The best video on javelin throwing I have seen after watching what I thought was all of them. No nonsense straight forward, simpler but descriptive instruction on how to throw from the grip to the recovery. Thankyou.
Awesome video. Simple and high effective coaching technique and explanation. I have always been poor thrower but look forward to trying your technique before I coach school children. Thank you.
Just wanted you to know. All my Jav throwers are assigned this video to watch. I've been coaching throws for over 20 years. You follow standard techniques, best practises, and present it in a comfortable and easy to understand way. When we start practise, they know and understand what I'm trying to work with them on. It makes great productive workouts. Great job. How about one on full runups:)
Hi Jeff and thank you for your kind words. I will be putting together and next level javelin video in April that will include approach run. All the best to your throwers this season.
Thanks for the video. As a beginner coach, it is very useful. My daughter is loving learning to throw javelin, it may surpass her love of discus! I’ve got her watching all your throw videos now!
this is so useful! definitely the best one I've seen! thanks man, I've been stressing for athletics day tmrw because I've signed up for javelin but have never actually done it😃 this is very helpful! thanks
Very interesting as a physical education lecturer I also learned the basic technique.... now my students are preparing well for the up coming inter collegiate competition Tqqqq once again
Sir , you are a hero! 💪 Although I came here as an animation student to make a spear throwing sequence, by the end I was thinking why not to try it one day
Hey coach can you please do another video doing the full run and crossovers. I don’t have a javelin coach at my school. I’ve just been watching videos and reading about it but this is the best video I’ve found for javelin. I’m a senior and my pr is 131 ft and I want to throw farther
Very very good video. Its very important like you called it to put the feet on the last to step to 'two o' clock'. Otherwise you will hurt your hip. My right foot almost points 90 degrees away form the left. But: 1. your throwing arm isnt fully extended 2. its improtant to watch forward in the last three or five impulse steps. Whats your personal best in javelin?
Great points. This video is just for beginners. As you know, there are so many components to throwing a javelin. Such as throwing action, 3-phase approach run, the finer points of the impulse phase etc.. May need to do a second level video.
I would also add that if you advance to a longer approach... start as a sprinter feet totally forward, then as you more to the cross over phase, feet move to 1-2 o'clock to continue forward speed into impulse phase. Hope this helps.
I enjoyed the tutor. I always feel a severe short lasting pain on my Lower rib (right) each time I releases the javelin with power. What can be the curse
You said the finish hand position and the American hand position, well I have 2 questions. #1 whats the difference between the two positions, is one more for the experienced thrower or what? #2 I have found a 3rd hand position and I was wondering if you would recommend me to use it more or start using the American hand position. The 3rd one I have found is having the stitching in-between your middle finger and your index finger. It feels like the javelin is more balanced that way. Your thought?
The "fork" position. No one at the highest level is using this grip. Would suggest the American grip or Finish Grip. I am a big fan of the American grip... just easier position in hand.
@@ThrowsCoach Thank you! I have tried the American grip for awhile and I have seen much better results and got a new PR. The Finish position is really hard for me to do. One other question, moments before the release of the javelin, in order to keep it from landing flat on the ground, what would you say to throw it in the way where the head punctures the ground first. I just need help trying to give instructions to the younger athletes on my team since we dont have a javelin coach.
@@anthonyhale1614 Hi Anthony, in most cases it is not the grip that causes, but the wrist bends too much or the angle of release. Having said that, it is easier to see it. If you have video from the side and if using a phone, turn it profile and send it or the link along... I will have a look. -Steve-
So I'm really confused by your grip explaination. As far as I know there are 3 standard grips. Two of the grips are what you showed, "The Finnish" and "The American" grip. However I thought you needed your thumb on the grip as well? As indicated here: www.just-fly-sports.com/how-to-grip-a-javelin-3-ways-to-maximize-potential/ Thirdly for younger throwerst/beginners "the claw grip" is also a commonly used grip technique where you put the javelin between your middle and index finger and claw around the grip.
Thanks for your comment. The "claw grip' is so old... no top level thrower in the world uses this grip. Would suggest introducing javelin use the two best grips used by the best throwers in the world. Good comment regarding thumb... this is a personal preference ... try just the finger (pointing or middle finger) much easier to control throwing action and release. Hope this helps.
Peace be upon you, I am from Iraq, my sport is a sport, and God will throw my arm. I will reach 50 meters, and God, I will run seventy, 70 meters, but I will be with Mako, and I will be tied to the club and I am 23 years old, and God can play the club in any country.

Hey coach. This was excellent. I usually coach distance but am coaching everything this year. This will be a great introduction for the kids. Thanks
Agree that this is best video I’ve seen (after viewing many) for beginner javelin throwers like me. Well done and thanks.
