    Tom is an under recognized genius. It is amazing to create all of that music from a lead sheet and still keep the soul of "Patient Is The Night". I truly hope he recovers one day.

    • @grapesw8
      @grapesw8 6 лет назад +113

      While stopped at the end of the line of cars on an off-ramp on August 6 2016, Tom's car was struck at full speed from behind by a pickup truck. His car smashed between the truck and the cars ahead of him. He suffered severe head trauma, broken ribs and a punctured lung. since then he has recovered somewhat, he is able to move his arms, although his right side is still mostly unresponsive. He recently improved in speech and can form some words.
      Toms brother keeps up with updates at www.caringbridge.org/visit/tombrier/journal, if you want more info.
      also a more in depth report from keeper1st, a friend of his, ruclips.net/video/zlEyOdb9DzA/видео.html
      All of us hope he recovers.

      I know it's hard to imagine just jumping into something new, but you pick up chord structures and little phrases from practicing styles of music over time. @@thepastarat Not negative, realistic. People everywhere are setting unrealistic expectations for his health as if his accident wasn't nearly as terrible as it was. This isn't me trying to be negative. Someone has to let these people know that he'll never play piano properly again otherwise we get comments like these 6 years later saying things like "please get better soon" and "I hope he will recover and play again" when it's futile. Inform yourself.

    • @thepastarat

      @@Calship66 Just because it's realistic doesn't mean it's not negative lmao. There are better ways of saying the same thing.
      Words are powerful, and so is the way you present them. Your tone can influence meaning, so even if you're not trying to be negative, negative words and phrasing will change the way people interpret your words.
      Even unintentional, slightly passive aggressive/negative language can diminish your point, because it gives people a false impression of your intentions.
      Also, why does "someone have to let these people know he'll never play piano properly again"? Will that help somehow? All it does is make people sad. Just because something is futile doesn't make it bad or something to be stopped. I hardly think someone leaving a nice and hopeful comment could possibly be considered a bad thing. There's nothing wrong with a little hope, even if it might be false. That's part of what makes us human.

      @@thepastarat I see your point. I should've presented myself as more compassionate. My excuse is that I dislike the aforementioned comments that are supposedly so invested in Tom and his health, but are completely ignorant to his circumstances. These comments are all over the place despite the fact that the accident aftermath was pretty well documented and it happened over 6 years ago. If I were to sugarcoat it, people would most likely misinterpret me worse than if I'm blunt and it's important to inform people so that we don't have to look at comments like the one this discussion started with.
