- Just past his 32nd birthday and the great Ed Moses wins his last major title....just! A mere 0,02 seconds covered all the medals;the unlucky hurdlers on the day were Danny Harris and Harald Schmid ,who were both given the same time of 47.48,as opposed to Moses's 47.46.One of the greatest hurdle races ever.
Moses’ ten-year win streak is one of the greatest sports accomplishments in history. He was amazing to watch.
I’ll never forget this. What a champion Ed Moses was!
I’m not a yank but I was devastated for him when he lost in Seoul the following year.
This quality of sports casting for Track & Field is long gone...Ed Moses is wilting!!!! Goosebumps
Beautiful commentary by Ron Pickering, wonderfully capturing the drama of the moment. And we don't have moments like that in athletics these days.
Ronnie Pickering?!?! Do you know who he is?!?!
Great respect for Harald Schmid who equalled his personal best here and came SO close to beating the all-time-greatest 400m hurdler.
@Callen Sincere You should be reported to the police for doing that. Shame on you! Also for spamming people.
i feel a bit sorry for schmid who could have won a ton if he hadnt moses ahead of him. hed have deserved to win a major titel in my books
All time greatest = Karsten Warholm
@@steffan20 it's very hard to say who...Warholm, Moses or F. Sanchez
@@steffan20He’s the fastest but they’ll always be someone who comes along and is faster. The dominance and consistency Moses showed for over 10 years and 107 unbeaten races makes him the greatest of all time in my eyes.
I remember this as one of the best races EVER.
One of the classic races ever. Great stuff.
47.48 sec
And I think I'm 4th
Edwin Moses has always intrigued me. A lot of African Americans don't know him. It's weird.
My vote for athlete of the decade was plainly Edwin Moses. While not only, a great athlete, but also a human being who will never be forgotten by not only being physically gifted but giving back to humanity in ways only those of us who look for other positive attributes he possesses can appreciate.
What a human being. Thank you Mr. moses..the GOAT
The magnificent Moses like Marvin Hagler in boxing didn't fit the profile of the type of African-Americans being promoted as 'icons' and given wide media exposure in the 1980s. It's degenerated further over the last 40 years with the type of 'celebrities' being promoted as African-American role models today.
Incredible race by some all-time greats. I was there for this one. Gara incredibile tra dei veri legendi. C'ero anch'io .
Moses. Easily the greatest 400H runner of all time. He doesnt own the WR, but dominates the top twenty list, and man did he win Olympic, World and American Champion countless times. Could have been great at 800m if he chose.
ColYUSAF06 What are you talking about. Ed Moses broke the WR 4 times.
TRUE.
800 m?
@@alansamuel2454 YOUR to young to REMEMBER...moses was going to attack seb Coe,s 800m WORLD RECORD in 1982/83... it never happened. Edwin could run 400m in 44 and had FANTASTIC ENDURANCE....that the 400m hurdles was called the man killer for DAMN good reason running 800m was MUCH easier than running over hurdles...Moses would have DEFINITELY run a very good time
@@simonedwards5564 Ohh. Never heard of it itself. Yep 400 m hurdles is easily one of the if not the most painful sprint discipline.
Now THIS is the definition of a race.
The greatest 400 hurdler ever.
3 great athletes....by the way...moses and schmid are still close friends today
Wow,that's cool. I have MUCH RESPECT FOR MR. MOSES. HE WAS AN INCREDIBLE 400 M HURDLER. I BET HIS OPEN 400 TIME WAS INCREDIBLE AS WELL.
Wgaf
They are not.
@@juliuspons818 they are
@@Dimpflbruder Harald Schmid - a great athlet - has refused to congratulate Moses to his birthday and he has more than one time insinuated that Moses used Anabolika.
Monumentalstes historischtes und spannendstes Leichtathletik Rennen aller Zeiten !
One of the greatest races ever.
This race and Rudisha's 2012 Olympic 800 are still at the top of my list. Moses ran "catch me if you can" race, while Rudisha said in the pre-race press conference that there was no viable path to victory for anyone else (and then proved it emphatically the next day). Different approaches to equally spectacular ends!
The Announce was correct. Moses, Harris, Schmid!!! I watched that final as it happened, and it was true nail biter. The Following Year, Moses would end up with Bronze at the 1988 Summer Olympic Games, and the legend retired shortly after those Olympics
STILL THE BEST BY FAR....BAR NONE.
I will never forget watching this live on TV. We were losing our minds me and all my track buddies at my apartment. The manager came by and asked if everything was okay.
モーゼス・ハリス・シュミッドの大接戦は忘れられないレースでしたね🤗
Wow, what a final....amazing
The 400m hurdles has always produced photo finishes. This one, Buford and Bailey, Ledovskaya and Flintoff King, Hemmings and that one, Sally Gunnel and Sandra Farmer, Mohammed and that one, Usha and Cojocaru.
This was the world championships, so Moses couldn't demand that Harold Schmid be put in an outside lane.
?
Moses was an awesome hurdler
Moses was a fantastic athlete and great to watch.
Age was catching up with Moses by 1987 as proven at the following summers Olympics in Seoul.
Still he is the greatest 400m hurdler yet although the Norweigan may have something to say about this in the next olympic games
1st Greatest ever. 3rd Second greatest ever.
those guys are incredible!!
This was an incredible race. I was there.
Of course u were
@@anilpandey6923 Abitavo in Italia. Yep, as part of the US delegation as an interpreter. Pull out your old copy of T&F News and you will see a picture of me in the opening ceremony along with the athletes and coaches.
Without doubt the greatest 400m hurdler of all time but age catches up with everyone even Edwin Moses and in Seoul the unthinkable happened...... Defeat
My memory has faded. I didn't think anyone ever pushed Moses.
He got bronze at the following years Olympics so the signs were there.
This was Moses' best race at major championships.
It was his fastest race, even though he was faltering a bit towards the end. If he hadn't he might have run a sub-47.
it's sept 1st 2017..moses won this title 30yrs ago today.
Peter fatfan spooky i should watch it today then. Dont tell me the race went of at 5 pm that WOULD be bizarre.
DAMN! Why didn't they include the official results in this video?
Ed Moses (USA) - 47.46 seconds
Danny Harris (USA) - 47.48
Harald Schmid (West Germany) - 47.48
Sven Nylander (SWE) - 48.37
Amadou Dia Ba (SEN) - 48.37
Henry Amike (NGR) - 48.63
Kriss Akabusi (GBR) - 48.74
José Alonso (ESP) - 49.46
5 m longer and Schmid would have won
Aber ganz genau. 👍
This was amazing
Harald Schmid.
I was there for this great race. Closest mass (three or more) finish, however, might be the '84 U.S. FOT women's 100m hurdles.
hmmm.hard to see schmidt having the same time as harris there..looked like 47.48 moses, 47.49 harris and 47.51 schmidt.
As you can see, Schmidt did the fault of looking twice to Moses, instead of concentrate on his line. A fault many do. That cost 0,02 sec.
Does Mr. Moses live in Dayton still?
He lives in Atlanta
Way to not show the official results
Finished at 4.02.095987654
I am ten and I can run 14:61 seconds comment how fast you can run
Good for you. Now time to grow up kid.
Ed Moses tested positive three times, he's no hero nor is he a great
Really? Source?
You are a half-wit. I'm surprised you can even switch your pc on.
Lies, Lies and more Lies. Ed Moses never tested positive for any substance.
Keep trying to taint a great champion, it is not working!
I too, in my small way, I was accused of doping by my rival racers.
I ran to 3'15 at km, those who accused me he did not like making sacrifices, knew only say "go stronger than me because it makes use of doping."
With the experience I realized that this was a phrase from losers to justify their failures.
Donkey!
