  • One of our subscribers gifted us a 2003 Honda 919, a 919cc, liquid cooled, fuel injected, 110 horsepower sport bike! We think it'll make the PERFECT replacement for the tired DOHC carbureted CB750 engine on our cross kart. Pher parked this bike a few years ago after it stopped running right, and he was kind enough to donate it to us for a future project. In today's episode, we see if we can get the free motorcycle running and riding right!

    I own a 06' 919, and I love it to death. Used to own a 93' CB750 Nighthawk too.
    Also, while the 919 is a second generation of the CB900F series, its real lineage is the CBR919RR Fireblade. The engine is just a re-tuned 99' SC33 powerplant updated with fuel injection.
    It is a great street fighter. Bike has everything you need, nothing you don't. No riding assists, no ABS, no anti-wheelie, no traction control. Just an engine, wheels, tank, and some lights. Old school analog instrument cluster. It was a modern take (mid 2000's) on the UJM's that dominated the 70's.

    That's an older power commander 3 usb. I have the same one on my 2001 dyno tuned VFR800. It's a piggyback ECU that allows you to adjust the stock map based on RPM and TPS. It would make it very easy for you to dyno tune the crosskart. That black wire you saw to the battery is to ground the power commander.
    You can hook up a battery to the fuel pump plug under the tank to save yourself some time draining the fuel.
    You really scored an awesome bike. I love motorcycles like this. They are very cheap to buy with reliable EFI and none of the electronic assists that are on newer bikes. The crosskart is going to rip and be extremely reliable.

    Power commander is a piggyback engine controller used to regain lost horsepower from putting on an exhaust or other bolt ons. I highly recommend you get the interface cable and software to tune the engine. Those bikes run alpha-n strategy (load calculated via throttle position) therefore any restrictions of flow you eliminate will throw off the tune and cause lost horsepower and in some cases cause drivability issues. It's a great tool to have.

  • @frankrizzo5057
    @frankrizzo5057 3 года назад

    Power commander replaces stock ECU when an aftermarket air filter and/or pipe. Like changing jets in a carb but with way more options. The one you have is a Dynojet which has been the go to for a lot of bikes over the last 10-15 years. Has a low, medium and high setting. The newer ones can plug into a laptop and you can download mapping. Not sure about the one you have. Love the channels, thank you for helping me during this long end of 20 and new year.

    a Power commander is a device that allows you to tune fuel and timing. If you use the after market exhaust on the bike, and trim the pipes equal length you can use the power commander to adjust fueling with a air/fuel meter to make some good power, and if you dyno it you can work the timing for more power

    Honestly, with the tires, I recommend getting racing quad rear tyres, because those are so readily available. Probably 18” to 22” so it’s still got the agility

    I had a 2003 CB 919. That was an awesome bike. I miss the sounds it made. Listening to one run brought back a lot of good memories. I subbed to see how this project turns out.

    That power Comander is a fuel air management system. For instance if you put a full exhaust with a k&n filter u put that bike on the dyno and you can tune it for the performance parts you have put in

    For your reference: These bikes tend to be a bit cold blooded with the power commander. It helps to hold the starter button a bit after it has started.

  • @gixxernut8021
    @gixxernut8021 3 года назад

    That will be awesome on the cross cart !! And with the power commander you can tune the motor for open exhaust and hi flow intake !! It interrupts the signal from the ecu for your injectors so you can add or subtract fuel from your fuel table you can actually turbo it with that power commander

    You would be amazed how easy you can turn these into a quad. The Kawasaki tecate swing arm bolts right up to the bike frame. The front easily gets adapted to the bike frame also.

    drain fuel tank, remove fuel pump, clean tank, clean filter sock on pump, reassemble......also.... use RED coolant.. if you can help it , dont mess with air intake : keep airbox and any intake horns as its a tuned intake

    Check with PO regarding valve adjustment. If it's over 16k between adjustments it may show symptoms
    that look like poor carburation. Also the air cleaner is probably plugged-up. Looking forward to your progress.

    A Power Commander is a a fuel control module. It intercepts the signal from the ecu to the injectors and allows you to manipulate the fuel to the engine so you can get the AFR, as close to your desired number. Normally around 13 - 13.5:1.

    I can tell you had fun in the chevy. I do the same thing with my bronco. I think the cross cart needs some long travel suspension live grind hard plumbing’s MODDESSY. Then she’d be even cooler. That way you could strengthen the axles that failed once before

    Y'all got it easy with that fuel injection... the abandoned '06 VTX1300C I came across has a rusted tank and is carbureted. I got it running enough, but it probably needs a carb rebuild or a new carb altogether... and a new tank would be nice but is cost prohibitive. Maybe one day soon I'll actually be able to ride it.
