro model only came only with mag rims. The team model came with the two piece sprocket and the pro model came with the GT cheese grater sprocket. The team model came with GT frame and fork standers standard and the pro model did not. Of course this is all assuming that what you picked up is factory standard, but I am sure the serial numbers would tell you exactly what model you have. Look them up on BMX Museum. Congrats son the find! I have two '87 Performers and my dream bike is the '87 Team Model in dayglo pink.

    • @atrains
      @atrains  4 года назад +4

      Just to add to Justin’s comment. 1987 GT PFT had no Team Model sticker. It had one piece cranks and caged ball bearings. They would come with mags OGK. The brakes would be Dia Compe 883 front and Dia Compe 990 rear. Chain would be KMC made for GT and have the bubble font GT logo. Tires would be Shinko LP1. Brake levers would be Dia Compe Tech 7. Sometimes these would come with Odyssey RX-3.
      On the team model for 1987 you automatically got the forged 7050 aluminum alloy GT Power Series Cranks and sealed bottom bracket bearings. The pedals would be SR-474. You could get mags but most of the team models were equipped with UKAI rims and GT Superlace hubs (hollow axles and locking collars). The team model decal to set it apart. These were the top of the line GT’s BITD.
      1988 had some changes. Team models would come with Dia Compe 883 front brakes but Axiom 767 rear u brakes. There was a split between the tires and team models in 88 would end up with solid white LP2 new versions of the freestyle tires. 88 also had new mags but I’ve never seen a team model ‘88 with mags.
      I hope this helps.

    • @atrains
      @atrains  4 года назад +2

      Serial numbers do not dictate models. If your serial number is all number sans no letters then it is USA made (1987-1989). Letters in the serial mean production in the orient. Find me on the BMXMuseum and I’ll further assist you. Atrains89

    GT & Haro had one of the biggest rivalry in sales , once the late 80s early 90s came into view , GT had the worst sales in its history thanks to Haro . GT ranked #2 when it came to team performance in freestyle contests against Team Haro . Back when I rode in the late 80s early 90s my friends the owned GT,s thought that the company was bound to go under so they switched to Bully & left GT in the past , I,ll almost bet they wished they now had their GT,s from back in the day , now there worth a small Fortune . I rode Haro,s from 1987 up to 1992 . I loved GT,s color combination on their bikes ,but they tended to be a little stiff of a bike for my liking , they were to rigid of a bike for my style of riding .

    It is so sad NO ONE makes bikes like this anymore. I had GT bikes. Rode them hard - and they never failed me. I wish I could buy my kid the same caliber of bike today -- no one even comes close. I really wish I had kept my bikes!!! IF anyone has any suggestions on bikes for all around riding - let me know -- my 7 yr old is doing frame stands and handbar hop overs wheelies and bunny hops ... on his 16in ... he needs a bigger bike!!
    Is there a bike out there that is NOT $800 - 1000 that I can get him on that is not a total POS!?

      @Noah Morphew That’s crazy pricing. These bikes meant something to each one of us. Not just a means of transportation but it meant freedom. In the sense to explore and check out new places. It meant learning new tricks and having with friends. So there is sentimental value there but $12k is ludicrous. That’s 6 months rent or mortgage for some people. It’s paying off medical expenses or other costs.
