Oisin's mother would have a heart attack if she knew about these people.
This is the second time he's been and he's had an even better-I mean worse... time... hehe
I think you underestimate Oisin's mother!
There might be a reason she is so fond of French culture...
@@teolinek maybe she was the romantic date XD
Who knows who's over at her house *while Oisín is (again) away abroad?
Agreed. But knowing that, I can't imagine he would mind too much having to wait on that airline strike before coming home again. LOL
The least realistic part of this video is that the exchange parents are actually willing to speak English! 😂
They're usually willing to. It's just that their english is so bad it's better to try to understand their french than decrypt their english x)
@@bdletoast09 Well they don't have to know English or the language of the student they are hosting. He/she is supposed to learn theirs. So their bad English is more than enough. I did not expect my Irish family to speak Italian.
They might be willing to, but they won't like it so much that you will be able to feel it in the atmosphere. So, yeah, if you're for a long time you better learn.
@@gabsie7224
I was actually referring to the tendency I witnessed within francophone people in general to dislike the idea of speaking anything else than their native tongue. I am fluent in 3 European languages and have a basic understanding of 2 further languages and still I have yet to meet a native French speaker that is willing to speak anything else than French with me, not even people in the French part of Switzerland, even though I speak two of their national languages, as well as English.
@@gabsie7224 That's a fair point. On the other hand, when I was doing language study in Spain and was staying with a host family, they were hosting another student at the same time from France. My host mom was visibly annoyed because the majority of the time the only way my roommate would communicate with us would be to speak French into her phone and have it give us the Google translation. Of course, that by no means is a representation of all French people everywhere; it was just my personal experience.
While in France as a tourist, not a student, there were several people that were willing to speak to me in English after first hearing me try my best to struggle along in badly broken French. The end result seemed to matter less to them than the amount of effort I proved I was willing to put in.
As a Frenchman, I confirm this is 100% how we do things in France and that Grandpa was very eloquent.
What did he say? ^^
Please do elaborate on that eloquent speech, I am truely shocked I did not quite catch a single word of it despite knowing bit of french.
It is a slangish french?
@@twentyroses I think he said
"are you having fun up until now in France?"
then utter gibberrish ^-^
then "tell me! I asked a question, you could reply! You told me this boy spoke French!! [...] more gibberrish"
the he tells him that he's Irish
"oh! Irish!! It's wonderful!"
The moment he tell he's Irish and not American or British, the grandpa immediately chill down and try to speak English for him. Classic.
@@xshayahyawzi3666 yes, it's slangish. We have some thing called "Verlan". It will literally eat you inside out just by looking at it
Poor Oisin, I see his attempts to escape his mother are growing more and more desperate. How many heart attacks would she have if she knew what he was getting up to? 😂
Not as many as Oisinn if he keeps living like this
Causing her Heart attacks would also be a effective way to escape her.

@@foilarmsandhog everything is fine. He had wine to survive.. :)
Oisin needs to come to New Zealand.
"the party begins in 10 minutes"
"So we will leave in an hour and a half"
*now I begin to understand why germans didn't exactly love France*
In France we have this implicit rule called the "Quart d'heure de politesse" ( fifteen minutes of politeness ) : When you are invited to someone apartment you have to be at least 15 min late ( that's often 30 minutes ) in order to be polite. This leave the time for the host to be prepared if he or she has to face an unexpected delay. If you arrive on time you will certainly find the host still showering. When you get used to it just tell your guest to come 30 minutes before the time you actually want them to come in France
@@adrienmh3094 that's some useful info, I'll keep that in mind
@@adrienmh3094 interesting. in germany we have this in university. lectures usually start a quarter of an hour later then written on the paper, and it's just called "akademische viertelstunde". it is so normal that professors usually write s.t. (sine tempora - "without time") if they actually want to start on the full hour.
@@rudelwolf1591 I reckon when we're invited to someone's home for dinner, we also have that Quart d'heure de politesse. Meeting outside is different, however.
Alright this is funny to me... In the north of Belgium you've got those 15 minutes to be on time. Any later and you better let them know... It's very impolite! 😅😂
The 6-hour lunch part was so accurate 😂 When I was younger, we went to visit some family of my dad's in France.
We planned to arrive there by lunch-time, have something to eat and then take a walk to explore the town and the surrounding nature.
We never arrived at the exploration part. The food just kept coming. Cheeses, grapes, quails, bread rolls, wine, wine and wine... By the time lunch was over, it was nearly time for dinner 😂🤣
We were so stuffed when we went back home but it was a good time
The only things I miss from France are the baguettes and cheese. Definitely not the 6 hours meals with the entire family...
"roooh le trou de la sécu, non mais quand même"
"et Charles Pasqua alors!"
"Vous avez vu le diner de cons? C'est génial!"
"Bon d'accord mais juste une goutte!"
"garde un peu de place, il y a une tarte à la rhubarbe après"
as a kid, you're just bored to death ^-^ As an adult, I eat in approximatively 6 minutes... I think that counts as PTSD =D
@@SLRModShop ptsd after rhubarb tart. That's serious.
How are French people skinny then?
@@jasonhaven7170 We're slightly skinnier ON AVERAGE than the UK population. This very video is a good example of how warped people's vision of France is.
Believe it or not, we have showers and we use them. Someone with a beret is either 80 years old or seen as an eccentric. Nudity is as much of a taboo as everywhere else. Kids do not drink wine, we taste it like twice a year but we get so little that it wouldn't get a hamster dizzy (picture that one in your head, that's cute).
All that to say, we have our fair share of fat people. Some of the clichés are 100% true, but many things are exaggerated artefacts of a bygone era.
French people not bathing is literally a 300 years old trope at this point. I guess it goes back to pre-revolution era when people were using perfumes, thinking that not smelling something meant problem solved =)
French being revolutionaries couldn't be further from the truth. It was true 300 years ago but now, the (very funny) joke of the white flag being the French flag is WAY more on point.
Look at the yellow vest movement, they paralized their own country for a year and a half and got... nothing out of it...
All that to say, don't believe everything you hear about France except when it comes to bread and cheese, they are the best.
@J H Massive amounts of cycling/walking I'd say, though there are still some fat people. You gotta get your energy for rioting, striking and general civil unrest somehow haha
Brilliant. The “je suis Irlandais” always worked for me when I lived in Lyon and was struggling getting help with directions. A magic phrase 😂

As a French, I must say. Those clichés are very funny... And somehow true.
The only one I really don't agree with is the breakfast one. We certainly have lighter breakfast than irish people, but not so light.
The strike one is the most accurate of them all.
if the sexual scenes are true than france needs more islam to make it more civilized place
En anglais y'a besoin d'un -man, -woman, ou même 'person', sinon ça se lit 'comme un (truc) français'.
Missing some confiture
This is such an over the top parody (with some very real moments too - like the 6 hour lunch and the excessive kissing) that I just laughed the whole way through! Cheers from France!
Thanks!
We Chileans greet with one kiss on the right cheek. Spaniards greet with two kisses, righ cheek first and then left cheek. Italians and French give two kisses, first left and then right. I've been in situations with people form all these places and greeting is the most confusing thing.
@@a2falcone it actually depends on the part of france you're in. Most places (in the north and center of france) kiss 2 times, but in the south they tend to kiss 4 times, or sometime even 3 times (which is confusing af cause everyone else is used to kisses in pair).
I've even heard of the mythical 5 kisses greeting, but I've never witnessed it myself.
True, plus even with the 2 kisses, you don't begin the same side depending on where you are in France 😆 Always confusing with my cousins who live on north-west when I was born in the south-east!

Don't worry J
The host family said to themselves before Oisín‘s arrival that they need to live up to every cliché about France in existence.
They did a good job and Oisín adapted very well.
We can all be proud of them.
As someone with autism and debilitating social anxiety, Oisín's awkwardness during the kissing part is more of a mood than I'd like to admit.
Since COVID a lot of people stopped doing "la bise" and I find it better.
I was slightly afraid they were going to start... French kissing.

The best part is Oisin getting quite comfortable with the French ways in the end :)))
Loved that bit!
As an American living in France I especially enjoy the wallpaper with the random picture on the wall. It seems that wallpaper is everywhere and a different pattern in every room. Like they put it on and never redecorated. But it’s lovely 🥰
Exciting to see another country will be added to the list of places you’ve toured 😊
Yeah absolutely! FAH taking over the globe! What's next, Antarctica? 😏
Oh my days, this brings back so many memories of my French exchange! I remember my first meal - a massive pile of beetroot for a starter - I'd only ever eaten it once and hadn't liked it so I had to stuff it down! Then, touring the garden, I said to my new friend "Oh! You have so many pet rabbits! How lovely!" and she responded, with this very sweet smile, "Oh! We eat them!". 😅😬😆
For me it has been one of your funniest gags. 😂
You are so great and love your scetches
I definitely like it! So funny from start to finish! I think I might have missed something because I was laughing XD Loud and angry French was too hilarious.🤣🤣
OISÍN ROBERT FLANAGAN GET THAT CIGARETTE OUT YOUR MOUTH THIS INSTANT!
You're to be polite now Oisín, have whatever they put down in front of you. 🙃
I'd say what a poor boy, like how confusing. But he seems to be coping just fine 😂
@@SamFAHntha he's developing some bad coping habits! 😄
@@Emma_W_ I can't (and won't) argue with that! He'll be on a first name basis with the hospitals!
Hands down best depiction of the french I've ever seen
One of your best in a while!
"Loud and angry French" great subtitles
The grampa is the most accurate representation of old French people
grumpa.
I'm thrilled and so looking forward to the show in Paris !! 😁
The last scene was the best, where he smoking, drinking and reading. What a combination!
The exchange of kisses and the glass of wine are simply hilarious!!!🤣
I don't agree with the croissant scene: the French cuisine is great and the desserts creamy and delicious!🤗♥️
It's missing:
- The baguette under the armpit🥖
- The French who understand absolutely nothing of what you say, simply because your pronunciation is not 100% perfect🤦♂️
- Oh là là ! The impatient French complaining. Zut ! 😲
- The French perfume💨👨🚀
- French niche cinema💤
- I'd make parents kind of impoverished snobs💍
- Bureaucracy (even if it's no longer funny since fast all country are very bureaucratic).
P.S. You guys are great!♥️ The German exchange was hilarious!🤣🤣🤣
You don't have dessert for breakfast in France. He was lucky not to get just a bowl of coffee.
Hilarious as always! Thank you for a great start into an otherwise drab day.
Enjoy the rest of it!! Thank the heavens they didn't get ready for the French beaches in this one 😂
@@SamFAHntha Do you have any Getting Past Immigration suggestions for FAH ?
@@adityarao9793 Hahahaha maaaybe I do... And maaaybe I've spent the last couple years begging for it relentlessly. And maybe it just so happens to be the New Zealand one...
Could be hearsay. Who knows!
You're finally coming to Paris!! Best news of the day!!😊🎉 Can't wait for the tickets to be on sale! And thank you so much for making life lighter. (You definitely helped me keep my sanity during lockdown.) Merci beaucoup !😉
C'est super! Vous êtes incroyables. Merci beaucoup pour ça😂
Merci Maria
What a great sketch, 😆had me laughing so loud that I woke up my husband sleeping in the next room. Now I’m in for some explanation 😅
haha, well done!
Hey I'm going to be truthful with you all, as a French man in England, I almost feel as lost as him!
As an Englishman I am intrigued. I’ve not spend much time in France so I don’t know much about the culture over there. So what are the culture shocks you have had being here?
The way he just gives in at the end xD
Hehehe, the [Louder French] was so accurate. I'm French and my S/O is Polish, and I've heard some older folks speak very clearly and politely, but extremely loudly at her 😂
And the only thing you forgot about the croissant for breakfast is to plunge it in the hot coffee 😅
Oisín looked very happy after..... greeting the two parents 😂 I wonder what this means 🧐 INCREDIBLE VIDEO LADS!❤😂
I mean what's the point of visiting France if not to have a bisexual awakening?
@@EmmaLiza correct 👌
Arms can you make another Hard Lads sketch. I was watching the one with Clisare the other day and couldn't stop laughing!
Hard lads and John and Tim pleeeaaasssseeee!
Yes, please!
3:05 I love the idea of a sketch based on the city that you’re found going to. Interesting.
The empire strikes back, and Oisin is Hans Solo! Haha, great sketch bravo.
